I really want to understand - Obamacare helped you but you voted for the person who wants to dismantle it. How does that reconcile? She’s got hers, obviously. Everybody else can take a flying leap. Oh and I’m sure there’s a go fund me in her future too. You know cuz socialism is so bad.

The hypocritical hatred your party spills never ceases to amaze me. The total lack of self awareness never ceases to amaze 'me' but here we are. My Ex-SIL got job training as part of a democratic policy in her state. She took full advantage of it and got a good job. Guess how she votes.

I think the pea's name you're thinking of is CindyShosh or something very similar to that. ETA: I cannot find her account, or one with a similar name, including spelling Cindy with an I at the end. Does anyone recall who we're thinking of. And if so, how she is doing? I hope all is well! The OP has been quite "in your face" about her political stance in the past....in my opinion. I am the Pea you are thinking of that was diagnosed with cancer 2 years ago. Thanks to the Healthcare Marketplace (Obamacare) I have had excellent healthcare at a very affordable price. I am very thankful for that. No, I have not been "in your face" about my political stance in the past. This is the first political thread I have ever been a part of. It is not my nature to share my political views in public. The reason I started this thread was simply to figure out why Republicans weren't speaking out. I understand now. Cindy Wait, what? You took advantage of this program yet will vote against it? Help me understand how that makes sense,

My sincerest hope is that everyone who voted for him will 100% unequivocally suffer under his policies. That they and their families should feel catastrophic effects and look around for who will help them. And there will be no one. This is not my usual character, but I feel so angry at those who voted to have a convicted felon, rapist, predator as the leader of our country. I hope they reap what they sow. The hypocritical hatred your party spills never ceases to amaze me. There seems to be a lot of hatred to go around. I have not heard or seen any/many comments from the Democrats/liberal about how if the ‘correct’ candidate did not win a civil war was needed. That there is some hate, if you want to start a war with your own citizens because you think our country is ‘headed in the wrong direction’. Those comments have mainly seem to come from MAGA supporters and not necessarily true/old school Republicans. And the MAGA supporter are the ones that voted for a felon who has had a lot of hatred for a lot of people for DECADES and has shown it in every speech he has given. So hypocritical hate from the left? 🤷🏻♀️. But oh so much hatred from MAGA supporters. And to not at least acknowledge this is, IMO, also very hypocritical.

keriwest and others, I truly believe there is a difference between MAGA supporters and who they label (with a bit of hatred might I add) RINOs (or old school Republicans in most people’s words). The below quote from my Governor is the response that I expect from true/old school republicans and how I would tell the difference between a Republican and a MAGA supporter. My state’s Republican Governor has consistently been the highest rated Governor…in a state that has elected Bernie Sanders and is considered to be a very very blue state. He is supported by about 70% of our voters no matter their party affiliation. So no matter if you agree with him on everything or not, most Vermonters do feel that he is trying to make things better for all of the people in our state. Just putting this out there as A disclaimer that all of my opinions hinge on this distinction of who I would consider a MAGA supporter and who I would consider a Republican. So while not all Republicans are Trump supporters/MAGA supporters…unfortunately all MAGA supporters are considered Republicans. Sorry so long: Vermont Gov. Phil Scott told reporters he cast his ballot today for Vice President Kamala Harris at the town office in Berlin. “I did some soul searching and thought about a lot of different things — what would benefit Vermont, what I needed to do myself — and came to the conclusion that I had to put country over party, and do the same thing that I did four years ago when I voted for Joe Biden, and vote for Kamala Harris,” Scott said.
Scott said he’s never voted for Donald Trump. In the 2016 presidential election, he wrote in Jim Douglas, the former Republican governor of Vermont, for president. And in 2020, he made national headlines after breaking with his party and voting for Joe Biden. During the primary season this year, he campaigned for former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley. “In my opinion, there’s no one less equipped, no one more incapable of healing the huge divide we have in this country than Donald Trump,” Scott said at a rally for Haley in March. “He’s made a career of throwing fuel on the fire of hate and anger.” This summer, after the debate between Trump and Biden, Scott said he would not be voting for Biden a second time if he remained on the Democratic ticket. “I don't think either candidate should be running for office or are fit for office, but for much different reasons,” he told reporters. Once Harris became the nominee, Scott kept his choice for president to himself until after he voted Tuesday. “I know that Donald Trump, from my standpoint, doesn't have the ability nor the desire to unite our country,” he said. “But does Kamala Harris have that ability? I don't know either. But I do know that she wants to. And she'll try — and that's half the battle."

