I am currerntly organizing some pattern paper that I have. Normally, I store my pattern paper by brand > then collection. My question is, what do you do with paper that you only have one sheet of a collection left? Do you leave it in the brand section? Store it with other random paper? Many times the B sides of the left over paper is a good, generic pattern - so while it may not be used with any particular collection, it *could* be used with any other collection, *if* I remember I have it.
So how do you store those random one sheets?

If you have enough you could just create a “good generic b-sides” category for all the leftovers. I guess it depends on whether you would actually look there for them when you’re creating.

I don't look there now, but I think I could train myself to look probably, lol. It just seems that they are being wasted right now.

Although I'm not a collection scrapper & often purchase only one sheet from a given collection for its classic pattern (usually found on the reverse side), I also primarily store paper by manufacturer/brand. Therefore, my paper holder for any manufacturer contains an assortment of 1-3 sheets of patterned paper from various collections of that brand for ease in mixing/matching colors/etc.
ETA: If you are a collection &/or theme scrapper, an alternative is to add each random patterned paper to another collection from the same manufacturer/brand that has a similiar theme &/or color palette to expand its patterned paper options (especially since either/both sides - the theme & generic pattern on reverse - could be used).

I sort mine by theme. I have those one inch thick paper holders from HL that are at the front of each theme with those unique papers in them. That way I can also put the name of the theme on the side of the holder.

So how do you store those random one sheets? I have two paper holders, one labeled "Random Patterned Paper" and one labeled "Random Story Paper" in addition to all my other paper organization. The Random Patterned Paper is for any "one sheet" types that don't belong to a collection or a strong theme, like Fall or Echo Park something-or-other. It has one off patterns like a plaid or a smattering of hearts, etc. But there is only one sheet of that, hence the random label. The Random Story Paper is for one off sheets that I use to tell a particular story. So I know I have one sheet in there of Cowgirl paper. Only one sheet, and it is very specific to cowgirls. Right now no need for it and there isn't really a spot for cowgirl in with all my other paper. I go through my random collections pretty often just to weed them and make sure I know what I have.

I only store a couple by brand (Basic Grey, Daisy D's). I am selective (hoarding it) about using it. If I were down to only one or two piece, I would move it into the "by pattern" 13 x 13 envelope.
I mostly store patterned paper by pattern (wood, brick, floral, water color, grunge, polka dot, stripes, plaids/checkered, etc...).

That last page goes into my miscellaneous section. Those pattern papers are stored by color. That way when I’m looking for something in whatever color I can see all my choices.

I sort by:
Dd Ds Christmas/winter Halloween/fall
Halloween and Christmas are the only 2 themed pages I scrapbook.
Anyways, I store my paper in Iris containers for 12x12 paper. I keep papers together by brand name as 99% of the time I can use an older collection paper with a newer line. Companies seem to stick to specific colors.
So if it were me, I'd put it on the top of my Iris container or mix it in with a company that uses like colors.
Most of the time I don't even look at the company name. I just file through and start to grab what speaks to me and what works well together. I can use 2-3 various companies sometimes.

I don't really have any order to my paper storage, it's mostly just all brands and collections mixed together, although if I've got a lot of a single collection I try to keep it together. In this instance I'd be inclined to add it to another collection that it coordinates with.

I store my papers mostly by theme, but some are stored according to color or manufacturer. It depends on the paper. When I have just 1 sheet of a particular collection, I will store it with similar colors, themes, or collections. I try to think of how I would get the most use out of it.

If I buy a random sheet or 2, or if I have a sheet left, I tend to store them by the main color of the side I'm most likely to use. I don't break patterned paper sheets into every individual color, but I do have them split into cool colors, warm colors, & neutrals.
(Unless they are a very specific theme, such as holiday or a specific travel location and couldn't really be used for everyday photos/crafts.)

I also store by manufacturer, then collection. If I have one paper left, it still gets stored with that manufacturer. The different companies have different “feels”, so I am likely to use that single sheet.
If I’m brutally honest with myself, the papers don’t always stay sorted by collection within the manufacturer.

I sort the same way, manufacturer then collection. Once it gets down to the last few pieces it goes to the ROYGBIV patterned paper section. This is not huge. I tend to tire of collections and end up donating leftovers. I keep a few basic papers that I think I might use for other projects. I really never scrap by theme or mix manufacturers.

It would depend on the paper. If it coordinated well with other collections of the brand, I would leave it with the brand. Otherwise I would file it based on another sort, such as color, pattern, or theme.

When I have random sheets of patterned paper I either sort by theme, if appropriate, or I have an accordian paper holder where I have it sorted by color. It's really handy when I want a sheet of orange paper, for example. I can pull out that paper holder and check my stash of orange.

I do this for papers that could be backgrounds. I only did this about a year ago and I'm still learning to go there to look, but a big help was getting horizontal shelf organizers for my kallax that let me have it at my fingertips. I sort ROYGBIV and it's labelled so I know where to grab a chunk of pp to look at the blues etc. I have at least 4" of papers this way now, and they are all older so I don't feel compelled to keep them with their collections. For orphan papers that don't fit a theme, and wouldn't be good backgrounds I have 2 options: 1. a folder literally labelled "pretty orphans" 2. a folder for papers that could be cut apart/fussy cut

I sort random papers by theme or manufacturer, depending on the paper. Then I have a stack of completely randoms Aka my forgotten stack.

Count me in the group that has these leftovers organized in rainbow order by colour, usually based on the b-side. These are stored in vertical storage folders so I can easily flip through. For things that are heavily patterned/multicoloured, I have those in a section at the end and will sometimes just grab a sheet and pair it up with others from the rainbow file. I find I prefer using b-sides to cardstock, so I reach for these often.

I would sort the random leftovers by color or theme. I leave collections together until they're used up or only have a sheet or 2 of pp left. Sorting/storing pp is a never-ending enterprise mom.

You are not kidding, lol. I ended up sorting them by theme (stars, stripes, polka dots, florals). I figured out almost all of them fit into one of those categories. The couple of ones that didn't fit anything, I stored with their normal brand collections, just at the front so I would see them and maybe use them.

Could good B sides warrant a separate category in your thinking? Maybe make that the place you look first for an "extra something" when scrapping?

I sort card stock by color. ROYGBIV with turquoise, peach, tan, black and white thrown in. Patterned paper is sorted by predominate color. Specialty paper goes into a separate grouping. I use a tower with sliding shelves that I got from Michael's. I used this method for several years now - it works well for me.
