We paid hundreds of dollars to get our lawn in shape and lawn looks much better except for two patches. The people in the neighborhood, who walk their dogs let their dogs pee in the same spot in our yard and subsequently the brown spots. We are in an HOA and I have read the rules and nothing about this. We do not own pets. What is the solution? Any ideas?

There is a delightful product sold at Lowes that will keep them away. There is a liquid version which smells horrific when you first spray it and there are granules. Spray that around and they wont go there any more. Youll have to reapply after it rains until they get the point.

We have a few neighbors in our HOA neighborhood who have cute little yard signs indicating “no dogs” in an inoffensive way. I’ve always made it a point to avoid those yards specifically. I know at least one of those neighbors got their sign on Etsy

Is it possible to put something there temporarily? A bench? A cluster of flower pots? Just something to perhaps move the dogs along out of their usual stopping point?

As I watch the neighborhood dogs each and every male dog pees on the 6" round bases of the light poles. Then the kids come along later and sit on the bases. I cringe, but nothing I can do about it. Doesn't anyone use 'curb your dogs' signs any more? Or do owners not know what the signs mean?

I have no patience for folks who let their dogs walk, pee or poop on my lawn. I would put up signs or motion controlled sprinklers.

I did buy some signs and DH said that I'm not putting them up, but I said, what about for a few days to see if it works? It's a long curve of the sidewalk, next to the street and then our lawn, so no place to put any pots or anything. The dogs walk up about 3-6 feet off the sidewalk and pee in our yard up by the edge of our trim with bark/bushes. I thought about putting the sign right next to sidewalk so the people can see that we don't want a dog peeing in the yard. I'll try the granules, too.

One is an old lady/fairy godmother sign saying something about putting the poop under your pillow if you let your dogs go in their yard.

I don't know. My parents had/have dogs, and even the males were squatters, not leg-lifters, so if you put something in the way, they couldn't squat there.

Typically the expectation in a neighborhood setting is you clean up after your dog. I’ve never been in a neighborhood that has rules against a dog peeing on a lawn. I mean, that’s literally what they are supposed to do. It seems like it would be an extremely difficult thing to enforce and would be one of those things that is just part of choosing to live in a neighborhood rather than on acreage away from others.
I do always try to make our dog pee in the area between the sidewalk and the street, but he sometimes sneaks a little pee on something he wants to mark. I never let him pee on mailboxes or decorations, but sometimes a power box needs to be marked to send a message to his dog friends.

You could try one of these motion activated sprinklers. You'd need to set it so it only activates when something is actually on your property and not on the sidewalk.

Your dog does not need to pee on someone else’s lawn. You have the leash, you are the one in control. I never let my dog walk on someone else’s lawn so they couldn’t pee or poop on it. Let them pee at home or you walk them somewhere else.

I know at least one of those neighbors got their sign on Etsy Do you know, or at least recognize the offenders? You could politely ask them to not let their pets pee on your grass. I know some don't realize the damage the pee causes, and if approached in a light and friendly manner, that might take care of it! I’ve never been in a neighborhood that has rules against a dog peeing on a lawn. I mean, that’s literally what they are supposed to do. NO. NO no no! You should never let your dog pee (or poop) on anyone's lawn. Let them go on yours, but pull them away from peeing/pooping on anyone else's lawn. This is so disrespectful and yuck!

We have lived in four different HOA neighborhoods and I’ve never seen anyone post about dogs peeing on the strip of grass next to the street. There have been posts about people not picking up dog poop (gross) but never about a dog peeing on the grass by the street.
It would be weird to let your dog pee on decorations, landscaping, signs, or other features of someone’s yard, but the actual grass by the street never would have have caused me a second thought-both walking my dog and the many dogs that go by our corner lot everyday.
Learn something new everyday.

I would not be happy with dogs peeing in my yard (except my own) and won't let her do it on someone else's.

It hasn't come up in my life- either through my own thoughts or posts of others on our HOA pages. Perhaps it also hasn't come up in the thoughts of others around you, so they aren't doing it on purpose, just haven't thought about it. Maybe post it if your neighborhood has a page so others think about it. It will definitely be on my mind this afternoon when I walk the dog.

Yes, board members mentioned it as a concern as to why homeowners get a notice for not proper lawn upkeep and if its because of other dogs peeing/pooping in the yard, what can you do? There's no poop in my yard but the consistent peeing causes the brown spots. Why is it ok for a dog to pee wherever? I don't have a pet. Get off my lawn!

Go Away Dog & Cat Repellent are the granules. Repels-All is the spray- it says it is a deer-rabbit-squirrel repellent. Pretty sure it repels everything because it smells AWFUL when you first spray it. Gets better when it dries

There is a big dead spot in my back yard to prove it, and he also loves peeing on the hose reel. 🤮🙄

I am just stunned that ANYONE thinks it's ok for a dog to pee on someone else's lawn!
We have had dogs since 1981. We have a fenced yard and our dog(s) can pee or poop where they want IN OUR YARD. They are also walked every day in all kinds of weather on a leash. The person on the end of the leash controls the dog. That's how a leash works. Our dogs will have a bowel movement or urinate in the street next to the curb. Hence the term "Curb Your Dog" We always, always pick up poop.
Do not let anyone tell you it's too late to train a dog like this. We have adopted all our dogs and they are almost always full grown when we get them. They can learn.
If it were me, I would first speak to the offending pet's owners. If that is not effective, talk to your HOA. Another behavior modification technique is to keep a whistle nearby and blow it HARD when you see a dog start to squat in your yard. A few times startling them (and the owner) will cut down on the problem. Good Luck!

I don’t even let my little 5 lb poodle pee on anyone else’s grass even though it might be a tablespoon at most. The reason being, even in my own yard where ever SHE pees, the 80 lb dog will sniff that right out and pee five gallons right on top of it which is why there’s a huge dead patch of grass in our back yard. Then three hours later, she goes back out there, smells that he peed over her pee, so she pees there again. Lather. Rinse. Repeat, repeat, repeat. I totally get it.
