Most of the U.S. seems to be in, or heading for, drought conditions. I’m in a part of my state that has received the least amount of rain, though the entire state is pretty low on moisture right now. I’m worried about fires.
How is it where you live? And are other countries experiencing drought conditions as well?

I'm in Germany. We've had a couple of major flood events this year - in early June along the Rhine and Danube rivers and recently in the south. We've also had a lot of rain, particularly in the north, in the past 2-3 weeks from the tail end of one of the low pressure systems in the Atlantic that swept across the north of Europe. It rained lightly here most of last week and has just started raining again in the past half hour, though it's not heavy, just enough to be annoying as I have to walk to my doctor in 15 minutes.

So it is a mixed bag in my area/state. We had devastating flooding in July in some areas, exactly one year after we also had devastating flooding in 2023. July was above normal. August and September we had less than average rainfall. October has been very very dry so far. Therefore, we are not officially in a drought but we are in ‘abnormally dry’ conditions. It is feast or famine…extremes are happening. I will be curious on what winter brings. Rainfall Totals vs Normals (30 Year Average): The first number is the Month 30-year average vs. This year (2024 the 2nd number)
July - 4.72" vs 4.98" August - 4.24". Vs 3.64" September - 3.64" vs 2.57" October - 4.54" vs 1.22"

It’s pretty dry here. I just passed a Smokey Bear sign yesterday that said fire danger risk is currently high. Earlier this year there was dangerous flooding from excessive spring rain in some places in my state. Ironically, I was just reading a blurb in a NY Times daily recap email that flooding in recent years in the U.S. has increased dramatically, from two federally declared flooding disasters in 2000 up to 66 just this year.

East TN is dry but October is normally dry here. We definitely do need rain.

We really need rain in my area of TX. I think it's been about a month or longer since we have had some and we're still watering. I heard there is a possibility of some next week but I'd love a really good storm!

Plenty of rain here in the UK But there are several African Countries which have had no rain for up to 15 months, They are taking drastic actions to make sure people have food & water by culling wildlife for meat and what little water there is goes to people first It is awful but sadly they have little option .

SE Texas is having an abnormally dry October. It hasn't rained in a few weeks. Normally we get quite a bit of rain at this time of year.

Seeing these statistics makes me wonder whether, if you averaged out the numbers enough, you’d find it all balances out.

We are supposed to help my son’s family take outdoor Christmas pictures at the beach next week. I’m betting we will get rain on that day only.

I would guess that October is not a complete statistic yet…as the 2024 amount is incomplete. But it has been a very dry and warm October so far and I do think we will end up well below the 30 year average. We also had a very wet spring, I think. It all runs together these days. 😆. I should look at those averages.

It is so dry here in Central Indiana. Harvest is still going strong around us and in the past two weeks there have been 3 field fires started by combines.

We had an atmospheric river on the weekend and we are good for rain for a while. Today is sunny and foggy, which is kind of mysterious. I cannot see the house behind me. The ferries may be cancelled even! (That’s a big thing here).

California seems to always be in and out of droughts. Right now, after two really wet winters, we are in good condition. San Diego County is not worried for another year or two. They are predicting about 75% of the annual total rainfall for 2025.
ETA - We always worry about fires, drought or no drought. The heavy rains means lots of growth, which later translate into dry brush in the summers.

In the DC region we're 20-something days without rain, and the few days before that were just little bits of rain. And none in the immediate forecast. We're not sure if we're going to be allowed to have our neighborhood Halloween bonfire this year. Which is of course not serious compared to drought that cause fires and that affect crops. But still sad for our neighborhood kids.

I know we were at Tahoe a few years ago when the lake level was so low it wasn't draining into the Truckee River and it is flowing again.

Central TX - October is our 3rd rainiest month on average, with about 3.91". This October (so far), we've gotten 0.05" officially, and that was also the only rain since September 3.

Western Illinois, and everything is so dry here. We need rain - and not that surprise bit of water that was just enough to make things wet this morning. We could use hours and hours of soaking rain.

We haven't had a drop of rain since the 6 inches or so we got from Hurricane Helene in late September. I've complained all summer about the lack of rainfall. However, I do think it saved a lot of our trees. One community just a bit northwest of us lost a lot more trees, they had more rainfall than we have had this summer so the ground may have been moister to begin with.

Well- I live in South Australia- the driest state on the driest continent so water is a BIG issue here We are rural and have several large rainwater tanks I am proud to say that we have used exclusively collected rainwater in our household for almost all of the time we have lived here. We are VERY careful about water use ALL the time . There was a saying during a particularly bad time of drought some years ago regarding toilet use…” if it’s brown flush it down- if it’s yellow ,let it mellow” 🤣🤣🤣

No measurable rain here in over a month. Minimal rain before that.
The ground/grassy areas are dusty. Trees are too dry and don't look good.

My area of So Cal has not had more than .5 in of rain since March. In June, July, Aug and so far Oct there hasn't been any measurable rain (Sept there was 0.03 in). It has been a very dry summer and fall so far.
In the 10 day forecast I see one day with rain, 0.02 inches, but it probably won't actually happen.

We are just getting rain for the first time since I don't know when!! It's lovely hearing it. It's cool out so the windows are open. However, it will not be enough to get us out of the burn ban. Or that is what I just read earlier.

This year, I was grumbling because I couldn’t put away the patio furniture covers until around late May or so. We kept having pockets of rain every 5-7 days or so.
