the creator of Jansport died.

From Shoreline WA (where my dh grew up) Murray McCory entered a contest as a student at the university of washington --he submitted a backpack with an aluminum frame and a nylon bag on the frame.. a big innovation from the wood framed and canvas Trapper Nelson backpack.  He and his girlfriend started a company and a few years down the line, they designed the first school backpacks.. sold them at the UW bookstore and they took off all over the country.  He made many new products, including the first nylon dome tents. (I used one about 5-8 yrs after they were available). 

He did sell jansport in the 1970's. and ended up living in eastern washington, developing rails to trails.  He was 80 yrs old. 

how many of you have used a jansport bookbag?  I remember hauling books in a stack in my arms into high school..
