I'm starting to see a lot more talk about the impact of the tariffs. (Where were all these people before the election??!) Twitter is full of posts about them and how people are going to feel when they see what they voted for.
I'm in a wait and see mode. Perhaps people will see early on what they are actually getting with their votes and pressure will mount for him to pull back on his economic agenda. I think the best thing Democrats can do is to line up good candidates for the 2026 mid-terms. Figure out what will truly resonate with voters and be prepared. Presidents often lose their majorities in the mid-terms and if Trump does what he said he would do with deportations and tariffs, the effects will soon be evident in the economy. Apparently some companies are already taking pre-emptive action.
What I can't fathom is why the stock market thinks his election is such a good thing when his plans are forecast by every economist and anyone with an ounce of common sense as bringing back inflation. But then I'm usually wrong on when I think the market will be up or down.

The markets do not like uncertainty 2. Anticipated de-regulation 3. Anticipated corporate tax cuts

It would be ironic if Trump dropped dead before actually becoming president. Yeah, I probably should not have said that out loud. Would Vance not become President-elect then? I think we need to be careful about what we wish for. KWIM?!? The only advantage I see there is that he doesn’t have nearly the same name recognition that dump has and much less of a nationwide cult following. Somehow I think there would suddenly be a frenetic mad scramble among the rats to gain power.

But then I'm usually wrong on when I think the market will be up or down. In a perfect world, he’s a lame duck president from the get go so does he really give a crap what the voters think? The voters were never who he was catering to, they were just the means to an end which was to get him back in. Now that he will be back in, he’s going to do exactly what he wants to do (or whatever the person pulling his puppet strings wants him to do). In a not so perfect world he still doesn’t care because knowing him he won’t go away willingly at the end of his term unless he dies first. I think if the House goes his way they will all have a blank check to go full steam ahead with Project 2025 and push through everything they possibly can in whatever time they have. I really don’t want to know just how much damage can be done in two years, but I’m afraid we’re going to find out.

Nothing is helping at the moment. I keep checking the house races hoping that goes to the Dems so there’s at least some check and balance. I guess I have started to think practically about impacts. My MIL depends solely on social security and grants/benefits to live independently. If social security is gutted, we will have to either make up the difference (which would not be possible without major cutting on our part) or her moving in (which would come with its own cost). We’ve been going back and forth about getting an EV for the tax break and we are going to talk about that more this weekend. I don't expect that existing social security payouts will stop on some date in the next 4 years. Instead, they will institute sunset procedures, like raising the age of collection, and then decreasing paycheck deductions. The plans that have been floated in the past, is immediately raising the start age to 69, and I expect them to stair-step every few years, so no new people become eligible. The plan has usually been to let the current seniors keep it, in exchange for their vote. I don't think these guys want to disrupt that little bargain. Rick Scott floated his 12 step plan that would put those payouts in doubt in people's mind and had to walk it back real quick. There will be a lot more immediate concerns than this one. They have some things they have to accomplish before Americans realize how badly they will be screwed in the future.

My DH and I have always counted on not having it.

One of the keys to getting through this will be to not pre-emptively freak out about the wrong things. I know I want to prepare, and mitigate, but sometimes you just gotta wait, and be prepared to pounce, but based on real situations and not just guesses. I think they've signaled enough the immigration stuff will happen first, just like the Muslim Ban was the first thing in the first term, and if that affects you, start yesterday.

I wonder how much we will actually know about what is going on. We have already seen how newspapers can be silenced by their billionaire owners.

I am still consumed by rage that he will get away with everything, and stands to gain yet again from grifting the US taxpayer. I don’t know why, but the thought of 4 more years of he and his entourage billing the government for his golfing trips to all of his properties infuriates me.
I will be 73 this month, and have been tossing around the possibility of retiring from my lunch lady job, either at the end of the school year or after one more year. But with the potential cuts to SS and Medicare, I am rethinking that possibility. I have also heard that SS could be cut if you are collecting from a pension or retirement account based on what you are collecting. I am doing that and if so, it will make a difference.
The one small hope that I have is that he lies about everything. Maybe some of what he was promising his cult members during the campaign will also prove to be lies formulated to gain votes.
The amount of loathing I harbor for him sometimes scares me, honestly….

I know this is crazy and giving me false up, but people on TT are starting to really ask about the vote, something isn't adding up. THey suspect Elon had somehting to do with it, and there will be an investigation. Also, all the astrologers, mediums, psychics are still saying she was the winner, and that there was a great energy that woke a bunch of people up at 330 (myself included, and I am no medium), that there was some sort of energy. They say something will happen btwn nov 11-15, it has to be so catestrophic that even his side can't deny it. Both those things are giving me huge false hope, but then I saw that Newsome and the gov from Illionois and the AG in New York (I cannot remember her name) are all making preparations, so all I can do is prepare for the worst and hope for the best. honestly, if you know it is crazy then ....>??

I have no hope. Unless Dems find a way to message like Rs do, this is our future. They control all media, funded by oligarchs. Dems have nothing even remotely close. Look at this graphic. We are fucked until this changes. See first 2 graphics then look at the 3rd and weep lol.

I know this thread is a few days old... but just wanted to say that what's keeping me going is reading the sub-reddit 'Leopards Ate My Face' because it's ALREADY loaded with 'oh, I didn't know "that" was going to happen' and you know there's going to be a lot more of it. I guess right now the only positive thing I have is schadenfreude.

Really tempted to print out some stickers/images of Trump's face, draw red clown noses on them, and leave them in public places. Like my own private middle finger...

Unfortunately I started reading Project 2025 yesterday and it put me into a tailspin. My DH has worked for the Federal Govt for 30 years and I'm worried about how this will affect his job and possibly his retirement. My DD is a social worker who just moved out to her first apartment and I'm wondering if she will be moving back home after his lease is up. I had a gathering with some of my bestest friends last night and they all voted for Trump.
I AM BAFFLED AND DON'T KNOW HOW WE GOT HERE!
I keep hearing about all the people who voted for Trump and didn't realize how tariffs work, or people who were all for getting rid of Obamacare but didn't realize that was actually where they get their insurance from.
And I also am not a conspiracy theorist but DAMN...what in the hell is going on with this Elon/Starlink/Big Secret crap?!?
