My sister is a painter and paper hanger and they had a whole house full of paneling in pretty much every room when they bought it. They tried pulling it off in one room but discovered it was all put up with construction adhesive and there was no way they were getting that smooth. What she ended up doing was skim coating the paneling and then hung liner paper, then either wallpapered or painted over that depending on what they wanted for that particular room. That sounds like a nightmare! Fortunately our paneling was not glued. Instead it was individual tongue and groove boards that were all installed individually. Behind them were the 2x4's of the house. This was in every single room of our house, other than the front bathroom. Our house was the builder's personal home, built in 1958, and he apparently built it to last all of eternity. We discovered during remodeling (knocked out a few walls) that all the 2x4's were fir - not pine, as are the eaves of the house. DH really wanted to keep the paneling but the damages would require new custom made boards as you just don't run down to Home Depot for this stuff! When the contractor told him how much less expensive the sheetrock would be, he decided that he didn't love the paneling that much! We've kept a few spots of the paneling in the front of the house but it's all painted a lovely white now.

Well, there you! I no longer have to do anything to change the walls in my house! Looking at that pin on Pinterest makes feel good about the choices I made 20 + years ago!

I’m not that into them- occasionally one is well done and I like that, but usually I see ones that stand out in not a good way. I do like a wallpaper accent wall or more of an architectural feature wall or ceiling. Not typically a fan of just painted accent wall.

I have one in the bedroom. I get tons of compliments on it.

This was done to our entire dining room, so not exactly accent, but I have seen people add the board and batten to just a wall. Our house is cream and this dining room originally had wallpaper on it, so it didn't even have any texture on it. Dining Room by Nancy Tim, on Flickr

We currently have a great room that is a combination of our kitchen, dining room, and family room. Once we finish the basement, the family room will move down there so I had my husband put up an accent wallpaper wall with that in mind. It is a very large floral pattern that I love but would have been way too much on all four walls and would also make the room, which is not that big, look smaller and darker. I'm not normally a fan of accent walls but I thought this was the best way to add some interest to the room without taking anything away from it.

It really depends on the room. My DD did an accent wall in her family room and it really made the room look much smaller.
I personally wouldn’t do it, but it’s only paint, if you don’t like it or get tired of it, you can just paint over it.
