Good morning.
Today is a big day and I know that many of us have strong opinions about things, but can we please agree to keep politics out of the thread? It's in the interest of keeping our little thread a safe haven for all. I hope it's OK that I made this request.
I finally feel human. Now I just feel hungover. I'll be knitting and puttering today.
What's everyone up to today?
Dinner is beans a'la charra and cornbread for dh.
What's on your menu?
leannec, how are you feeling. I'm worried about you.
**GypsyGirl**, how are things going at the SNF? I hope things are improving.
May today be calm, hopeful and happy for all!

leannec, how are you feeling. I'm worried about you. I am "surviving". I worked yesterday and that was probably a mistake because I feel really yucky today ... definitely did not pick up a job for today ... The fact that it is snowing out also made that decision easy! I'm sure the antibiotics are working but they are certainly taking their time! I have one errand to run once the snow stops and the rest of the day will be spent trying to feel better! I'll pick up something for dinner when I'm out ... I'm happy to hear that you are feeling more normal now scrapmaven!

Happy Election Day! Woke up to a stormy front coming through so decided to sleep through it. This is supposed to bring in cooler weather, fingers crossed. Going to vote this morning, then need to run a few errands and stop at the grocery store. Will spend the afternoon with DH. With the earlier sunset, I try to get out of there between 4 and 5 to be home before dark. Will probably work in my sewing room some tonight - trying to figure out where to squeeze in all those pretty new fat quarters I bought! Once again no clue about dinner. There is spaghetti sauce in the freezer so it may be that - or something else yummy from the freezer. **GypsyGirl**, how are things going at the SNF? I hope things are improving. He is pleased with the PT he is receiving there. Yesterday she rolled him between the parallel bars and got him to stand. He managed to get up for about 10 seconds. A week ago they tried and he couldn't do it so he is definitely progressing. I spoke with his internist yesterday and he feels the SNF is the best option for all of us, but advised that we hire a private nurse to administer his meds and other needs he might have during the day. So today's objective is to find one.

Sending healing thoughts to those who need them and hoping things turn around quickly.
I'm off today so I'm getting ready to take my parents to breakfast. After that I need to put away clothes and get the house in order.
Dinner tonight will probably be pizza and I'll probably go over to my sister's to watch the election returns although I doublt we'll know anything tonight.
Hope you all have a great day!

Good morning everyone. I had a busy morning. Went for blood work. 9 vials!!! I have never had so much blood taken. Results are slowly rolling in. So far nothing weird. Then I went for breakfast. And then I went to vote. I stopped at the market and picked up some stuff. Maybe burritos for dinner.
I'm sitting outside in the parking lot while two little ladies I drove here are inside voting. There really isn't a lot of driving to be done. A lot of people took advantage of our newer mail in and early voting. So I won't be out long.
I found a set of fiesta popcorn bowls on marketplace. If they are in good condition, I'm going to buy them. And then I'll be home for Jeremy to entertain me.😂

Tearisci , you must do one fun thing today. You know you wanna... leannec , I'm sorry that you're still feeling so poorly. You need to rest and pamper yourself. Take good, loving care of yourself. **GypsyGirl** , if you look on your insurance website you'll find covered nursing care. If Coram is covered I highly recommend them. 3 Coram nurses have saved my life. They're national and owned by CVS Healthcare. That you have to do this makes me angry at the SNF for not offering proper nursing care.
jeremysgirl, may your labs give you answers that show that you don't have anything more serious. Did your ANA test come back, yet? That can be an indicator of AI diseases or just a false result.

Happy Tuesday dinner friends! scrapmaven Thank you for helping to keep politics out of this thread. One thing I'm sure we CAN all agree on, is that the commercials can finally end! Regardless of opinions, they have been overwhelming lately! scrapmaven I'm glad you are coming back among the living. I hope leannec can join us as well soon. :-) I have a dermatologist appointment in a little while. If work stays quiet, I might stop at TJ Maxx, the puppy has decided to chew a hole in her bed, I've repaired it a few times, but now she is determined to chew on the thicker seam where I repaired it. I have several work items that are in a "holding Pattern" I'm pretty sure they will all break loose at the same time, I'm hoping to keep my calendar clear for the next few days to address these items in case they are "cleared to land" :-) Dinner will be either Ruebens or a rueben casserole and a salad. I'm proud of myself for having everything needed for them in the house at the same time. Wishing everyone a great and peaceful day ahead.

austnscrapaddict, we have cat tape and put it on the furniture, so that they don't play destructo cat. Wonder if something like that will work for your doggie? I'll be right over for a rueben. I'll bring the coleslaw.

