DSO comments every time we see commercials for this virtual reality system. I’m thinking of getting him one for Christmas. I know nothing about them so I’ve been googling a bit but would love first hand info.
1) There are a variety of sizes - 128, 256 and 512 GB. I think DSO would like to watch Netflix, YouTube, maybe a workout program and some games. Is 128 adequate? What are people needing 512GB for?
2) Something I read mentioned you need to be connected to a gaming PC to use games. Is that correct? He is a Mac user so that would be a no go.
3) Have you found that they are gimmicky or they get a lot of use? We have a home theatre room so I’m not sure what the VR experience would offer that would make him choose to watch this way.
Would love to hear from those who have experience with them.
Thanks!

I have one
it is a stand alone system but you can connect to a laptop for games on STEAM
The Quest 3 which is the latest version is very good as it supports mixed reality which takes the headset to the next level ,
You can get apps for most streaming platforms Netflix Prime etc and you can attend live events hosted by meta Quest Be very carefull as the meta instore games are quite pricey .
As well as gaming or watching stuff You can make music make Art , there are apps for fitness mindfullness & apps for school and virtual office even make your own games if you know how to code , There loads of free apps but most are only trials .
I don't use mine very much thesedays apart from the fitness apps

It is a one size fits all the headstrap is ajustable so there should be no issues as for memory size / capacity it is entirly up too you on how much you want to spend I personally went for the128GB which I found just right for my needs if i need space i just delete apps ( they remain on the headset so you don't lose them ).
I would advise go for 128GB as it is perfect for a new user .
There are are free apps that teach the user how to use the headset which are a lot of fun .
of all the VR systems out there it is the best one for value

I didn’t want to go with the lowest capacity and limit his use but also didn’t want to spend more for something he wouldn’t really need.

My 13 year old has one and we all play on it. We love it, but really only use it for games.