Was it the guy who suggested putting Liz Cheney in front of a firing squad? Was it not hateful to vote to let women bleed out from lack of healthcare? Isn’t it hateful to accost women trying to use the bathroom and demand to see their genitals?

I am disappointed that only a few Republicans answered my question from my OP. And I a disappointed - but not surprised that this thread became another political debate just like all the others. I didn't ask any Dems for their opinion. I am going back into my little corner now and won't be speaking up anymore. Cindy Hi cindytred Just wanted to pop in and let you know that I am in your corner - both as a Republican and Cancer Survivor. I enjoy 2Peas but avoid all of the Political posts. I know my stance and refuse to get into a battle with strangers on the internet. I do not feel the need to celebrate our victory online much in the same way that I did not feel the need to bemoan our loss in 2020. Either result does not change the fact that I am proud to be an American and will support (not agree with necessarily) and pray for whomever our POTUS might be. Just wanted to let you know that you are not alone here.

I’m dealing with the potential 3rd recurrence of a rare illness that is harmful to all organ systems in the body and will eventually kill me without treatment. So I’ll be sad to see the ACA abolished.

I typed a response, then deleted it. I have been called a RINO(not here), but I never voted for him. I believe I've been a republican longer than him. The folks that are tired of aid to Ukraine, beware Putin---I fear Sarah Palin's actual answer to Charles Gibson-- "They're our next-door neighbors, and you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska, from an island in Alaska." The focus has been put on the social media/entertainment self-serving R members over the issues. I fear the future will have talk of a dynasty or legacy run, rather than giving "upstarts" a chance. I had hoped for a Mitt Romney, Mike Pence, Liz Cheney run with Brian Fitzpatrick or Tony Gonzales. Not interested in talking about politics but just wanted to let you know for your own information, you CAN see Russia from a certain part of Alaska. She never said she could see Russia from her house (lol I think that was SNL and anyway I know where her house is)

Donald Trump won the Presidential election by being voted into office by American citizens. I've been a happy member of this board since 1998 and I find the Dems to be outspoken enough that it "looks like" everyone on this board votes for the Democrat candidate - but I find this hard to believe. I know this board is very diverse (e.i., education, location {rural, city dwellers, countries}, and age). Yet no one is celebrating Trumps victory. 1. Is it because Republicans are more reserved? 2. Are they afraid to be ostracized in this community? As you can see, you have your answer. I voted for Trump, and am beyond happy he won, and won BIG. The American people have spoken, but some cannot accept that. I usually skip the political threads because in the past I have learned that the majority of this board think republicans are evil, uneducated, lack critical thinking, are fools, immoral, etc. They are incapable of reading another’s person opinion (even when they respond with asking a question, nothing you say will change their thinking), without throwing barbs, wishing them ill will, catastrophic effects to their families, or simply a fuck you. I am only commenting because I opened the thread (because of the title), and just to say you are not alone. And now I'm back to reading only non-political threads.

