Going to see my dd and her husband in Denver o weekend, going to Garden of the Gods then to take a train ride up Pikes Peak. If its sunny and 50 up there is it freezing cold or just cold which do you think? Im so troubled how to pack for this trip, going to Pikes Peak was just decided last night and now I have an hour to repack when I get home. Colorado Springs is going to be in the high 80's. Any advice on what to pack or just advice in general?

Last time I was on Pikes Peak (3-4 years ago) the wind was horrible up top and made it feel so much colder. I would definitely plan on it being freezing cold. Wear layers you can take back off as you descend.

We haven't been since 2010 but it was very windy up there and pretty cold. But we're Texans so cold to us is relative. We definitely layered and had jackets for up there. We were there in late August.

Layer under a light weight wind breaker.

We go up every year. Sometimes we drive, sometimes we cog it. Plan for a snowstorm. We got one up there early September. It doesn't start snowing until tree line though, so the views are beautiful. We went late May and it was 80 degrees in the Springs a blizzard up there. Wear a good warm coat, but you won't be outside for long. The cog drops you off about 20 second's walk from the building.
Our last few days have been in the 80's and when the sun goes past the mountains, it is high 60's. There is definitely a chill in the air with this fall 60's degrees right now.

I went there last year in mid June and it was around 65-70 at the bottom. Took the Cog up and it was a blizzard at the top. They actually closed everything at the top and we had to wait so the employees could board our cog to go to the bottom. I had sleet frozen on my glasses and in my hair. There were a few gals who had flip flops on. The gift shop up top did a great business in hats and mittens LOL. In answer to your question, I would be sure to have closed toed shoes on and maybe at heavy sweatshirt just in case.

You must be making one of the last trips by train of the season. IIRC, the train stops in October because of the weather--too much snow and ice.
Wear/take warm clothing.

Cold to one maybe freezing to another, but with this forecast, I would say it will be COLD! lol from an old lady's perspective now. That kind of weather use to not bother me a bunch, but sure don't like it now. Looks like it will be clear and dry, but windy and around 41 degrees with chill factor of 32. So definitely gloves and something to cover ears and face if you plan to stay out a bit and admire the views, you will need to be bundled up, but can also se the view from inside the visitor center. Remember to drink, drink, drink to stay hydrated to avoid altitude sickness.

That was exactly like our late June 2014 visit, except we drove up and they closed the road. We were stuck at the top for a few hours. We’ve been up 4 times total and I’ve never had a clear view yet. Maybe the fifth time will be the charm.

We’ve been up once where it was a warm and sunny 50. The other four times were like Chicago in January. Very windy, sun to grey, sometimes snow. Closed shows, layers, gloves and hat and you will be fine. You could also buy a souvenir sweatshirt up there. That’s actually kind of neat. They cost the same as they do at the bottom but you will always have it from the peak.
