What kind of washing machine do you have? Do you want?
I’ve always had a top loader. It is my preference. Even though I am short, I have no problems getting the clothes out of the drum.

Same. I’m short too, and I have a pair of long (for BBQ, I guess) kitchen tongs for the occasional time I need help reaching something stuck at the bottom.

Besides reach, can anybody tell me the advantage(s) of a front-loading washer, if any?

I have always had top loaders and love them ... I'm also short and use a small Rubbermaid stepstool to reach in and get my stuff because the drum is very deep ... works like a charm!

Top loader with agitator. So very glad I went back to an agitator. Clothes are so much cleaner. And I can still fit queen bedding with no issues.

I have a top loader and I'm happy with it. Always had top loaders and then we got a front loader. I hated it so now I'm back to a top loader and I'm happy again. I can't even tell you exactly why I hated it. I just did. With the pedestals it was very tall and looked huge in my laundry room. I just didn't like it at all.

Besides reach, can anybody tell me the advantage(s) of a front-loading washer, if any? One thing I’ve heard is that they spin faster, so your clothes get cleaner. We haven’t gone with a front loader because of the stories we hear of the rubber gasket in the door getting moldy and smelly. You have to clean it, and it requires more maintenance than a top loader. We even asked the sales person about that when we bought our current machine. But, I know everyone’s experience is different. Oh, and front loaders use less water.

I’m short. I was tired of leaning over the side to dig stuff out. I never really wanted a front loader, but I will have one from now on.

I am very happy with my Speed Queen top loader! Recommended by the peas, and I just trusted them. I did not even do the regular research that I normally do.I did buy them about 10 years ago, though.

Top loader here, have always had one, and don't want a front loader. I've heard the stories about mold and odor and just don't want to mess with that. We also went to a top loader with no agitator and I LOVE it. Someone in this thread said that the agitator gets your clothes so much cleaner. But how dirty are your clothes getting? Our clothes don't really get *dirty* so much as sweaty. They're very much un-sweaty when they come out of the washer. lol.

I have had a front loader for years. I believe it’s pretty difficult to find top loaders in the UK. For one thing, they don’t fit under a worktop, and the majority of houses here don’t have a designated laundry room. Front loaders also use far less electricity and water so are more economical and more environmentally friendly.

Our first machine forty four years ago was a top load Maytag. Second was a front load lg machine. New front load machine comes tomorrow. Top load is suggested to be harder on clothing. It has been suggested that we can do smaller loads with a front load machine. A front load machine is also supposed to use less water.

Had a top loader for years, when it died we replaced it with a front loader. I don’t think the clothes got as clean with the front loader, plus we always had to leave all the doors open to dry out when not in use to keep it from getting stinky (and it still got stinky). The filter was a pain to clean, and more than once it didn’t seal all the way when I put it back in so the washer leaked all over the floor. When it died my only requirement for the replacement was that it was NOT another front loader.
I have a top loader without the agitator now and it works great. Holds a lot including king sized bedding. I think the water savings with the front loader was negligible because any time I had a large load or anything extra dirty I would have to use the water plus setting anyway. I think the newer top loaders now are equally water saving because mine can sense the weight of the load and add water as necessary, so smaller loads automatically don’t use as much.

Besides reach, can anybody tell me the advantage(s) of a front-loading washer, if any? They can stack They can sit side by side with a counter on top

I have a front loader and I hate bending over to load and transfer. I know I could get a lifter for each to raise them up, but I never had a problem with top loaders and would rather go back to that type.

Front loader, and glad of that, for the most part. It did allow us to stack the machines, which DH likes and I do not. He likes the extra space, but I feel like we're not using the extra space well, and the stacked machines make the room look cramped and take away my spot to pretreat items, since we don't have a counter top or table in the room.

Always had a top loader and won't change.
My mom and sister both have had tons of issues with their front loaders. Enough so that I won't even consider it. And my space is small anyways, so a top loader is better.

Besides reach, can anybody tell me the advantage(s) of a front-loading washer, if any? I feel like my clothes get cleaner, less wear and tear and when I stacked mine, they gave me room in my laundry room to hang clothes. Now they are side by side and I can have a great long (6 foot) top on them that I use a mini office/folding space.

I would have a really hard time ever going back to a top loader. I like folding my clothes right on top.
I’ve had two washers, both front-loaders, in my 25 year marriage. I’ve never had any issues or any kind of smell of mold.

I answered that I have a front loader and I want to go back to a top loader. But this house actually has a top loader too - the previous owners left the older top-loading set in the basement storage/utility room so I really have both types LOL. My old house had a top loader that I really loved - it was a large capacity machine with no agitator. The drum was so deep I had to do the same as lucyg and use a pair of BBQ tongs to get stuff out of the bottom of the washer. It worked great though! My washer that's in the upstairs laundry room in the new house is a newer front loader that has a venting system to help cut down on mold & musty odor. No issues so far.

A top loader. It's the only type I've ever had, and i don't want a front loader because of the bad experiences I've heard about them.

I have a front loader that is about 18 years old (Maytag). It has worked great, no bad experiences. As it is getting older, it is starting to perhaps not spin the clothes quite as dry as it used to. I had this issue with my previous top loader machine. When I have to replace it, I will probably look at both but I have no reason not to do another front loader.
My aunt was in a wheelchair in her later years and regretted not getting a front loader the last time she bought her top loader.

I love my top loader! I can adjust my water levels for the different loads instead of sprinkling the whole load with 2 qts of water and saying it's clean. I can tea stain and dye fabric in it and do a second rinse too. I tried a front loader but it stuck out too far and it traveled during the spin cycle and it would make it so you couldn't get from the garage inside the house. It went back to the store within 2 weeks!
