melanell wanted a fight, let's give her one, lol! For the poll - which do you prefer? For some conversation - which do you have? Do you wish you had? What would be your dream pet, colour or breed? Tell us about your pets. I am cat, cat, 100% cat person. I have an orange fluffball, a tabby and a pure black one. Black wouldn't have been my first choice but he's such a sweet boy, just hard to see his features or get a good picture of him. He's hard to miss though at almost 24 lbs! If I could pick a colour, I'd want an strong contrast orange tabby with a bit or white, or a tabby with lots of markings. The tabby I have is mostly black on his back. I had my Milo (see profile pic and name) and now I have DDs 2 cats because she can't have pets. The black one's name is Stewart and the tabby is Larry. I've dogsat, at my house my mom's and sister's dogs a few times. I rarely will pet a dog. I do think puppies are adorable. I don't like dog owners who tie their dog's outside all the time and let them bark, poor things. Whatever side you are on the joy they bring to our lives is wonderful though, isn't it?

I've had both throughout my life, and I'll pick dog every time. Cats are OK, but they aren't as loving as a dog, they don't climb up my tree and destroy it at the holidays, and they don't need to poop in a pan in my house.
Right now we have a Shiba inu and she's a sweet dog, but of all the dogs I've had in my lifetime, I still miss my Scottish terrier. She has been gone for 8 years and I still miss her. But she was so high maintenance and that huge bark! I don't think I could have another one, but man...what a sweetheart.

I've owned several of both. And I love both. But I prefer to own a cat based on my own experiences. I don't know that there's a breed I wouldn't own.
DH is a dog person and we've talked several times about him getting a dog, but it's not the time right now. We're not really set up for it. We don't currently own any animals because we travel quite a bit, but it's something we talk about from time to time for future plans.

I’m definitely a dog person but we also have two cats, who I like, but don’t get, like I get dogs.

I have 3 rescue dogs who are like having 3 small children again. There's just not a world where I would pick a cat over a dog (sorry!) I don't fully trust cats... Here are some recent pics of my dogs on Halloween. I make all their bandanas (there's a link in my sig line for my Etsy shop. I donate $ back to animal rescue with my sales). My dogs also have their own instagram which is quite active. lol

Puppers!
I've never been a cat person. Nothing against them, they're just not for me.

I currently have 2 dogs: A 150-pound Great Dane named Finn (I have posted pictures here since he was a puppy... he is 3.5 years old now!), and a 35-pound mix (rescue) named Bailey. I love my dogs and Finn is a hysterical, but I am a cat person at heart. My stepdaughter is allergic to cats but once she has moved out and our pups have passed, we plan on getting two kittens, one calico and one orange. My sweet calico, Lilly, passed a few years ago and she was the sweetest cat in the entire world. I miss her terribly. She loved everyone, had so many quirks, and was a cuddle bug. When I worked on scrapbook pages, she would curl up in my lap and sleep for hours, purring away. She was the best.

Up until about eleven years ago I would have said cat. Growing up we lived in the country and my mom is allergic to cats. And my parents didn't want dog fur in the house. So we had outdoor cats and one outdoor dog. I preferred the cats, though I did love the dog (border collie). But big dogs scared me.
Dh and I never wanted a dog but he is mildly allergic to cats so no cats for us. In 2013 our animal loving daughter finally convinced us to get a dog. So we got a shih tzu. And then six years ago we got another. Why? Because we absolutely adore them. We had to put the oldest down a few months ago and it was horrid. Dh says I spoil the other one even more now. But so does he. We'll get another eventually but we aren't ready.
DD prefers cats and finally has a cat, though with dh's allergies, it mostly stays in her room. I love on that cat too! He's the best kitty ever, so cuddly and friendly.

I’m definitely a dog person. Scouty is my best buddy. The photo is from July 4th, but since its Election Day, the patriotic theme seem appropriate.

Dogs!!! We have always had dogs. Pound and found so we've never had a breed that we may have wanted but we had the best dogs.
Call me crazy but I would love a Belgian Mal. I don't have the energy for one and I know they take so much but that wasn't part of the asking. Also, I like the idea of a golden retriever. I don't like the idea of all the hair and fluff that comes along with them.
Since we have been married we have had 7 doggos. American Spitz, Lab mix, Lab mix, Heeler mix, dawg, Catahoula/Husky mix and most likely a pit/shepherd/something mix. She's brindled with a black face but a peanut head compared to the rest of her body. And is the sweetest thing around. My catahoula is the most aloof dog we've ever had.
I will have wanted kittens off and on but didn't know how the dogs would accept them and DH is not a cat person. Which he will need to get over. YDS has a cat and I am sure at some point will bring him home when he makes it home.

Both
I have had one or the other my entire life. Someone said cats are not loving. It depends upon the cat. I have had one aloof cat. Others have been loving. I have had 2 that demanded my attention and petting as soon as I came home from work. The dogs have all been loving.

I was always a cat person my whole life. Until we got a dog. She was with us for 15 years and I was definitely a dog person. Then she went over the Rainbow Bridge. Now I can't imagine ever getting another dog. So now I'd have a cat in a heartbeat if dh didn't think he was allergic to them.

I am a dog person all the way. Cats are great, but dogs are where it is at for me. Currently I have 2 labs - 1 yellow lab, almost 7 years old; 1 charcoal lab that is 4 months old. The puppy is lucky he is cute at the moment....I was a bad puppy mom and fell asleep on the couch last night and he had free reign of the house. Despite all the chew toys surrounding him, he decided to eat a 90 degree angle in our carpet.
ETA - Labs are a dream dog for me. They are just great all around dogs, mild mannered/good natured and fit in well with our family.

LOL, milocat! I actually do not have any pets at all. That being said, I do prefer dogs, but only because I have allergies to cats. I can typically visit a home with a cat, (I just change my clothing as soon as I go home.) but I cannot sleep in a room where a cat spends any time. I have seen the cats available for adoption at Pet Smart when we used to have a goldfish, and I did wish I could give them all a home, though, so I do get how people could be very much cat people. I just can't be one.

When I was young, I loved cats. We always had a cat because I would drag them home. As an adult I have no interest in having a cat because they get hair everywhere, I don't want to deal with a litter box, etc. I love cats. Just don't want to own one.
I never really liked dogs. We got a Maltese dog for our daughters when they were young. He became my dog. We had to put him down about a year and half ago. I still haven't recovered. I don't want another dog because I don't want the responsibility. I may get one when I am much older if my dh dies before I do. He hates pets.

I said dog because I'm violently allergic to cats. Though if I weren't allergic, I think cats and I would get along marvelously.

I have 2 cats and love them, but I wouldn't say "NO" to a Golden Retriever, my favorite type of doggie.

I have a dog. Used to have cats until one of my children developed a significant allergy to them. So now I cuddle others cats when I can.

We have a seven month old golden retriever named Yogi(he was especially fluffy and looked like a bear when he was a pup) and two black cats that we’ve had for 12+ years that hate each other. They’re also not too thrilled about Yogi but I love them all. We have tons of acorns on the ground due to the recent storms so the bears love them. Here’s a photo from this morning of Yogi looking out or window at Yogi! He was about five feet outside our window.

All of my cats were very loving, but so weren't my dogs. So they are even there. But everything else? CATS 100%!

Dog all the way. Not a dog but a DOG. Nothing small and yappy (sorry!). Lab, Shepherd, Retriever, Husky, etc - anything big.
Now I need a puppy cuddle.