scrapmaven I am glad to hear you are finally feeling better. I loves beans and cornbread. DH never thinks it's a full meal. He wants a slice of ham to go with it. Then again, he doesn't really like cornbread. SHOCKED!! leannec I am sorry you are still feeling under the weather. **GypsyGirl** so glad to hear of that progression to standing for your DH. Hope you can find the nurse you need for meds. Tearisci, pizza sounds good. It always sounds good though and then I am let down on the taste. I have had some of the best pizza ever in Nashville and all others get compared to that. And loses. Even my own homemade is not as good. I took out some ground beef to make burritos tonight. Not sure how that will go as I haven't done it before. Tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas? You betcha. I just don't have all the stuffing for a burrito but that is what we are having. I am going to make some walnut mushroom filling for mine and DH will have the regular beef and beans stuff. We will see how those work out. jeremysgirl, hope they left enough blood to function. WOW, that's a lot to take. I am so glad you are helping out with getting people to the polls. austnscrapaddict I adore a good Rueben. Sadly, the only place locally I can get one is Arby's. On their good days, they are great. On their bad days, well, I am unhappy. Have a great day y'all!

naby64 , I can't stand cornbread. It's dry and bland. Odd, because I love corn and bread. Well, folks, looks like we have our discussion for the day. There are two kinds of people on the planet, those who like corn bread and those who don't. Where do you stand?

Good evening, I woke up feeling much better this morning. Not sure if it’s just the natural progression of the bug I caught, or if it’s due to me slathering myself in a natural, herbal version of vaporub before bed! I’m still not 100%, but it’s a big improvement on yesterday. I think I’ll slather myself up again tonight and hope for the best. At least DH isn’t here, so he doesn’t have to put up with it! I didn’t have plans for today, so it’s been another day of knitting with YouTube and Netflix. I’m trying to avoid other social media, as events in the US have taken over and I just don’t have the headspace for it, even though I know it is so important. Dinner tonight will be another serve of the yummy cottage pie I made yesterday. AussieMeg - you asked about the mashed potatoes in a box. Obviously, I’m using a different brand to you - mine is the generic from my supermarket - but we find it fine for the things we use it for, like topping cottage pie and such. It can get a bit gluggy if left to stand for too long, so as a side dish for a casserole or stew, I only prepare it when we’re ready to serve.

My hard drive is making my computer freeze up with increasing regularity. I have a guy who is going *into* my computer remotely to make sure that's all that is going on. If so, I'll buy a new hard drive and he'll swing by and pick up my computer to take to his house. He'll install the new drive and *clone* the old one. All for $50! He's the go-to guy for tech in our area. Dinner will be the Jalapeno Chicken Poppers I didn't get to make the other night because I forgot to thaw the chicken! I love optical illusions! If you see a kneeling man reading a book, look closer.

Can we have a third category - people who have never eaten cornbread?

I am a corn bread with chili person. Of course I make mine into muffins and I use creamed corn for extra moisture. But I will say that even though this is the way I do it, I only discovered corn bread at a soul food restaurant in Chicago when I was a college student. So I really don't think it's a big thing in Michigan.

No, the real quibble comes in with those that DO NOT put sugar in their cornbread and those that do. I cannot be friends with anyone that puts sugar in their cornbread. We are not making cakes here ladies! We should only have an egg, cornmeal(you can cheat and use the SR mix) and choice of milk. Buttermilk is my choice. But sugar? get outta here! Oh, if you want to add some cheese and jalapeño, there is nothing wrong with that.

I went to the University of Chicago right after high school for a year and a half. Then I took a gap year, living there. Then I just packed up one day and took the train home. Enrolled at Michigan State the following semester.

Jalapeños are welcome too. What a shame, naby64. I liked you so much. 😀 I love cornbread with chili. And with bbq. And with ham and bean soup, which is on the plan for this week...so good when it is cold out!

Well, it was good knowing ya jeremysgirl and tmarschall!! I can totally get on board with a honey butter on the cornbread. Also my cornbread is a batter not dough. I will say, I will go ahead and stay friends as my own DD likes a slightly sweet cornbread. Where did I go wrong in my raising of her?!

sueg here ya go! ingredientsUnits: US 2 tablespoons vegetable shortening or 2 tablespoons drippings 1 1⁄2 cups white cornmeal, you can sub yellow cornmeal 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour 1 teaspoon salt 1 teaspoon baking soda 2 cups buttermilk 1 egg directionsPreheat oven to 450°F Place shortening in 9-inch skillet with ovenproof handle or 8-inch square baking pan. Place in oven about 3 minutes. Skillet will be very hot when shortening is melted. While skillet is heating, in large bowl combine corn meal, flour, salt and baking soda; add buttermilk and egg, mixing well. Pour batter into hot prepared skillet. FOR ALL THE LOVE OF SOUTHERN HOLINESS, YOU MUST ONLY USE A CAST IRON SKILLET!! whew! got that off my chest. It's really the best way to get a crispy crust on the outside.
