My dad has a new smart phone and his mental capacity has recently changed. I need to get him a VERY simple cell phone with no password to access and no swiping to open. Just basic speed dialing so he can reach my sister and I and easily answer a call. It doesn't have to have internet access. Do you have any experience with a phone like this that you can recommend? TIA!

Jitterbug-- I have seen it advertised in the AARP magazine.

Flip phone from Tracfone appears to be similar, their service is reliable and affordable. www.tracfone.com/home

I got the Tracfone for my mom some years ago. It worked for her, although the numbers aren't large. I have seen ads for that Jitterbug that librarylady mentioned, and in the photo the numbers and buttons look bigger so that might be worth investigating.

I got my elderly dad an iphone se. he had trouble hitting buttons, and we set up siri, large print, high volume.. and he found it easy to use. the accessibility was great. he used siri constantly and never had to dial anything.

I had a patient once who refused to answer his phone in public because his daughter had gotten him a Jitterbug and he was embarrassed about it. Lololol we did share a laugh over that! (FWIW, he was in his 70s and not at all mentally diminished)
But, they do look very easy to use. I've had other patients with them.

From Wirecutter, for those with memory issues:
RAZ Mobility Memory Cell Phone- $349.00, so not cheap. But it does have some nice features, such as tapping someone’s picture to call them. It has GPS tracking, and can receive and announce reminders from a caregiver.
And
Snapfon ez4G For $79.00

My mom is on my Verizon plan. When I needed to replace her phone, I went in and told them I need a basic phone for an elderly person in declining mental and physical health. They directed me to a couple phones just for that type of person. You might want to go into a store and ask for guidance. Funny thing is the phone that is the most basic and she can use, my sister and I can never figure out how to use it.

Summit Flip Phone This is the one we got for our son. It's suuuuuuuper simple and the numbers are large. We pay $100 per year for the basic Boost service with unlimited talk and text. He can send a few photos a month, but that's it for data!

Not a phone, but I have similar concerns with my mom - she lives alone and might need to reach me if she falls or can't get to her phone. Amazon's devices are GREAT for us - I have several Echos strategically placed in her house, so that if she should have trouble, she just says "Alexa, call Genealopea." We're connected in a few seconds.
I am not very technologically proficient, so I don't understand how it works, but it works flawlessly. I can also "drop in" on her if she doesn't answer her cell phone. So while it's not a phone, it might be helpful for you, especially if your dad is mostly at home (like my mom.)

My dad is 85, and he has an iphone. I actually think iphones are the easiest to use. plus we all have iphone, so that makes it easy to fix. He likes to look at the weather, and get pic's, and notifications on his phone. He hears really well on the speaker part of the phone. He has no apps on the phone. just the stuff he needs. We use straight talk with it.

I bought my mom a flip phone at WalMart. The buttons can be programed so she can hold down the #2 key and it will dial me, #3 for my sister, etc. There's also a button on the back that I programed to call 911 if needed. You flip it open to answer and flip it shut to hang up. So simple.
