By the time I find something that is $4.20, I could have driving to the store and back!

😂
If I can’t get it locally, I do spend lots of time trying to find free shipping. I also balance it out with the lowest price I can find too. I’ll find something for $10, with free shipping but see it elsewhere for $4.99+$5 shipping. And I spent 30 minutes looking. 😂

I was on a home decorating site and bought lamp shades. I was less than $1.00 away from free shipping. DH suggested I go to the clearance section and buy the first thing that met the amount I needed. I sorted by "Price: Low to High" and I bought a small piece of tile for $1.07. As soon as it got here it went into the donate box.

I ended up with a couple of mini Xmas stockings earlier this year from Kohls with my dogs' initials.

I do the clearance thing as well. I have one drawer where I keep little bits and bobs that sometimes make into gift baskets or stockings, and that's where I put those items if I can't use them personally.
If I happen to come across a cute or useful inexpensive item on a site I frequent, I'll put it into the "save for later" section of my cart, or favorite it, then if it's still available I can just grab that if I ever need a few dollars to get my free shipping.

Guilty of spending too much time on that as well. It's the amount extra I'll spend sometimes to get free shipping that makes no sense either. Who started the free shipping thing and why are we so addicted to it?

Gas, dealing with idiots on the road, standing in line for ages since nowhere seems to have cashiers anymore, etc. It's usually well worth the time I spend finding something to add to an order.

None. I refuse to spend time looking for something that costs $1.283.

Looking for an item I don't need to bring me up to the level for free shipping? Almost none. I do have a Chrome extension from Capital One that will run through a bunch of codes and often one will pop up for free shipping, but that's as much work as I'm willing to do.
Otherwise I will postpone the purchase until free shipping is available, or just eat the cost.

When I shop on Amazon, 99% of the orders offer free shipping if I am willing to wait a week for the item. It is very rare for me to pay for shipping through Amazon.

If I don’t need something right away I’ll wait until the site has a day of free shipping. If I am close to the free shipping amount, I will add a pair of socks or underwear to my order. A couple weeks ago I wanted a couple dresses from Lands End and I decided to do a little Xmas shopping to get me to the free shipping amount. I hate paying for shipping.

I always try for free shipping, but I am willing to pay a reasonable shipping fee in order to avoid driving to the store, finding what I want and hoping it's in stock, checking out, and driving home.
My time is currently my most precious commodity. I guard it like it's gold.

I know what stores offer free shipping on the regular and which do not. But then again, I don't shop at stores like Kohl's or Macy's where they tend to play games with sales and shipping.

I order 99% from Amazon and I have Prime so it's always free shipping. The other store I order from is Old Navy and 3 items will usually bring me up to their $50 minimum for free shipping. I usually buy an extra t shirt or something to get it up to that point.

I’ll spend a moderate amount of time to get something shipped for free, especially if the shipping charge is more than $5. Say I’m buying something like a pair of Crocs that is on sale for 30% off and the regular price is $49.99. Free shipping kicks in at $50 purchase. The sale price is $34.99, but the shipping charge is something like $8.95. If I just go ahead and pay the shipping charge, my 30% discount just shrank to 12%, and if the discount is that low I normally wouldn’t even bother looking at the item. So to me it’s worth it to find something else I can use for the $15 difference to get the items shipped for free. If I can’t find something else I want, I just wait or look for the same item elsewhere.
I play the game at Target too when they have their Buy XX Get XX deals, where you have to spend $90 to get a $20 Target Circle credit, or where you have to buy so much of something to get a $10-15 gift card free. I go through and add up what I’m spending because if buying that one extra pack of Oreos will get me a $10 gift card, it’s really like getting a $5 gift card and the Oreos for free. It’s typically stuff we’re going to use anyway at some point, plus the items are usually already on sale too. Then I take all of those $5-10-15 gift cards and buy myself something really nice and particularly frivolous around Christmastime, LOL, totally guilt free.
Same with Kohl’s Cash, I’ve made that into a game of What Can I Get For Free Today? I’ve gotten so many really nice things off the clearance shelf or rack for free or almost free that it’s not even funny.
ETA: I recently broke the lid for my Tervis tumbler. The replacement lid was something like $3.99 and the shipping was another $3 or so. I spent a couple minutes looking around the site to see what else I could get to qualify for free shipping. Looked on Amazon for the lid but would have to spend $20 on a pack of four there, nah, don’t need four and the rest would sit in a drawer. So I coughed up the shipping and just paid it, knowing I couldn’t just go to a local store to buy the replacement. In that case, the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze.
