We have one that has come around for over 20 years. He's seen our kids grow up. He gives his customers his cell number so if you don't get outside fast enough you just call and he swings back around.

We have one come by every night around dinner time. When I was a kid we had a ding dong cart which my favorite was a circus ?? It was sherbet on top of this plastic shape which you didn't know what it was til you finished. When I was younger we also had mr. Softee which was soft serve. Funny how they could be a block away and you hear just a bit music (each had different one) and you would send one sibling out to stop the truck while the other hounded mom for money. Ahh great memories. It was a circus surprise. I was a big fan of circus surprise, nutty buddies, and chocolate eclairs, too. They were some of the best days ever.

We have one that comes around every night however it never comes down my street! The last street it hits is the one next to us. Drives me nuts. Some times DS and I are running down the block to catch him. I guess we're working off the ice cream before we're eating it. ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png)

As a child we had ice cream trucks. I would get a "push-up" which was orange sherbert in a cardboard wrapper that you had to push - up with the plastic stick to eat. We used to meet the ice cream truck all the time until the incident. My sister went to hand me my ice cream and asked "do you really want it?" and of course I said yes so she shoved it in my face. The stick poked me in the eye and I had to go to the emergency room. No permanent damage but ended our ice cream truck adventures.
Not many ice cream trucks around where I live now. Most communities are gated and there are not really any neighborhoods. It is kind of sad.

My DH, who is 50+ and diabetic, will go running out of the house and down to the curb at the first hint that the ice cream truck is around. Seriously! He just loves the memories of getting ice cream when he was a child. He will gladly buy for almost everyone who shows up when he does, just so the truck will come back. The funny thing is, he only eats a bite or two of whatever he buys; being diabetic, he just can't handle the sugar. To him, it's all about the memories. Marcy Marcy, How awesome that your husband treats for others and that you don't complain to him about it. He is helping create happy, lifelong memories for these people. Thanks for sharing.

We have one that comes about every other day. If DH grits ice cream he usually buys for any of the kids that are out too. I just wish ours would stop with the christmas music, that drives me nuts. Your husband is a sweetie. Ah, happy summer memories.

Actually that might not be such a good idea, sometimes you really should just skip the ice cream truck .

We used to have one that would come through our neighborhood. The guy quit coming when the idiot kid across the steet and next store tossed eggs at the truck. Well, now the kid across the street has longed moved away and the neighbor kid has just moved. So, I kinda wish one would come back!

Yes we do here (Long Island, NY). Mister Softee comes around a few times a week. A few years ago, he saw my dogs by the fence and gave them a free ice cream. Ever since then, as soon as my dogs hear the music, they start to cry for ice cream. Soooo funny ! Just like kids !

We do! We have the ice cream truck that sells the pre-packaged ice cream (Strawberry Shortcake, Chocolate Eclair, etc) and then we have Mr. Softee who drives around soft-serve. Yum!

We do not have ice cream trucks around here but we have a snowball truck that comes to the pool all the time. I make sure to go out with my kids because the snowball guy kind of sleeves me out.
when I was little I loved the bars that had a hard chocolate piece inside. I loved that cold crunch!

Daily here, sometimes twice a day. It's been easier to ignore with the house closed up and ac on versus windows open and my son excited several times a day, every day.

Ah, childhood memories. We did not get that treat very often (there were 6 of us). But every now and then our parents would let us indulge. I used to get different ones depending on my mood, but one of my favorites was the strawberry shortcake. My youngest brother however had it almost daily!. As soon as he heard it he would run out of the house yelling STOP! to the truck driver. Then he would run back in the house for money. He must have been one of their most faithful customers because after a while, the truck would just stop in front of our house to wait for him. On the occasions he was not home, we had to come out and tell the driver he wasn't home so he could continue on his route ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/OrTI4SBmZ2ZYSFv6ag4f.jpg)

growing up there was one that came by in the afternoon after school. sometimes our mom let us have an ice cream. when our daughter was growing up there wasn't really an ice cream truck. However, there are several ice cream/yogurt places within a mile or two of our house. it's morning and I want some!!!

We live out of the village so no, no truck here. Whenever I hear one it does bring back fond childhood memories though. I used to love the Mr Whippy (soft ice cream), 99's (with flake) and screwballs (icecream in a plastic tub with a bubble gum at the bottom).

We used to have one that would come once a week. Terry, who owns the truck, turned it into a waffle truck and now only goes to festivals and special events.

We recently moved to a new neighborhood and this thread has made me realize that there is no ice cream truck! Hmmm.

There's one in my neighborhood, but it comes to the street behind our house. It's like he's taunting the kids. They hear the music and get excited and nothing. He never comes on our street.

We have one that occasionally comes through the neighborhood. I remember when I was young, the neighbor lady wouldn't let her kids get anything from the ice cream truck. She always told them that only kidnappers and pedophiles drove ice cream trucks! IMO she was a little nutso herself. I felt sorry for them at times and I would talk my mom into buying extra so I could share.

We had an ice cream truck that came around almost every night when I was a kid but my mom never had money for us to get any. It was the Chilly Willy ice cream truck. We did have a small candy store around the corner and when she had some spare change we got to go there for ice cream or penny candy.
Now Pepe's is the only ice cream truck in our area. He goes to 5 or 6 different towns though so he only comes here once a week. He doesn't come down our street but when we are at the park in the next town over he always comes by there. We must go to the park on the same night every week because I know he has a schedule of which town he goes to each night so people know when to listen for him.
My favorite was Chief Crunch which is a strawberry shortcake ice cream. The ones they make now aren't as good.

Absolutely! When my kids were young he came by right at the end of nap time. If the kids got up early they knew to play quietly in their rooms until they heard the song from the truck playing. They would almost shiver from the excitement of giving the owner their quarters for their fudge bar or Popsicle. We often recall those days with fond memories.

We have one come through our neighbourhood every so often. I never have cash though. He came by a couple weeks ago and DS was running back and forth between the truck and the house and he was waiting. I felt so badly. ![:(](//storage.proboards.com/5645536/images/mYSUyHtG9Jrcmm_ydVcK.jpg) And it is totally overpriced!! Like $5!!!

Grrr....yes the effing ice cream man comes to our neighborhood every single freaking day. In fact, we have 2. And the play freaking Christmas music!!!! They are sketchy as all get out. But the people across the street eat at the truck every single day. One day the kids didn't pop out of the house when he came by. So he slowed way down, and then stopped right in front of their house with his shitty music blasting and whipped out his phone and called them to come outside. He has done that on multiple occasions. Can you tell that I hate the ice cream man? ![???](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/huh.png)

We have a regular "white people" (haha) truck that comes a few times a week. Then we have the push cart lady, ringing those lovely little bells, with her cart full of paletas/helados. There's also a truck that comes by selling soft serve, elotes and mangoes. Recently, a guy has been walking the neighbourhood with a huge pegboard of cotton candy. It's like a weird Mexican circus.

It didn't come around often enough at my house growing up, so it was a real treat when it did.
It shows up here fairly often. Music seems to have gotten a little creepy over the years.
My favorite was anything that was blue.

Interesting!! I haven't heard one all season - though we have plenty of those freeze/snow cone stands around, I guess those are the new "ice cream man."

There used to be a legitimate truck that came to the pool when we were kids. Now that I live across the country, this kidnapper van cones down the street blaring hello and paying creepy music, no thank you. I love ice cream novelties so I generally stock them in the freezer for consumption whenever, so no need to go out to that sketchy van, I mean seriously it's a regular van with some crooked stickers and they drive slowly with the door open....total kidnapper van!