Here is what I don't understand on tariffs. They didn't go away after Trump left. I have 5 invoices from different companies in front of me that I just paid and all have the tariff line item that started when Trump put them in place during his 1st term. There are more than just these 5 companies that have it on their invoice but those are just the ones that were scheduled to be paid today. So why the talk of prices going up once the tariffs hit because they are already there. I think others have already responded, but Trump is talking about new across the board tariffs. They are much higher than ones imposed during his first term. He can impose them with an executive power. Even if he didn't have the power, the conservative Supreme Court, the Republican Senate and the likely Republican House will support him. There will not be any checks or balances. A side note - Trump also has plans to expand executive power. Maybe you think tariffs are not really important and won't affect you. Unfortunately, most economists agree tariffs will likely lead to inflation and affect everyone when the prices on goods goes up. And I'm sorry, but the excuse that Trump talks about a lot of things but won't actually do it is fairly weak. He's been talking about more tariffs, adding Mexico to the list if they don't do something to stop fentanyl from crossing the border. Trump has a fundamental lack of understanding of how tariffs work. He never concedes or admits he was wrong about something, he just doubles down. Remember the hurricane map he drew on with sharpie rather than admit he was wrong? Before the election, companies already started planning to raise prices in anticipation of tariffs. Don't take my word for it, here's what some CEOs are saying www.cbsnews.com/news/trump-victory-china-tariffs-taxes-inflation/Stanley Black & Decker CEO Donald Allan Jr. said last week his tool-producing company has been planning for the possibility of additional tariffs on imports since the spring. "Obviously, coming out of the gate, there would be price increases associated with tariffs that we [would] put into the market."
Allan downplayed the idea of moving manufacturing back to the U.S., saying it would not be cost-effective. The company's options could include "moving production and aspects of the supply chain to different parts of the world," including from China to other parts of Asia and possibly Mexico, the executive said.
Such a shift has already been made by Shelton, Connecticut-based Acme United, which now has its Westcott brand products like rulers made in Thailand and the Philippines, avoiding the tariffs targeting China, CEO Walter Johnsen said in an October earnings call.Acme has switched production of certain medical products to India, Egypt and U.S. plants in Florida, North Carolina and Washington state, the executive said.
Businesses have also stocked up, placing bigger-than-usual import orders ahead of new tariffs taking hold, as the U.S. imported 11% more Chinese products in July and August than they did during the same two-month period a year ago, according to the Census Bureau.www.cnn.com/2024/11/04/business/tariffs-donald-trump-prices/index.htmlPrices will go up. How much and how fast is hard to know, but you can bet your bottom dollar you’ll be needing more dollars to pay for everyday goods if Trump’s sweeping tariffs are put in place.“If we get tariffs, we will pass those tariff costs back to the consumer,” said Philip Daniele, CEO of AutoZone, on an earnings call in September.AutoZone also won’t need to wait until the policies are enacted, Daniele noted. Once they know what the markup will be, “we generally raise prices ahead of that.”This time around, Trump has proposed a 20% tariff across the board on all US imports — something we’ve never seen before — and even steeper duties of 60% against China and other major trading partners. That radical policy could cost the typical middle-income US household more than $2,600 per year, according to research from Peterson Institute for International Economics.www.cnbc.com/2024/11/06/trump-proposed-tariffs-consumer-prices.htmlRetail analysts and trade groups are warning President-elect Donald Trump’s proposed tariff policy could lead to higher prices for consumers.Companies like Five Below, Crocs, Skechers, Amer Sports and American Eagle Outfitters could be forced to raise prices or take profit cuts because of their exposure to China. The CEO of E.l.f. Beauty told CNBC it could raise prices under the proposed hikes, which are far higher than the tariffs Trump imposed during his first presidency.Trump, who NBC News projects won a second term in a decisive victory, said during his presidential campaign that he would impose a 10% to 20% tariff on all imports, including tariffs as high as 60% to 100% for goods from China.Companies, retail trade groups and industry analysts have warned the move could fuel higher prices on a wide range of Americans’ purchases such as sneakers and party supplies.“The adoption of across-the-board tariffs on consumer goods and other non-strategic imports amounts to a tax on American families,” National Retail Federation CEO Matthew Shay said in a statement Wednesday. “It will drive inflation and price increases and will result in job losses.”www.economist.com/the-americas/2024/11/07/donald-trump-is-poised-to-smash-mexico-with-tariffsDonald Trump is poised to smash Mexico with tariffs He has been crystal clear he wants to force the country to do his bidding
Policy commitments made by President-elect Donald Trump often lack precision. Not so on November 4th, the final day of campaigning, at a rally in North Carolina. Mr Trump kicked it off by announcing that one of his first calls as president would be to Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum. “I’m going to inform her, on day one or sooner, that if they don’t stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I am going to immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything they send into the United States of America.” Mr Trump’s policy could not have been much clearer. www.forbes.com/sites/petercohan/2024/11/07/trump-tariffs-could-affect-stock-prices-of-five-below-and-dollar-tree/Higher tariffs could raise prices on many retail goods and services. Here are some examples: Toaster prices rise 25% — from $40 to $50 — the midpoint of the post-tariff ranged between $48 and $52, NRF noted. Running shoe prices increase 23% — from $50 to $61.50 — the midpoint of the range from $59 to $64, according to NRF. Mattress and box spring set price increases 8% — from $2,000 to $2,159 — the midpoint of the range between $2,128 to $2,190, the NRF said. Consumers likely would pay billions of dollars more on a variety of goods:
Apparel: $13.9 billion to $24 billion more; Toys: $8.8 billion to $14.2 billion more; Furniture: $8.5 billion to $13.1 billion more; Household appliances: $6.4 billion to $10.9 billion more; Footwear: $6.4 billion to $10.7 billion more; and Travel goods: $2.2 billion to $3.9 billion more, noted the NRF.Just wanted to add this about tariffs heathercoxrichardson.substack.com/p/november-8-2024Social media has been flooded today with stories of Trump voters who are shocked to learn that tariffs will raise consumer prices as reporters are covering that information. Daniel Laguna of LevelUp warned that Trump’s proposed 60% tariff on Chinese imports could raise the costs of gaming consoles by 40%, so that a PS5 Pro gaming system would cost up to $1,000. One of the old justifications for tariffs was that they would bring factories home, but when the $3 billion shoe company Steve Madden announced yesterday it would reduce its imports from China by half to avoid Trump-promised tariffs, it said it will shift production not to the U.S., but to Cambodia, Vietnam, Mexico, and Brazil.

