Hi all! DH and I are headed up to the Hudson Valley next month for a belated anniversary trip. It will be our first trip (outside of holidays) of more than a night or so in years, and I am very much looking forward to it. We are going up Friday-Monday. Here is what is on our list so far, but I would appreciate any other suggestions of things to see or places to eat. 🍂 Things to Do/See 🍂 - Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground
- Sleepy Hollow Cemetery
- Sleepy Hollow Lighthouse
- Kykuit, The Rockefeller Estate
- New York State Museum
- Olana State Historic Site
- Vanderbilt Mansion National Historic Site
- Martin Van Buren National Historic Site
- Staatsburgh State Historic Site
- Lake Placid Olympic Museum
- Saratoga National Historical Park
- Walkway Over the Hudson
🍁 Possible Places to Eat 🍁 - Horsefeathers
- Origin Coffee Company
- The Pickled Pig
- Four Brothers Pizza Inn
- Sharkie's
- The “Historic” Village Diner
Thank you!

I was going to suggest a ride on the Minne-Ha-Ha in Lake George, but I believe that they are only open until mid October. You have a pretty good list there already. Good luck and I hope you guys have an awesome time!
ETA got my Saratoga and Lake George confused. Hahaha

I think the only comment I'd make about your existing list is that Lake Placid is kind of a haul from a lot of the rest of the sites, if you hadn't mapped it.
I love going to the little towns up the Hudson just to walk around cute small downtowns (Rhinebeck is particularly cute) and interesting shops (Hudson, which is less cute, has a lot of interesting stores), if those are things you're interested in. Both have restaurants, obviously -- I had a good meal at Market in Rhinebeck when I was last there a year ago. Woodstock is more touristy and leans into its hippie theming, but also pretty cute.

compeateropeator Thanks! I think we may do a quick stop at Lake George, if only for the sheer fact they mentioned it on The Sopranos (we're watching it for the first time and almost done and it makes me sad we're nearly done). epeanymous Thank you! We definitely have -- that and Saratoga (and possibly Lake George) would be on our last full day there for that reason. We were thinking about possibly checking out Woodstock. And I will absolutely be posting scrapbook pages online!

There's a great Greek restaurant in Tarrytown called Lefteris Gyro. I highly recommend it!

I live in the Hudson Valley. If you are going to the Roosevelt Estate I highly recommend that you go to the Culinary institute of America . You need to make a reservation for dinner, there are 4 restaurants to choose from. I think you can also reserve lunch in the Italian Restaurant. Cold Spring is a quaint town and there are restaurants there. Are you interested in West Point? If you like to hike I suggest Mount Beacon. Beacon has become popular. I like Brother’s Italian restaurant there. You can go to the Newburgh waterfront to a place called Hudson Taco. It’s pricey but the tacos are gourmet. The drinks are amazing and the Mexican corn salad is yummy.

Not sure if you will be in the area but we love The Harvest as a restaurant. It is in Queensbury. It is not fancy but definitely a favorite.
Also if you like Michigan dogs…Zack’s in Hudson Falls is also a favorite but they may be closing soon?

Aheartfeltcard Thank you! I did see that the Culinary Institute is there. I'll have to mention it to DH. We had planned on going to the West Point Museum on our last day there on our way home, but unfortunately, it's closed on Mondays. compeateropeator I can always put it on our map of possible sites just in case! peasapie Thank you! It's been a while since we've done a trip, so I'm excited for us to just be able to have some time away. mommaho Thanks so much!

Ok for Saratoga I did enjoy yaddo gardens but not sure there would be much to see in winter but the drive thru the battle fields is nice and should be fine in winter.
If you have the time a tasting at Harney & sons tea is fun
Edited I did not see that typo fixed it.

hop2 Thank you! I'm looking forward to it! (We also have a small Subaru, so we should be okay if we run into any snow. We'll be up there early next month since we couldn't get ourselves together to go this month.)

Update: thank you all again for your recommendations! We didn't get to see everything we wanted, but already want to make a return trip.
Here's what we did see!
🍂 Friday - Philipsburg Manor - Old Dutch Church and Burying Ground/Sleepy Hollow Cemetery - Kykuit
🍂 Saturday - West Point Museum - Olana (didn't tour, just walked the grounds) - Martin van Buren NHS - New York State Museum
🍂 Sunday - Saratoga NHP - Lake Placid Olympic Museum
🍂 Monday - Vanderbilt Mansion - Walkway over the Hudson
We drove exactly 1,244 miles; walked 40,592 steps; paid lord only knows how much in tolls (haven't looked that up yet); and I took just shy of 400 pics, and I'll have to see how many DH took.

compeateropeator We loved just about every minute. We weren't too keen on the first place we stayed (it was a bit farther out of the way than I'd realized - lesson learned; and it was also a restaurant on the first floor, so it was a little rowdy when we were trying to sleep, among other things, but the place we stayed in Albany was lovely). That aside, there are definitely places we want to see on a return trip and some stops probably didn't need all of the attention we gave them, but now we know better and can plan ahead. DH also thinks he encountered something spooky at Sleepy Hollow (which he didn't tell me until last night), so that's sort of neat. We got separated for a bit at the cemetery, and he said something was rustling near him and it was too noisy to be a squirrel but nobody was around him.
