UPDATE -
He made a quick turnaround last night. He was suddenly starving. I made him start with jello, then toast, then a banana over the course of an hour or so. He ended up eating a breakfast burrito and a plate of ravioli (horrible idea, but...teen boy) before he went to bed. He's back at school today.
Thanks for all the suggestions. I did talk to his doctor. We decided to go to urgent care if he wasn't better by late afternoon.
Hey, my grandson, 16, has had a stomach bug. This is day 3. It's not a typical norovirus where he's throwing up nonstop. It's every 4-6 hours. He'll feel well enough to want to eat, but throws up again later. He's eating toast, ramen, apple sauce, bananas.
Has anyone heard of this? No other symptoms. Negative for covid.

Gut rest. Is he constipated? Could be ileus where the stomach and it gut down and requires full stomach rest with fluids via IV.
Call is doctor. And maybe not have the ramen.
Stick with broth and electrolytes. For a good day then slowly add in safe foods that are easy to digest

He seemed better yesterday and asked for the ramen. Got sick again a couple hours later. I'm definitely reaching out to his doctor.

I'm mostly just wondering if others are seeing a similar bug in their family and how long it lasted.

Fever?
My kid (13) had some crud with a fever (100-102) off and on for 3 weeks and transient nausea. Last week we finally went in and they did every test they could to find out what is up. Epstein-Barr capsid positive and elevated abnormal WBC. She has mono. Such a fab way to spend a 2 week break. No gymnastics (she competes) and no PE until Nov. 1.

I have a message in to his doctor.

Im sorry, I hope he feels better soon! The stomach bug in our area seems to be a 24-36 hour thing and then it's done.

Ended up in the hospital and needed surgery (infected salivary gland). It sucks!! Hope your dd is feeling better soon.

I haven't heard that going around now but we've had that in the past. My girls and I had a virus one summer that sounded very similar - we'd be generally okay and then throw up a few hours later. Took almost a week to get it under control.

My teen son had these symptoms and it turned out to be his appendix. Teen boys are at a higher risk for appendicitis so it is worth getting it checked out to make sure that is not the issue.

It sucks seeing your kid sick for so long and not being able to do a damn thing about it other than treat symptoms.

What is he drinking? I always found ginger ale helps He is a strictly water drinker between meals. Then it's juice or milk, which he has avoided while sick. He hates anything carbonated. I find ginger ale helpful, too.

I have sometimes stir the bubbles down in the ginger ale so it is not so fizzy.