so maybe we all should be buying land and opening cemeteries.. cause if you gut the public health system on the national and local level, if you continue to take away women's health, if you dismiss vaccines ... then the cemeteries will be in high demand.. as that is what happened before our strong public health system.. people, and esp. children died. from currently preventable disease. who is lining up their kids to die from measles? or from unregulated food supply? or from poor food manufacturing quality control?
and as you take regulations on pollution and coal, etc..that's more people dying from bad air and bad water.
that is the direction the maga people want us to go...death and destruction. you can't dismiss their words as pie in the sky.

You think dems wish you ill but you literally voted for us all to suffer. It wasn’t mean to say I have less rights than a corpse and should be ruled by a sexual assaulter who wants to grab me by the pussy but it’s mean for me to call you out on it. Got it.

so maybe we all should be buying land and opening cemeteries.. cause if you gut the public health system on the national and local level, if you continue to take away women's health, if you dismiss vaccines ... then the cemeteries will be in high demand.. as that is what happened before our strong public health system.. people, and esp. children died. from currently preventable disease. who is lining up their kids to die from measles? or from unregulated food supply? or from poor food manufacturing quality control? and as you take regulations on pollution and coal, etc..that's more people dying from bad air and bad water. that is the direction the maga people want us to go...death and destruction. you can't dismiss their words as pie in the sky. Sorta like the 'for profit' prison system, which is planning to build new prisons for all the undocumented migrants...to house them before deporting them? I like how you think...(TIC). ETA: just want to be clear; I understand fully that the author of the post I quoted and I are on the same side of the argument...
