It is possible that this one is suffering from Jurassic Park Syndrome (in figuring if I could get Thursday through Saturdays challenges in one card, I may not have asked if I SHOULD), but here is my rainbow color scheme card using a cluster of leftover cutaparts, one cut into fractions with a die:  |

jjpeapea , your Easter card is bright and beautiful! angel97701 , your birthday card is very fun, and I’m happy that you finally got the hotpress to work. I hope they do refund your money on the defective plate. The shimmery colors on the balloons are perfect. justjac , I love the silhouette card, but your puzzle piece card is really cute, and I think I will have to use that idea at some point.

Sorry I’m so behind on thanking you all for joining in! justjac I thought of the sun and the sky when I set the first challenge but didn’t think of it being more of a sunrise/sunset sky - that’s a lovely ink blend. And of course I love a good puzzle pun  Shakti I laughed at your Jurassic Park reference! But in this case, unless it drove you crazy trying to fit all those challenges into one, I think you should’ve. It’s made for a fun cheerful birthday card. scrapnnana no need to apologize- I’m still catching up with lots of challenges too. Love your rainbows, sunshine and happiness design. A bright yellow raincoat is just the cheeriest thing to me (even though I hated wearing one as a kid!) Thanks all I’ll be back with a new color scheme for us to play with tonight. |

Challenge for 10/17: black and white + one color. Your one other color doesn't have to be purely that one color, it can be shades of one color, or it can be a few colors but with one dominating. (Hopefully you all know that the goal is to be inspired by this as a starting point - if you think it counts, it counts!) But anyway, if you can, try to make the card read as black and white and red, or blue, or orange...  B & W + one color by jo.blackford, on Flickr My sample cards were very heavily influenced by Kristie Marcotte. I don't think they're exact copies because I can't follow instructions to save myself, and I know she added sentiments, but just want to give her credit. I had no idea how to use this compass paper until I saw her cards! The compass part is hidden behind the tiger BTW your card could be a bold black and white sentiment (or zebra or newspaper) on a colored background if you like! That would be a quick and easy card.

I had another idea, and did this one:  I want to make multiples of this one for my church family, but am thinking it might be too plain? Any suggestions on what else I could do? I did try using a darker blue to simulate the night sky, but the card was way too dark. |

Both card designs are pretty, MDscrapaholic, just as they are. If you wanted to dress up the church group one, would sequins or clear enamel dots give you the look you want? |

I did try using a darker blue to simulate the night sky, but the card was way too dark. I think the card is lovely and not at all too plain, especially if you're making a lot. But if you think it needs more, maybe a little bit of highlighting on the star (or stars) with a gold pen or dots, or maybe a little halo of yellow/gold ink from the Star of Bethlehem? You could also consider trying a little gold glow of ink blending above the baby Jesus in the manger. The other idea I had would be to vignette the night sky a little, adding a darker area just to the edges. Thanks for playing along with black and white in two totally different ways! And grammadee too - your peeking pengwing is adorable! (YT: Benedict Cumberbatch can't say penguins) |

I probably would shrink the whole thing a bit so that the design panel would fit on a 4.25 x 5.0 white card base - then I'd apply some crystal dots on stars - then apply a chalk rub of pale yellow around the baby

Love that blue! Which inks did you use, Shakti ? Thanks! I started with C&9 Blueberry and Memento Paris Dusk. It was looking way too pale, so I added some Delicata Sapphire (which is what got blotchy on me). |

joblackford, I love your tiger. He really stands out against the black and white. grammadee, your cute penguin peeking out from behind the brick is adorable. MDscrapaholic, the green is eye catching, but I really love your Nativity card. It’s soft and appealing. The only thing I would suggest is to add some gold shimmer (like gold Wink of Stella or similar product) for the Bethlehem star, but it’s lovely just as it is. Shakti, that is a beautiful blue, and the white starts really stand out against the blue shading.

Since we were encouraged to look for options in our left-overs . . . I found some shaped flowers in my "flotsam" boxes that were white, and a few die cuts from a very old Spellbinders die set.
Added two newly die cut sections of black and white to make the layers show up better. The top white layer was cut from the matching die set before I stamped a Unity Stamp Co. sentiment in Delicata Shimmer Silver and heat embossed with Silver Iridescent EP. Translucent glitter was added to the shaped and layered flowers. After assembly I also added Nuvo Crystal Drops in Gloss black to the center of the flowers.
I close friend of 3 decades recently lost her 90-year-old mom, this will be perfect!

Great way to meet a black and white challenge. As for the nativity card, I actuall LOVE how simple it is - I think the pretty sky then the black and white figures calls attention to the serenity and depth of the special message. scrapnnana She is going to love it. The challenge for Oct 24 is to use a triadic color scheme. A couple of suggested triads are the classic Halloween green, orange, and violet/purple, or the primaries - red, blue, and yellow, or shades of pink, aqua, and yellow. Hopefully that will accommodate whatever kinds of cards you’re making. Here’s a little guide from Catherine Pooler www.catherinepooler.com/2021/02/24/party-color-wheel-101-triad-color-combinations/And one from Cathy Zielske www.cathyzielske.com/2022/02/more-color-wheel-combos-for-cards-lets-do-another-triadic-scheme/You don’t have to use “pure” bright colors, especially because the triadic color schemes can be very strong - you might want to use more muted shades. I would also suggest that you go strong on one or two colors and use the third as an accent. (BTW If some other colors sneak in it’s OK - a lot of patterned papers will bring in a couple more accent colors). Add black and white or other neutrals to balance things out.
