That thread reminded me of one time when I had my eldest and my niece, both young at the time, maybe 3 and 4 years old, at the grocery store. In the check-out line, my niece picked up a wad of folded bills, and handed it to me, saying she found it. It was $50, and so after we checked out, we brought it over to customer service to hand it in. And I told my niece what a good job she did in handing it in. A few weeks later, we're back at the store, only it's my eldest (3) who finds 2 pennies on the floor and is absolutely insistent that we bring it to the cust. serv. desk. So we did. But I did share the story of the $50 with the woman at the desk so she understood why we were being so darn weird.

I found $60 rolling across the street once. That was pretty exciting. But there was no one else around at all so my dog and I rescued it for ourselves.

I found a $50 bill on the floor on the customer side of the cashwrap when I was a teenager working retail. I turned it in to my boss who kept it in an envelope for two weeks. When no one had called to claim it by then, he gave it to me. It was a huge score for a broke high school kid!
On a related note, DD said she saw a $100 bill folded up on the steps at school. She said she left it there in case the person who lost it went back looking for it. 🤦🏻♀️ I told her she should have picked it up and turned it in to the office and she said, “Why?” 🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️ Um, because do you really think the NEXT kid who sees it laying there on the floor is going to turn it in, or pick it up and keep it? 🤪 She said she was worried it was some kind of internet prank. 🤦🏻♀️ 🙄

DH found $100 bill on the street during his morning walk. We kept it.
When I was in college, everyone was on a strained budget. I was walking from the post office to my dorm and found $20 on the sidewalk. It was a lot of money in those days. I picked it up and eventually met up with a girl who was walking and looking frantically around as she walked. I asked her what she was looking for--and it was the $20. I gave it back to her and she was ecstatic.

Something similar happened with a friend - we were trying to a cab and saw a hundred dollar bill on the street. No one was around so it paid for our night out and then some.

We found a ticket for $100 in a slot machine at the casino. We were waiting for that machine and when the elderly ladies left, they forgot to take their ticket to cash out. We looked around for them for about an hour and then decided to keep it.

Yeah, if I found money outside, unless I saw someone actively looking for it, or it was a tremendous amount, or in a very specific spot, I would keep it too.
That's never happened to me, but my mom has a friend who finds money when taking walks fairly frequently. I think the most she ever found at once was a twenty.

I went to NYC with a boyfriend in college. We were walking through Times Square and he found a $100 bill on the sidewalk. An apparently homeless man told him to pick it up. This was 1983.

I've only found money in my dryer. I keep it every time!!! Ha ha ha! Same here. The Laundry Fairy usually only finds a handful of coins, but once she found a curled up $50. What happens in the laundry stays in the laundry! 🤣

I found about $50 in a parking lot puddle once. No one was around, so I became that much richer.
