Liz Cheney, J. Michael Luttig and other Republicans who are endorsing Harris inspire me and give me hope. Most of Luttig's opinion is about why Trump is unfit to ever hold office, but here's the positive part about Harris. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/29/opinion/donald-trump-oath.htmlMs. Harris is the only candidate who can be trusted to honor the president’s sacred obligations to America’s democracy, Constitution and rule of law. The vice president understands and cares about what Donald Trump does not. She calls on Americans to “stand up for the rule of law. For our democratic ideal. And for the Constitution of the United States.” She believes we “have the power to chart a new way forward, one that is worthy of this magnificent country that we are all blessed to call home.”

There's been a lot of talk about young men supporting Trump. But, as this writer points out not as much talk about women supporting Harris. As he says, maybe that's the gender gap that matters. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/26/opinion/gender-election-voting-men-women-young.htmlThe gender gap among young voters is as large as it has ever been. According to the Harvard poll, 70 percent of likely voters among young women of color favored Harris, as against 15 percent for Trump. The former president led among young men across the three most recent Times/Siena polls, but Harris maintained a similar 67-to-28 advantage among young women there as well. You can find similar spreads in every available poll of the national race. Women overwhelmingly favored Harris, and men largely favored Trump. The gender gap has not inspired the same level of analysis and deep focus on young women as it has on young men. Even a close reader of election coverage may forget for a moment that this is the first presidential election since the Supreme Court’s decision on Dobbs more than two years ago. If there was ever an election in which to focus on the political behavior of young women, it’s this one.I don’t make predictions anymore, so I won’t try to make a guess about what these gaps mean for the final outcome. But I will say that if Harris wins the White House, we may look back and say that we should have focused a little more on the women, young and otherwise, who most likely made the difference. This might not hold, but women are voting in big numbers, 55% of the early vote is women vs 45% for men in battleground states. www.politico.com/news/2024/10/29/gender-gap-early-voting-00186155Across battlegrounds, there is a 10-point gender gap in early voting so far: Women account for roughly 55 percent of the early vote, while men are around 45 percent, according to a POLITICO analysis of early vote data in several key states.

Confidence in the economy is on an upswing www.usnews.com/news/economy/articles/2024-10-29/consumers-turn-upbeat-on-the-economy-on-the-cusp-of-the-electionAs Americans prepare to vote in one week on who should inhabit the White House in 2025, there is a surprising improvement on how they view the economy.
The Conference Board’s consumer confidence index for October, released Tuesday, posted the best monthly gain since March 2021 on sharply improved perception of the current state of the economy. The overall index rose to 108.7 from 99.2 in September, but the present situation component – which measures consumers’ views on the current economic conditions – surged by 14.2 points to 138.

I find Kamala to be very inspiring and her energy is making me smile again. America is so divided. I think she’ll change that.

Two things have given me hope on a personal level. My DH is an independent but leans conservative. He doesn’t agree with several of Kamala's policies but he’s a never Trumper. He waited in line for an hour last week to vote and while he admits he wasn’t thrilled about it, he voted for Kamala. My SIL is a Southern Baptist Republican. I would guess that abortion is her #1 issue. My brother told me that she voted for Kamala this week too. I wasn’t completely surprised by my DH as he often votes Democrat for president but I was shocked by my sister in law. It gives me hope.

She sounds presidential and looks presidential with the backdrop of the White House. She delivered a really powerful and optimistic closing argument. Harris

Not an invitation to rail at me… I am totally disillusioned with the entire electoral process. The way Maga has hijacked the Republican party. Divisiveness. Ugly rhetoric, thinly veiled, and not veiled, hate. Hate in general. Hate. Hate and hate.. Voting for policy that I absolutely am against (homebuyers, credits, small business, credits, money, money, money, money, money for everybody, but those that earned it.) Misinformation. Disinformation. Lies and more lies by nearly everybody in either party. Never-ending othering and finger-pointing. Distilling entire humans down into two buckets. Disregard for diverse, perspectives, experiences, and priorities. I could go on and on and on. I don’t feel any better about voting for Kamala Harris than I did for Joe Biden. It’s more than hold my nose. I also believe that the Democrats knew that Biden was weak, fragile, and unable to complete the election process much less another four year term. They hijacked our two party system with a candidate that did not receive a single primary vote. All that said, I knew who I was voting for Harris, but I viscerally did not want to. My state has early voting, and Michelle Obama’s speech gave me the strength that I needed to go in and cast my vote. For the record, her approach obviously didn’t change my mind. I knew how I was voting. But it made the shit sandwich that is our political system more palatable long enough to go fill out some bubbles. Too bad liberal warriors have chosen to be condescending, wielding their “superior, intellect” for months and months, rather than engage actual human voters as people. Republican does not equal maga. I hope Harris wins. I hope she is a fantastic president. Or at the minimum a president for all people. I don’t think that’s possible, but it’s better than the alternative. Glad to be done with it.

This is also good news - the edge Trump has on the economy is shrinking from 13 points to 6 points. Maybe she is getting through to some people. www.nytimes.com/2024/10/30/us/elections/trump-harris-economy-poll.htmlPolls Show Trump’s Edge Shrinking on Voters’ Top Issue: The Economy It remains priority No. 1 for many voters, particularly those who are still undecided, according to Times/Siena polling. But can Kamala Harris translate her gains into votes?
But Ms. Harris has made some gains on the economy. In a September Times/Siena poll, likely voters favored Mr. Trump’s handling of the economy by 13 percentage points; that lead had shrunk to just six percentage points in the latest Times/Siena poll, which was conducted last week. Other pollsters have shown similar gains for the vice president on the issue.

This is kind of amazing. Respect for Liz Cheney and Barbara Comstock for standing up and not staying on the sidelines. I wish Nikki Haley would take a page from their book former rivalsDana Bash @danabashcnn "I may not be here in 4 years, so I'm not about to sit on the sidelines. The stakes are too high." RepWexton tells me why, despite receiving a devastating diagnosis, she's teaming up with her former Republican rival BarbaraComstock to support Kamala Harris.

2 Harris volunteers just showed up at my house here in NH to ask if we’re planning to vote. I’m taking that as a positive sign, I haven’t seen any Trump ones. We’re all registered as Independents because NH allows you to declare/ undeclare a party on the day of the primary.

It is positive to see principled Republicans taking a stand against Trumpism. It gives me hope that they may someday regain control of their party. I'd like to get back to a place where both sides operate in good faith and work together for the good of the country.

Harris ahead in Iowa poll, although within margin of error. Hope baby hope I’m not optimistic enough to think she could actually win Iowa, but I do think if it’s that close in Iowa, she is might be doing better than the polls are showing in the battleground states
