I had a crusty roll with a softboiled egg for lunch today, and I realised I have eaten this regularly for about 56 years! I never, ever get tired of it. Obviously there are many other foods I enjoy but nothing has been quite as constant as this. Approximately three times a week for 56 years means I’ve had 8,736 rolls with eggs. (You can bet I have the timing down to the second by this point!)
Does anyone else have such a trusty standby that never disappoints?

From my Mom's side of the family, there is a noodle dish. It's elbow noodles, egg and parmesan cheese. We have a name for it, but it's not a real name. My Grandma said it differently and I can't remember her pronunciation. My Mom said that her Dad would make it all the time for dinner (her parents worked split shifts), and she would do the same for me. For years it was my go-to "I don't know what I want to eat" meal, as well as many, many lunches. Unfortunately, I have learned that gluten and dairy trigger my psoriasis so I have had to cut way back on how often I have it. DH is going on a business trip tomorrow, and so I am making it this weekend.

Mine would be homemade taco salad. I could eat it every day.

First off - can you share your timing please? It always feels hit and miss for me even when I think I have it down pat.
Can I say chocolate? 😄
I would maybe say mashed potatoes. We don’t eat it that often these days but sometimes it just hits the spot 😊

Chocolate.
Probably because I was misdiagnosed as being ‘allergic’ to it as a child and could not have it for a good decade or so.
And of course there’s the countless times I’ve eaten a bowl of chili for dinner and not gotten tired of it.

I am currently hooked on vanilla (non-dairy) greek yogurt with granola and fresh blueberries. I eat it anytime of day.

I was allergic to chocolate when I was a kid and had to get weekly shots until I built up an immunity. The first time I had chocolate after that, I didn't really like it. I like it fine now, but I don't really have much of a sweet tooth.

Mac and cheese immediately came to my mind. But not homemade, and not boxed. It has to be the already-prepared kind, like what you find in grocery cold cases. Although my very favorite now is the Panera two-pack from Costco.
Chili, with shredded cheddar cheese sprinkled on top.
An open-faced tuna salad sandwich with sliced tomato on top, toasted. In the old days before toaster ovens I'd just stick it right in the regular oven. Now I use the toaster oven.

Pierogies (potato and cheese, specifically); waffle fries; mushroom and swiss burgers; DH makes a really, really good steak; chicken pad Thai; and my favorite snack trifecta is a really cold can of Coke, pretzels, and frozen Reese's cups.
Now I want all of this right now... 😂

We don’t eat it that often these days but sometimes it just hits the spot 😊 I put the egg into cold water and bring it to the boil. From the moment it hits boiling point, I turn it to a moderate heat and set the timer for 3 minutes and 41 seconds. 😁 That’s for large eggs. 99% of the time the white is set but the yolk is runny.

I took two Vegemite sandwiches to work for lunch on Wednesday. Similar to you and your crusty roll with a softboiled egg Lesley, I have been eating this for probably around 56 years. A Vegemite sandwich is probably one of the first solid foods that Aussie kids eat, once they graduate past pureed food.
There are a few dishes that I first started cooking back in the early 80s when I was a teenager helping out with dinner, that I still cook to this day: Tuna Mornay, Chocolate Self-Saucing Pudding, and Lemon Meringue Pie. The mornay and pudding are from the old Women's Weekly recipe card box. I only kept a couple of recipes from the box, and threw the rest out. I wish I'd kept them all, they're selling for anything from $85 to $300!

My comfort food since I was a kid is chocolate frosting from a can. Betty Crocker with a spoon. Bad days, good days, a few spoons of it will wash the day away.
And my birthday dinner every year is ribeye steak with French fries. I’ll be 50 next time, and you can bet it’s gonna be the best steak ever! 🤣

I have been eating the same breakfast for about 20 years - oatmeal. I vary the things I put in it, but there is always vanilla yogurt on top. Once in a while I change it up and have toast and eggs, but it’s just part of the morning routine.

Fried eggs and Botan rice with sharp cheddar cheese. My go to meal and pretty much been eating it every weekend for at least 35 years.

I was going to say a hard boiled egg, so we're on the same wavelength! I have 3 hard boiled egg whites mid morning every day and I just love them - I look forward to them every morning.

Greek yogurt, honey, blueberries and a date maybe with granola I can happily eat daily. Crackers, cheese (havarti or smoked gouda preferred) and a sliced apple has been a lunch I go back again and again and again for 50 years.

hopemaxIs this carbonara? Or like it? My sister says it js one of the only things her kids will eat. While the ingredients are kinda similar, not really, IMO. But I can see why others might call it that. No meat, different pasta (spaghetti vs elbows), and the ratio of egg to noodle. My family meal is more scrambled eggs macaroni.

Eggs - I have 2 eggs every morning for breakfast and never tire of them. The only exception is if I know I'm going out for lunch in which case I have oatmeal for breakfast and eggs for lunch!

I don't really have any daily choice that I crave.
But my death row meal is my homemade meatloaf (Mama Dip's recipe), mashed potatoes (Yukon gold, skin on, plenty of butter & heavy cream), Sea Island red peas, and homemade chow-chow. It's my most favorite comfort-food meal.

I have an egg and a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast every morning. The only recent exception was a few years ago, during Lent when I decided that instead of going meat-free on Fridays, I'd go ahead and eat vegan. Oh my goodness, not only do I not get bored with my normal breakfast, but I was really irritated every day I had to go without my egg, LOL! I felt hungry, even if I subbed in something else, and I was cranky, and I wanted my gosh-darn egg! So yeah, I have officially reached the age of "I do this every single day and don't you dare try to take it away from me."
