That's like comparing apples and oranges.
Boxed mac and cheese is a fine, quick side dish that goes with certain meals, hotdogs, hamburgers, and in my house, salmon croquettes
It is a food law that salmon croquettes requires two side diahes: boxed mac and cheese and canned green peas. Don't blame me, that law was handed down by my mother, and I am not a lawbreaker.
On the other hand, my homemade mac and cheese is a food group into itself. It is the star of the meal. It may not be the main dish, but it could be. Plus, it is better than anything else on the plate.

I voted must be homemade, but there is a time and place for the boxed stuff (Kraft will never be my top choice for boxed). I grew up on the boxed stuff, but once I had homemade, it will always be my preference.

While the blue box has it's place in crappy comfort food, nothing beats my mother's homemade mac-n-cheese. Yummy.

For a quick lunch fix? Boxed KD is great.
But for dinner or a family function? Only homemade - Pioneer Woman recipe - will do!

I prefer homemade mac-n-cheese. However, every once in awhile I have a craving for Kraft. When I am doing intermittent fasting the cups are usually my go to lunch because it is just a little less than half of the daily calories, its a weird comfort food and it gets me by until dinner.

Like Stove Top and jarred gravy, Kraft Mac and Cheese has a place, but I dont consider any of those to be even close to homemade.

Boxed mac & cheese with powdered cheese is my least favorite, BUT if I'm really wanting mac & cheese, and that's what's available, I won't be turning my nose up at it.

I don’t dislike Mac and cheese, but I don’t care if I ever eat it again.

Confession: Mac and cheese was the dish served when no one wanted to cook or we had no other food in the house. I have never served it to guests. No one in my family of origin serves it at a holiday meal.
From this board I know other people don't see it the way I do.

They serve 2 different purposes to me. I don't know if that makes any sense, though!

They’re two different things to me, so both have their place.

Mac n cheese - ok in all forms - but I can only eat gluten free now.
‘Best’ processed cheese powder is Hoosier hill farm Cheddar cheese powder.

It depends on my mood. I absolutely love homemade mac & cheese, but there are days when Kraft just hits different, as my daughter would say, lol. I had Kraft for lunch today.

I grew up on Kraft Mac & Cheese and honestly never had anything else until I was a young adult. Lately though, it doesn’t seem the same, it doesn’t mix as well, the color is different & it tastes different than it used to. I still like it though. I seldom make it from scratch, just too much work.

I’ve spent many years trying to find a recipe for homemade mac & cheese that I like as much as Kraft blue box (the one with the tin of cheese sauce, not the powder!). Most of them have been disappointing considering how much it costs compared to the boxed version. I finally found a recipe I like, but the good old blue box will always hold a special place in my heart - and my pantry - for when I just CBF cooking from scratch!

We used to be Kraft people, when the kids were small. Now if we have it all, it is homemade. But it is the rare occasion as dairy bothers both me and my DD. She makes a mean dish of it though.

For just a regular old weeknight dinner, blue box is fine, but if I’m putting in effort or it’s a get together only homemade.

Oprah ~ I can’t remember the last time that I ate macaroni and cheese. In fact, I’m so far removed from it, I’ve never referred to it as mac and cheese. I don’t hate it, but don’t care for it that much.

Do not care for what people refer to as macaroni and cheese. Never had traditional macaroni and cheese when I was growing up. Tried it as an adult, frozen, packaged and homemade, just not a fan.
What I always refer to as macaroni and cheese is the following; macaroni, cottage cheese, sour cream, egg with cinnamon and sugar. All mixed together and cooked on the stove top until hot and the cottage cheese is stringy. Sounds gross but really good.

Most of the time I actually prefer Kraft, unless it is from a restaurant. Homemade mac and cheese often times just has no flavor and way too many calories, IMO.
