I just logged into BofA and checked our accounts. All looks good.
But I have often wondered what would happen if everyone's all of a sudden said they had no funds???
I just took a screen shot of the amounts in our accounts... but ?

I still get monthly statements for all financial accounts by mail. Redundant, I know. But it makes me feel a bit more secure. I could print them at home, but for some reason I don’t. I keep them for a year, then shred. I was raised by a CPA, what can I say? 🤷🏼♀️

I worked in bank operations for 15 years and understand the big push to go with just having your statements available online, but I still prefer to have a copy mailed. I know myself well enough to know that I would never remember to go in and print a statement each month. I also shred all but the year end statement at the end of the year. I keep at least a few years of those (probably many more than I need) but they do not take up that much room.

I print them out and file them. We have multiple businesses so we have to keep that stuff for tax purposes.

There is absolutely no way I could prove how much I have in my accounts... i know roughly what is in each but would never be able to prove it because I don't get a physical statement....
I dont know what I would have to do

not only do I print my monthly statements, but I reconcile them and print a reconciliation report.
My laptop died a couple of years ago, and I was able to do a written register until the replacement arrived.

Most banks and other pertenient sites have back up tape at off site compaines. I beleive the company I worked for, every nice their records were back up to a place in Maryland.

Oh, I guarantee that systems can be restored. However (I have worked in an operations capacity for both banking and healthcare) as someone who has been on the restore side, system migration side, company merger/conversion side of things nothing is ever 100% and often there are issues. While probably never needed, IMO, it is never imprudent to have your own documentation that can be used as a reference point.

We do have printed copies of all bank/investment accounts, too.
I remember in the lead up to 2000 my DB being incredibly paranoid that we (the general public) wouldn't be able to prove account balances if banks had a "glitch" and lost all information. I pointed out to him, in our case, we would be the winners because our mortgage was more than savings at that point in our lives. I'm still confident that the banks have more to lose and are prepared to make sure they don't.
