I do purchasing for the business where I work. Small, under 10 people, so I buy a pack from Samās at a time. Yesterday, it sold out before I could actually buy anything. Since one of the co-workers was going to WM anyway, she picked up a few packs since the store was low.
After work, I went and bought twice what I normally buy. So, Four 12 packs vs the normal 2. I will share with Dad if he didnāt buy any.
I worked really hard to be comfortable with 2 to 3 twelve roll packs. Grew up in a dooms day cult. They didnāt preach preparation, just constant dooms day š©. When COVID hit, I was down to the time to buy a couple of packs. It was difficult to find and expensive to buy sub-par paper. Had no desire to repeat the experience.
This evening itās trying to find food for puppy and kitten. The adult cats have enough for a month and a half.

I hope the panic buyers enjoy their TP and paper towels.
Tentative agreement reached and strike is called off.

Wow, I had no idea people were hoarding toilet paper right now. I just went to the store and I did need TP. The shelves weren't empty, but they were bare. Only one pack of the kind I like to get. I also saw more than one person with several of the jumbo packages in their cart. I wanted to ask them why. But I didn't. LOL I always buy those giant packs because thatās usually the size I have to buy to get the best deal. Sometimes I hate getting that size because the quadruple rolls are HUGE and they donāt fit on all of the holders in my house.

My problem is with the suppliers. What they have in stock was purchased/manufactured at a much lower price but they are bumping the prices way up.. And that is what happened with Covid and in many cases they never dropped the prices back again.

I already kind of hoard paper towels, because I like a certain brand, and it is frequently out of stock. I did pick up extra tissues, because I go through them unbelievably fast, and I only like Puffs. I got 2 packs of 4 each. Thatās it though.

I guess the panic buying was real because Jimmy Kimmel mentioned the toilet paper shortage on his show. He joked about how Americans love to hoard toilet paper. That is the one thing Americans were most worried about during the dock strike.

I had no idea this was a thing. Bought TP and paper towels yesterday because there was none left in the house, which I usually never let get low like that. š¬š¤·āāļø

I had to swap to getting them through Amazon because our stores never seem to have them! Oh and 5% (eye roll) discount for subscribing.

So...at the risk of getting run out of here...I totally bought extra TP, laundry detergent, and dishwasher detergent during my Costco trip earlier this week. I wasn't panicking but I did get extra. I am less worried about running out and more worried about prices increasing and I usually make sure I have enough to get through the winter months because it makes sense economically for me. If I buy it now, I don't have to worry about budgeting it for Nov-Feb which are expensive months for our family with the holidays and how birthdays land. No one had carts full or flatbeds full of TP but almost every cart had one package.

No one had carts full or flatbeds full of TP but almost every cart had one package. This is the time of year where I buy 1 to a few extra items of things we use a lot of as well. No shame in that. I shop sales right now to bulk up my pantry and freezer because sometimes the weather makes me not want to drive as we can get heavy rain here and I just don't want to be out in it as well as being prepared for cold/flu/Covid season as far as comfort foods and meds as well as TP due to 3 of the 4 of us having GI conditions that flare up worse with colds/illness. We easily go through 1 Costco 30 pk a month. It is what it is. So I always have 2 on hand. But 3+ packs? That's not cool.

So we did a quick Costco run at lunch time today. It was planned before the strike. We went to a business Costco. They only had the Kirkland brand of TP, no space at all for the Charmin. And the amount of toilet paper did look a bit low. You could see the pallet in places. But hardly anyone had TP in their carts. We usually buy the Charmin, but we didn't need any, and they didn't have any anyways.

There is a difference between preparing and stocking up and panic buying.
People who prepare and stock up know what their family uses, how quickly they go through it, and what items they can stock up on and they will be used.
Panic shoppers grab stuff they won't ever use it it will take forever to use (like who needs 2 20 pound rice bags??). I did see a few carts with 2 big bags of rice. I go through a 2 pound bag in 1 to 1.5 months.

We are just this week, finally about to the bottom of the bag, and we're a family of six...

Are people panic buying TP etc in your area. Yes. Like, cartfulls. I'm well stocked already, but that's because I have a large family and buy routinely to fit our needs, plus an extra bit just in case.

That is the one thing Americans were most worried about during the dock strike. I can totally relate. Iām just going to say that I recently had a multiple day hotel stay and the toilet paper there was HORRIBLE. Absolutely horrible! It was like one ply waxed paper. Iāve had bad toilet paper before but this was literally the worst, to the point where I was seriously wishing I would have packed a couple rolls of the good stuff. And this was at a really nice, NOT cheap resort! I have never in my life been so happy to get home to my good, name brand toilet paper.

We tend to eat more rice because itās easier on my kids stomachs and we tend to eat a lot of Asian style meals. The kids also often take Asian style meals for lunch.

Rice and beans are major staples for many cultures.
Could be purchasing for other family members. 20# bags are heavy for older people.

Costco today was out of their $19.99 TP so I had to get the āpremiumā for $21.99. I was annoyed.
