DH and I have had the same can opener for our entire married life (25 years) and I've gone through two in a year trying to replace it. One was a store brand cheap one that lasted maybe 2-3 months, and the second was a Kitchenaid (which has the highest rating on Amazon.) I bought it in July and it now barely works. I just opened half a tuna can and had to pry the rest of the lid open with a fork...
So, if you have a manual can opener recommendation, I'd love one! I really miss Old Faithful the OG can opener...

I have a Swing-A-Way wall mounted can opener that came with my 1964 ranch. The elderly lady I bought the house from had it the entire time she lived here. It was mounted on the cabinet next to the sink when I bought this place in 2016 and I loved it so much I took it with me when I moved in 2019, again in 2021, and then brought it back in 2023 when I moved back in and remounted it in the original spot. lol I love this thing so much I even bring it with me if I'm going on a vacation where I know I'll be cooking and might need a can opener. There was a second one mounted in my laundry room when I moved in but I gave it to my mom. She hasn't used it so I'm going to go reclaim it soon. This brand is seriously the best I've ever used!!

I have an OXO easy grip, manual can opener. It’s been working great for me and I definitely need all the help I can get.
eta ~ I just checked the actual name of mine because I read seaexplore reply. Mine is not like the one she linked. Mine is OXO good grips. Mine works great for me and I don’t have much strength.

I have used an OXO good grips smooth-edge can opener for years with no real issues and I like the smooth edge.
About a year ago I was unable to get an tunafish can to open and thought that my can opener (which was older) had just stopped cutting. So I went out and purchased a new one (but the same one) and still could not get my tuna can(s) open. I even tried a couple of different cans because it didn’t seem possible that the new can opener wasn’t working either. I ended getting a cheap couple of dollars one just to get my tuna opened. I then tried both of my can openers on other cans and both worked. 😂. I am going with the conspiracy theory that it is something with the Tuna cans. Good luck, I hope you can find one you like.
ETA - I just saw seaexplore’s comment and would say it does have a learning curve but I agree it seems to now have issues with tuna cans so I would not totally recommend it. 😄
Edited to edit my ETA - I did just look at the link in seaexplore’s post (after reading quinlove’s response) and mine is NOT the one she linked.

It is absolutely the cans- every time I try to open a can of tomato paste, the can bends and it is very hard to open- never had that issue until tje last year or so. Same with tuna cans.

littlemama - I was so glad to see your post and to know it isn’t just me. I don’t have to open a lot of cans (mostly tuna and tomato products) but I swear the new ones that I am purchasing really have been giving me a lot of issues.

It isn't just not opening tuna cans, it's all cans, the tuna one was just the last straw.

I just have a kitchen aide manual hand one . Works great. I tried the OXO brand and for whatever reason, I struggled to open cans. So I went back to the kitchen aide can opener and it works easily.

Speaking of cans, a while back I went to open a can of Campbell Tomato Soup. I had just purchased it, it had the pull top opening. Yep, I pulled the little tab completely off. Without opening the can at all. And the way the can is made, my handy dandy opener would not even fit to try to open it. I had something else for lunch.

I have one like this too, same idea, but it is Kuhn brand. Got it on Amazon. I got so tired of buying can openers - even the Oxo ones didn’t last long or were hard to use. As mentioned, this one does have a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it, it’s so easy and smooth! And no sharp edges. Best one I’ve owned.

Cutco.
I don’t love all my Cutco knives (I really only like the serrated ones) but, the can opener and vegetable peeler are amazing.

My parents house has one mounted in “the cellar way” at the top of the stairs. It’s been going strong since my parents moved in in the late 80’s. Goodness knows how long it was there before they moved in… FWIW.. my mom is a total “homemade” kinda cook. She bought it at the store, opened the can, and heated it up, making it… at home. One of her favorite jokes. Anyway, I’m sure if there were a Guinness book of world records for cans opened.. this one is a contender! My grandmother had one mounted in her kitchen… it’s in photos from the early 60’s…. I don’t remember it having a brand on it, and it looks a little different than mom’s…. Anyway… that was a highly desirable item among the family when she moved out of her house. I don’t even remember who ended up with it anymore. Enjoy it!!
