Please consider this scenario: You want a particular image - for example, a scarecrow - (ETA: to use on layouts) that is available as a die (individual with multiple pieces) & stamp (in a set with other images). However, you decide to purchase only one (e.g. since a scarecrow is seasonal & wouldn't be used regularly, cost, or any reason). If both options are the same image/size/price/etc., would you choose dies or stamps? TIA.

Stamp. Hands down because I have a stamping platform and can easily line everything up and stamp them color or use colored ink. It is time consuming to cut each piece and paper piece together with glue.
Plus I feel a stamp would give me more options.

Stamps. But I'd be even happier if I had a die to cut it out.

Stamp. Hands down because I have a stamping platform and can easily line everything up and stamp them color or use colored ink. Yep, this for me too. I've never been into paper piecing things together so a die doesn't appeal to me, I'd much rather stamp.

I don't even use a die cutting machine/system of any kind, so definitely the stamp for me.

I have a die cutting machine and I rarely rarely use it. Now I pull stamps out all the time and use.

For something like this a stamp. I use the die machine for only easy things circles, rectangle. I use the Cameo for hard shapes and for trace and cutting the stamps. I don't do too good with the die machine for cutting lots of small pieces.

A stamp seems to be the easiest option. And probably less expensive. And you may be able to use some of the other images that come with the stamp set.

this is so hard! I think it depends on what I need it for. card making - die (though more likely I'd find the best free image online, size it to what I want, and cut on my silhouette). memorykeeping - stamp.

I'm in the minority. I love stamps, but colouring and fussy cutting is just as labour intensive...and often not as "perfect" looking... as a pieced together die cut. I also like the dimension of the pieced die cut. If a stamp came out as a fully coloured image, I'd choose stamps! And I won't give up my stamps either, but you are making me choose

It depends on what I’m making. I like both but I voted for stamps. More variety for me. And yes, I do cut out my stamps with the matching dies. Not a fan of fussy cutting.

I don't enjoy coloring, so I would choose a die. Recently I've being doing a lot of die cutting and have found that I really enjoy playing with them.

I chose dies, I have a brother Scan N Cut, so I have taken a photo of the image on the package and scanned it, then used the die to cut it out. I've tried to scan the package but it wasn't as easy as using an image. If I recall correctly, it's been a while since I've even used my machine. And it may have been the Cameo?
It's kind of a cheat, but in a pinch it works.

I agree both options require time & effort, so the decision (in this scenario, where the cost of dies/stamps is equal) ultimately comes down to preferred results - either inherently imperfect/flat of stamping/coloring/fussy cutting (if a coordinating outline die is not available) or uniform/dimensional from die cutting/paper piecing.

I am terrible at colouring, so I have to say I prefer the dies. I will sometimes add details like eyes with a pen rather than fuss around with tiny little dots, but I find layering much less stressful than shading. Now, if i had a third choice of layered stencils, I might be tempted to go that way...

I don't enjoy coloring ... I enjoy basic coloring with colored pencils or art crayons as watercolors on rare occasions that I choose to color an image for a layout but, as a scrapbooker who merely incorporates stamping into scrapping, am not interested in investing time to master the art of it for more polished/professional results.
