Thank you for posting this. I will be watching. The closer it gets to E Day, the more my anxiety wakes up. I’m not overly religious but, we need all the help we can get. God Bless America.

You could tell they were having a lot of fun and she even laughed at herself.

Ouch. I do not understand why he is considered "funny." And he mentioned he had been on the show 6 times. I have watched SNL since the early 90s and I remember his last appearance which was dismal, but dont remember him 4 other times.

I watched the opening and thought it was awesome! She seemed to be having fun with it! I just thinking how surreal it must be for Maya Rudolph to be staring at the face of the person she is impersonating. Was it my imagination or did Maya get a bit misty-eyed? You could tell that she recognized what a once in a lifetime moment that was.

I just saw that now the FCC is saying it broke the rules of equal airtime. Wtf? I mean, Trump overtakes the air all of the time with his stupid comments.

But that is in the news - this is giving someone a platform to ask for votes. Personally, I don't care when candidates for either party do these kinds of stunt to make that appeal more to everyday Americans.

He was a writer on SNL for several years, and also occasionally appeared on the show. He's definitely talented, but that monologue left me cold. I don't think I've seen him any other time he hosted, as I'm not typically a regular SNL watcher.

I just saw that now the FCC is saying it broke the rules of equal airtime. Wtf? I mean, Trump overtakes the air all of the time with his stupid comments. Both candidates are supposed to get equal air time for ads and stuff like that. This is for both tv and radio. I sometimes listen to a Christian radio station here. I remember, maybe 2016, when they were playing an ad and they made the disclaimer that it wasn't the station endorsing one candidate over another. They were required to air both side's ads. I'm guessing that stations offer both options of coming on and speaking with the hosts (CNN, MSNBC, FOX, etc). If they take them up on it, that's up to them. From what I'm reading, Trump's team was not offered a spot to come on to SNL (he did in 2016 and Hilary did as well). SNL's executive producer said last month that they wouldn't bring either of them on because of this rule.

That was one of the FCC commissioners, a Trump appointed one, who gave his opinion not an official FCC statement. Everything I’m reading says he is wrong.

I don't watch SNL typically and a friend sent me the clip on Youtube. It's so cute, I love how lighthearted and funny it was.

That was one of the FCC commissioners, a Trump appointed one, who gave his opinion not an official FCC statement. Everything I’m reading says he is wrong. To the best of my knowledge the equal time has been gone for years!! Well I was wrong but..... Equal time rule rarely limits broadcaster from giving air time Today the equal time rule is more of a formality than a real burden on broadcasters. With all the exceptions granted to the rule, it rarely limits the ability of a television or radio station to give air time to a candidate. Thus, although some claim that the rule violates the First Amendment, there has been no real effort to repeal it or to challenge it in court. Moreover, as new forms of the media, such as the Internet, become more important, others claim that the relevancy of the equal time rule is diminishing. As noted, the equal time rule is often confused with the now-repealed fairness doctrine. The latter, in existence from 1949 to 1987, required broadcasters airing one side of a controversial issue to provide equal time to opposing viewpoints. The fairness doctrine’s constitutionality on First Amendment grounds was upheld in Red Lion Broadcasting Co. v. Federal Communications Commission (1969). This article was originally published in 2009. Shannon K. McCraw is a Professor at Southeastern Oklahoma State University. firstamendment.mtsu.edu/article/equal-time-rule/
