Today Scrapbook Generation announced they are closing the brick and mortar store at the end of the year, but will be keeping the online store. Here’s the message:
There is never a good time for an announcement like this. We know what this change ahead means to many of you, and hope you understand the reason this decision had to be made.
After 20 years of change and growth, Scrapbook Generation will be closing its brick and mortar store in Springfield, MO at the end of 2024. Founded in 2004 by two sets of sisters, Debbie Sanders and Karin Rush, and Debbie’s daughters Stacey Atchley and Allison Davis, the SG brand will transition to an all-online business in 2025.
The reason for the closing is simple and straightforward...the two older sisters are ready to slow down just a bit. Debbie and Karin went directly from 30-year careers as educators into the new world of running a small business, which has grown beyond their wildest dreams. After 50 years of back-to-back successful careers, it is time for a little less work responsibilities for both.
The final day for the Springfield store will be Saturday, December 28. Current days and hours of operation will remain the same until then...open Wednesday through Saturday from 10 am - 5 pm. The store will be closed Saturday, November 2, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day.
Plans are to use the first months of 2025 to locate a new warehouse space, get it set up as work-friendly as possible, then move the online operation there. During the time in 2025 when the online store/warehouse is still operating out of the brick and mortar location, store pick-up will continue to be offered for local and area customers. Any specifics about dates and times will be announced closer to that time.
Gift cards for the local store will no longer be sold, and any current card-holders should plan to spend their cards by December 28. Any gift cards not spent by that time can be transferred to the online store. Reward coupons for the local store must also be redeemed by December 28. Any reward coupons not redeemed by that date can be transferred to the online store. There will be a process announced for both types of transfers as the end of the year approaches.
Closing the Springfield store is a big change, and the decision was not made lightly. Many things in life can be worked around with a little creativity, but age is not one of them. In the end, the decision that started off as hard and difficult soon became clear and necessary. That said, Debbie and Karin will continue to be involved in the Scrapbook Generation brand for the foreseeable future. Here is what won’t change.
• Debbie will still lead the 11,000 members of the SG Scrap Squad Facebook group. She is looking forward to continuing the group’s current 2024 Create project in 2025.
• Karin will still be filling orders and shipping all over the United States. Her handwritten notes of thanks on each online order are here to stay.
• Allison Davis will continue to create, teach, and inspire. She will still be designing sketches, creating online classes, and providing YouTube, Facebook, and Instagram content.
• The We Create luxury crop will continue each September. Event director Stacey Atchley plans even more improvements once a new and spacious event staging area is set up in the new warehouse.
Here is what MIGHT happen once the business is moved to a new warehouse...
• SG hopes to continue to offer pick-up for online orders to local and area customers.
• There may be occasional warehouse sales and/or pop-up stores.
• There may be the chance to offer in-person Allison Davis classes in addition to those at We Create.
• There may be additional retreat/crop opportunities.
Here is what WILL happen once the business is solely online...
• Work will begin on an improved scrapbookgeneration.com website experience.
• The amount of brands and products will be expanded.
As the time counts down to the closing of the brick and mortar store, the SG family has sincere appreciation for each person, local or traveler, who has shopped at Scrapbook Generation during the past 20 years. The friendships and relationships made because of the shared love of scrapbooking have been both plentiful and rewarding. While there won’t be the same level of in-person contact as in the past, the Scrapbook Generation brand will continue to provide the best in scrapbooking products, education, and inspiration. The last 20 years have been fulfilling and adventurous, and the SG family is handling this change the same way new directions have always been approached...together, and with confidence.
