I'm in Chicago Should I steal Lourdes' identity or use it in a found object art piece? What would you do with it? It's damp and dirty. It was on the corner of Jackson and State. Much foot traffic.
Be clear, I'm not going out of my way to do anything responsible with it other than, well, not stealing their identity.
IDK what you're supposed to do with such a thing. I have no idea where a SS office is and in any case am not standing in a line to give it to someone rude who doesn't give a shit in the first place, which long experience tells me is exactly what I'd get for my trouble (I'm no stranger to this town).

I would just mail it to the SSA. I think there is an address on the back.

Adding: Google reviews confirm all my suspicions, plus I have to have an appt to get to the window.
Poor Lourdes.

Wondering if SSA would even reach out to Lourdes if you gave them her card. I'd say go ahead and decoupage it to something fun.

Take it to the nearest police station.

Not gonna lie - other than not stealing her identity (and let's be real, that's a huge gift to her), I probably wouldn't do anything with it. I know, I know - I should turn it in to the SSA but I mostly likely wouldn't bother.

When was the last time you were required to show your SS card. I have been asked for my number (I don't remember why), but never asked to show my card. I seem to remember you're not supposed to carry your card on your person.
Why do snails move so slow? Because they have both male and female parts. One-half won't ask for directions and the other doesn't know where they're going.

I found two driver's licenses in the past. Both times I looked them up on social media and got it back to them. Those things are such a hassle to replace. Not sure how to go about returning a SS card.

Now that it is dry I can barely make out an address to return to if found, in Baltimore MD.
I still think maybe Lourdes is going to go in with other ephemera in a project. But we'll see, I do have stamps and envelopes at home.
I'm unsure of the likelihood of it ever getting back to her from MD.
She never signed it, either. I hope she doesn't need it for a job application or something.

You know, to guarantee no one else gets ahold of it and abuses her identity. LOL

I’d mail it to the local police station. For the price of one postage stamp, maybe it will get back to her, maybe not, but those things are a PITA to replace so I would go that far.

The research analyst in me would search for the person's name and see if I could locate them and do whatever it takes to return it to said person. If I could not find the person, I would probably mail to my locale SS office.

Take it to the nearest police station. Absolutely not happening Chicago PD: SS Card Division The episode where I stand in line to be treated rudely AND laughed at This reminds me of the episode where I returned $10 to the customer service kiosk at the mall. I mean, yeah, chances are good a lot of people wouldn't put a lot of work into finding a missing $10, BUT, if it was a kid or someone in a tight spot who dropped $10, I want to be the one who brought that money someplace they could find it. The cust. serv. associate looked at me as if no one had turned in found cash ever.

I wouldn’t want to risk giving something like that to the wrong person, and the police have a lot more resources to find them so I’d let them do the research. I’d also ask myself, “If I lost my Social Security card, what would I want someone finding it to do with it?” I don’t think I would want someone digging around online to find me. I would want them to send it to either the police or the SSA. But that’s just me. 🤷🏻♀️

I found a wallet at the dog park and found the person on Facebook. But I live in a relatively small town. If that isn’t possible I would probably just shred it and toss it. You can get a new copy really easily.

We have to present ours to get the DL renewed. DH has had his since 1954 and it looks pretty bad. I went online and completed the paperwork to get a new one issued. It came in about 10 days. If the person who lost it goes online he/she could get it replaced.
If I were you, I'd either take it to the police station or mail it to SS administration.

A Facebook search would definitely not work with this name in a town this size.
I doubt police would want to spend the time either.
Plus, what if this card is already stolen? I thought about that.
I think Lourdes will have to apply for a new one using the proper channels, if they're legit. It will have a new home: my junk drawer where spare things to be used in future art projects lands.
