Anyone that has a platform bed, how do you like it?
We're redoing our grown kid's rooms and they will basically be guest rooms. About 90% of the beds they are showing are platforms. We need a full size, I don't want to get rid of our current full mattresses (and maybe our box springs if we need them).
I've gone down the rabbit hole with Wayfair, Overstock (BBB) and all the furniture stores near me.
They just look so low but if you put a box spring on top, it takes up most of the headboard.
Plus I've read that they are kind of hard to get out of since they are so low.
So of course ALL the ads I see online are now beds and headboards...
Any opinions?

we have a platform bed in one house and a regular bed in the other. the key is to make sure it is not too low. we took a bed and cut down the legs. but as you are older, it is easier to get up from something lower. I think.. maybe have a sturdy piece of furniture next to it. if you are concerned.

We have a platform bed in our guest room. We didn't want one too low, so we got one with drawers underneath. We also bought a new mattress, one of those that comes in a bag, shipped to your house. We got a 17" mattress. Those two things put it at just the right height.

We bought a relatively inexpensive platform bed from Amazon that is a dupe of the 4x more expensive Thuma bed. If anything, it’s higher than our previous bed. I’m very happy with its quality and design.

DS has a platform bed with drawers underneath. Their home is very small and the extra space (drawers is nice). I don't recall it being low the night I slept in it.

We have a platform bed and we love it (2 months in). Ds also has one and loves it. Neither bed is low. You just have to pay attention to the height of the platform and the height of the mattress. Best part is- no boxspring!

I had to google what a platform bed was. I have one. I bought one when I was sick that would allow me to raise the head (and feet) when I was coughing. I HATE it. It's too high for me. I need a stepstool to get in the damn thing.

It also is a matter of how your kids/guests want to sleep. A platform will add about 1/4 of firmness to the mattress. In a guest room, it does make a perfect way to increase storage. If you get a platform bed then don't get an ultra-firm mattress. Just a tip.

We have one with drawers underneath that we use with our Sleep Number bed. Personally I like it without the platforms because it would be lower and easier to get in and out of because I’m short. DH is tall though and he just *had* to have them, so I have to practically launch myself into the damn thing every night.
DD has a regular bed frame now that we bought a box spring for, and after putting it together we realized we probably didn’t need one for that style of frame. With it, her bed is also really high.

First, pay attention to the height specification of the platform + the height of your chosen mattress. The average modern mattresses falls between 8 and 14 inches but can be as thick as 18 inches. Most people like the combined height to be close to the height of a standard dining room chair seat of 17-18" This height is easy for people to sit down and stand up as they get into/out of bed. My platform is 8" tall and my mattress is 10"putting the top of the bed at 18". Perfect seating height. I am not struggling to stand up from a very low position nor am I pole vaulting to get into bed. On my platform the headboard does not attach to the bed frame but is mounted to the wall. If the headboard is mounted to the platform you will want a mattress thickness that fits the space which may or may not be the thickness of your current mattresses. Given the wide range of mattress thicknesses these days, no matter what style of bedframe (traditional rails/slats or platform) You have to pay attention to the combined height of the bedframe and mattress to determine how easy it will be to use.

Thanks. The mattresses are 8" so that's why I was concerned. But Waydays are here and there's so many good prices I think I'll take a chance. And good to "see" you Voltagain!

Good to be seen Box springs are not used on a platform. I think if you get the height right for the mattress you have you'll like the platform.
