I bought some beautiful felt last year to make Christmas ornaments, but after finding out I don't much enjoy hand-cutting all the pieces, I'm wondering if any of you have used dies to make ornaments. Laura Evangeline shared a great card a few days ago using Pretty Pink Posh ornament dies and it got me wondering. Tips, tricks, and product recommendations if you have some to share š

Jennifer McGuire used a die on felt in the SSS Gingermas Wonderbox video. The felt came with the die and looked a little thin to me compared to typical craft store felt.

I bought felt from Taylored Expressions a few years ago to cut with their dies. It cut beautifully with their regular dies., but I didnāt try any intricate cuts. I backed it with double sided tape to stabilize while cutting. I also put a piece of wax paper on top to prevent felt dust from sticking to my plates.
I see Spellbinders is selling felt and dies described as ā$twitched felt diesā.

I really like this site: Poshta designs Nichole Spohr has a couple of videos on YouTube using them.

I really like this site: Poshta designs Nichole Spohr has a couple of videos on YouTube using them. Another vote for Poshta designs. Dies make felt anything go so much faster. ETA: depending on your machine, you may need to shim. Iāve found I have to shim black and white but colored felt usually cuts fine without. If you have a metal shim for intricate dies, that works great.

Tagging Ryann since she makes felt ornaments. Also, did y'all know that Spellbinders has some new felt ornament dies? They are also selling felt sets in very yummy colors.

Has anyone tried Sizzix felt? I saw 2 packs at ACOT and it is specifically for die cutting.

If you have a Gemini machine, you should be able to cut felt with almost any die. The Sizzix original and Bigz dies will cut felt. If you have a Cricut Maker, you can use the rotary blade with a fabric mat. I used my Maker and cut some felt Christmas ornaments and stuffed them with batting. I ironed on some vinyl words that I also cut out on the Maker. I gave them out at our Christmas Eve party a few years ago, and they were a big hit.

I love making felt ornaments and use dies the majority of the time. The easiest to work with are dies that have the stitching holes included in the design, but traditional dies work great too.
In addition to the companies listed already (Poshta, Spellbinders) some other ones that have made stitching dies are:
Papertrey Ink Benzie Design Heffy Doodle (they have a stitching tooth plush die) Simon Says Stamp Concord & 9th Honey Bee Stamps (they have a stitching bee die) Ellen Hutson (they only sell on Amazon now) The Stamps of Life Waffle Flower Paper Rose The Stamp Market Pigment Craft Co. Memory Box
I have found that using a metal shim helps to get cleaner cuts for the stitching holes. Some colors are harder to die cut than others. Red tends to give me the biggest issues. I recommend using 100% wool felt (3mm thickness). I typically buy felt from The Felt Pod. I've also used felt from Benzie's and Poshta. Their colors are all very similar, if not identical. My understanding is pure wool felt all comes from the same supplier in Europe.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I have several rolls of Papertrey Ink felt from back when they first introduced it and it does cut beautifully. I forgot about Poshta and see there's some great stuff there. Benzie Designs is where I got my felt last year and see they have an adorable llama stitching die! I'll check the other sites for ones that look like Christmas ornaments.

Poshta is having a 10-20% sale this weekend (Nov 15-18). First time I've ever seen them have a sale.
