I’m currently reading the book. Is the guy’s name Ryle rhymes with Kyle or Ryle rhymes with Riley? I keep reading it Ryle rhymes with Kyle (which I’ve never heard that name in my life so it always makes me pause) but if it was supposed to be pronounced Riley I wish she had just written it like that. Just wondering

I had that same question when reading the book and I’m not going to watch the movie so I’m glad you asked. I assumed it was like Riley

I haven't read the book or seen the movie, but if I were reading the book, I would be reading that name as Ryle rhymes with Kyle.

I read the book but haven't seen the movie. I hate it when I'm reading a book and I don't know how one of the main character names is pronounced. This was one of those books. I usually just freeze over it for a second whenever I see it and then move on. And it annoys me because in my mind I don't have a name for them.

Ryle like Kyle. It's a stupid name that just pulled me out of the story every time I read it. I started just pronouncing it as Riley because I couldn't take it anymore. I thought it was a terrible book though so that doesn't help.

As someone who put it in the recycling bin after reading the words 'marine grade polymer' more times than was necessary I was pronouncing it Ryle. I wonder if it was somehow a play on the word rile or riled because he was turbulent and muddy and also annoyed and angry a lot of the time. I didn't read the whole book but I've watched videos on YouTube about it.

LOL.

She uses weird made up names, what I call "soap opera" names, and they are extremely distracting to me. I mean, Verity? Come on..

It means "truth" and was a character in the Poldark books. I like it.

It came from the time people were called Patience, Prudence, Charity, Grace, etc. Doing genealogy, I've seen some really interesting virtue names. It reminds me of the Tiffany problem, however. Tiffany was a real name in the middle ages. Authors can never name a historic character Tiffany, however, because people think it is a modern name.

I still stand by my dislike of the names Hoover chooses for her characters.
