I am applying to a very very part time job with my local school district, not a teaching position. I have been a stay-at-home mom for a long time, but have been volunteering for our school district since 2016 which hopefully wins me some bonus job getting points... Anyway, when filling out the application (online, fill in the box and you can't skip anything) it asks for my high school transcript or a copy of my diploma and yes/no I can provide a copy. I actually have a college degree. Do I provide a copy of my high school diploma since that's all they asked for, or in the "why can't you provide your high school diploma, explain' space, say something about having a college diploma instead? Also, references... Do they call references right away, or is that something that gets checked right before being hired? The one time someone used me as a reference, she got the job and no one ever called me. Just curious how that usually works. Thanks

Since they ask for your high school diploma, give that one if you can. If you don't have it, give your college diploma.
I have found that they call references after the interview. In my district, they must talk to three people who have been in a supervising position. Perhaps you were originally a reference but not a supervisor and they had to get a new one? They generally do not offer a position prior to calling references.
I also had to fill out a long form for the district I worked in for 28 years prior. Still had to jump through all of the hoops.

Sometime now the references is a google form or questionnaire with no actual phone call. Most time they probably wait for an interview before calling/emailing references.
Yes I would explain if there is a spot. I mean anything in the educational field requires a ridiculous amount of documentation but I have no idea how I would ever find my high school diploma!!
