I work in a public school in an outlier (voted for Trump) city in an otherwise very blue state and county.
We had a group of fifth grade boys taunting girls with shouts of Trump Trump Trump and shouting that Harris is a racist and an anti-semite (black woman with a Jewish husband, make that make sense). Admin told teachers who brought this up that we're "to allow students to express themselves." If I were a parent I would be FURIOUS. Multiple girls were in tears at the harassment.
The high school put out a statement that while free speech is permitted, harassment is not permitted and making students feel unsafe is not allowed. Why has this same message not gone out to our school?
We also have two students who has a close relative who is a cabinet level White House employee. I fear to think what kind of harassment would happen to them if it was found out (they share a last name, so it isn't unlikely).
Activate additional sense of impending doom.

Omg, that’s horrible! And 5th grade boys are not exactly familiar with the term “anti-Semite”, so we know where that’s coming from. 😠

DH mentioned at least 2 incidents at his workplace yesterday with trump supporters harassing those they knew to be Harris supporters.
Which seems all the more reason to try to nip that kind of behavior in the bud at a younger age, to me.

A coworker posted last night that boys are telling girls, "Your body, my choice" at schools "around the country." I haven't asked her where this happened yet.

Some right-wing ass tweeted that yesterday and *that's* the rallying cry our young men have taken up. Please don't tell me that this election had anything to do with the economy.

That is so vile, but unfortunately so many young men are like this. They have seen too much of Trump in their young lives. Thankfully my 23 year old son and his friends are progressive. My son's birthday was on election day. Terrible birthday.

Trump has othered many types of people, like a certain murderous dictator from the 40s. He also had a youth group.
Melanie is smiling. I think they promised her some Eva Braun level fun.
He started the playbook with his 2016 campaign. People are used to it, unfortunately. Don’t even know they have picked up the rhetoric.
Actually, I am more concerned about Trump being Article 25ed and Vance sliding into the presidency. They have hours of video evidence to prove Trump is unfit to be president. Vance will unleash the hell.
Those who fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.
We are doomed.

My sweet, smart, accomplished husband was challenged by a client about his American status. He is Mexican and an American citizen by birth. His family immigrated from Mexico and became citizens legally. He is as much an American citizen as anyone. This is what he has to deal with every day now. Taunting, gloating. He can handle himself, but he shouldn't have to. Attachments:

Even the one who attends a really conservative maritime school. I can commiserate with your son. My birthday is tomorrow. In 2016, Election Day fell on my birthday. Next year, I'm moving my birthday.

My son's birthday was on election day. Terrible birthday. I have four boys. My older two voted for the first time this year (they are 19 and 21). They both voted for Harris, although neither are very invested in politics and just don't really see how it affects them most of the time. We live in an area where it is about 60% conservative and they all seem to have a lot of friends whose parents are Trump supporters so they often take a middle of the road stance, which drives me crazy when we are dealing with Trump. The oldest said that he for sure wouldn't vote for Trump after he was convicted. The other day my 15 year old said he was sorry that Trump won but I do worry about the influence he has had over their lives. I mean, they don't remember any election where Trump wasn't involved and probably don't remember a time when Trump wasn't part of the daily news cycle. It's pretty sad, and I wonder if that is why in some areas voter engagement from young people was lower. They are numb to Trump because it's all they have known.

He has an obviously Hispanic last name, looks like you’d expect, and does speak with an accent. I worry about how he’s going to be treated, and what their two young boys will see and hear. They live in Pennsylvania and my cousin works in immigrant support.
