panic buying

My Costco has low stock of their brand TP and paper toweling as well as Charmin when I went in to grab a few food items. Target, Stater Bros, and Albertson's are all pretty stocked. I don't shop WM so I can't say about them.

Also my Costco has a huge thing is Kleenex. It's allergy and cold/flu season so they always have a lot out.

I am in CA btw.

Oh and when I got my 2 40 packs of Arrowhead water for ds for school, lots of that brand and others.

They are. Funny thing is, Costco tp is made in the US, and they were still buying them out.

I bought tp yesterday at Target, but that’s only because with all of the construction works that have gone through our house in the last three weeks. They used all we left behind (heehee), so we were out. Just bought the same package we always do, and only one of them.

Yeah, they're doing it here, too. Hoarders drive me nuts. Buy what you need and leave something for others. So stupid and selfish.

Not me, but my neighbor came home with at least 3 12 roll packages of TP.
OH, am I in trouble? I am down to 8 rolls from a package of 20!

I was told by a friend that Sam's still had some. But they don't have it online. I need some at home and buy it for our office. So it's not hoarding just a need. I also need dog food. I hope they are not hoarding. I find out Friday when I drive up.

The US produces plenty of its own alcohol.

Yes. DH and I prefer wines from outside the US so we would potentially suffer, but the much larger selection of domestic beer, wine, and liquor at the store tells me that most of the US will be just fine. Tequila, Mezcal, and Mexican beers can just come overland as they usually do.

I saw a few posts on Facebook but I haven’t been in any stores to check. I just looked online at Sam’s Club and all the toilet paper is out of stock. HEB online still has some but most of the name brands are out of stock.

Could some of the hoarding people are seeing be due to the tropical storms that are out in the Atlantic right now? I think there are like 4 of them. People stocking up in anticipation?

If they were in that area. I’m in Southern California so no prep for hurricanes here. If so I would have already stocked up. Most people aren’t in those areas nor are they sending them to the area they are just hoarding.

I bought a bale of TP last week bc I wasn’t sure how much I had in the basement storage area. I like to have it on hand before winter and in the event we get spin-off bad weather from a hurricane.

Turns out I had plenty, so we are really well-stocked now. I knew we were good on paper towels and tissues so I didn’t pick up any of those items.

I do need to go sort my basement canned goods and donate anything we aren’t going to use to the food pantry. I have some canned soups and broth that will expire before the end of the year so I’ll donate those, as well as some peanut butter. I’m pretty sure it’s time to donate some canned milk as well.

Then I’ll decide if we need to restock and if so I’ll rotate everything so the older items are in front. I do this a couple of times a year so we are udd add sally not in danger of running out of anything. I do know we need salsa and Rotel—we go through so much of that when making eggs for breakfast or burrito bowls for dinner. DH informed me we are down to 2 jars of salsa, and he was shocked how much we had used.

I am rarely in a position where I am panic-buying anything because I can’t break those habits my mother instilled when I was a kid. We always had a full pantry at the beginning of fall after all of the summer and fall canning was done. We lived on a mountain where we could be stuck for a few weeks if the snow was bad enough. Dad could get to work because he was good at driving in the snow, but Mom was terrified of slick roads and would not venture out. If we ran out of milk, she used canned milk for cooking. She baked most of our bread, so that was never an issue. She was just always ready to feed the family.

I do need to pick up some bottled water for the winter storm supplies, though. We have a bunch of 2-liter bottles of water that I keep in the garage for flushing toilets and washing hands. I don’t have fresh drinking water, though, either the big jugs or the individual bottles.

No Costco here, but our Sam’s is wiped out.

Yes. In my local Costco group (which includes DC, Northern Virginia, and southern Maryland) many people have been posting photos of the empty TP, paper towel, and water shelves.
