There used to be a great thread with reviews and suggestions. I thought with the holidays coming up, it might be a great time to resurrect it. Lately, we’ve been enjoying Wingspan and Flamecraft. What have you been playing lately? Alternatively, please post if you need a recommendation.
some of our favorite games Splendor 7 wonders Qwirkle codenames - easy to learn. One side gives clues and the other part of the team guesses which cards. There are different versions, the Disney one is great for kids. The Harry Potter one was a little more challenging, but might be easier if you’ve seen the movies. I’ve read the books and listened to the audio book multiple times.
card games munchkin apples to apples (family friendly version of cards against humanity - great for groups)
dice games qwixx - Yahtzee with a twist tenzi - Each person has 10 dice. There’s a stack of cards that you can use to change up the game.

Codenames is simple and teams don’t even have to be even. People can flux in and out .

Some new hits for us this past year that are not hard to get a hold of (Target or Amazon):
Love Letter. Super easy as there are only 13 cards and some tokens. You have two cards, and use their "powers" I guess you could call it, to try to figure out what cards everyone else has. Very quick game, and easy to learn.
Everdell, you are a cute woodland creature trying to build your city.
Cascadia, there are terrains, and there are animals and you pick one each per turn to build your map, either trying to match terrain, or put animals on your terrain in certain patterns to get points.
World Wonders, you are trying to place tiles (Tetris shapes essentially) in a way that you can build wonders of the world on your city map.
Party games: Poetry for Neanderthals-- you have to describe something and make people guess only using one syllable words. Telestrations--like the game Telephone meets Pictionary

It’s basically a family friendly version of cards against humanity. We kind of have a rule in our extended family that we don’t play cards against humanity with different generations. Ticket to Ride and Codenames are relatively easy to learn. Codenames has a Disney version with pictures on one side and the name on the other. That might be fun for the kids. Monopoly Deal is a much faster version of Monopoly and easy to learn.

We love Quirkle…
Blokus is a good one for all ages and easy to learn.
Just played Uno Flip for the first time yesterday. My son and his friend had already been playing and knew how, so it was only me learning. It was weeeeeird. But halfway through the game, I got the hang of it, and it was a lot of fun!

Snorta is a fun one for all ages and I think up to 8 or maybe 10 can play. Super easy to learn.
Doodle Dice, again, all ages, several people can play and it is easy to learn.

UNO No Mercy is fun! Last year it was hard to find, but I snagged us a deck without buying from a reseller. We also just got a "Catchables" game of Exploding Kittens, which just cracks us up.
Oh! Battleship Shots is good, too, but you'll be chasing balls a lot.

Splendor was our most-played board game until we found Century and its sequels. (We played the “Century Golem Edition line - same game as just “Century” but with more colorful art and graphics.) Splendor is great, Century Golem and Century Golem Edition Eastern Mountains are even better!! And for dice games, Farkle is our stand-out go to for quick and fun. It’s really easy to learn and moves quick around even a big table of family!!

Ark Nova is really fun, but it's a long game (3 hours) no matter how many people are playing so it doesn't get played as often.

Just One is fun a party game for the whole family. Any age can play it and no special skills required.
The guesser blindly picks a word from a card. The rest of the players try to think of a unique one-word description that will help the guesser guess the word. If your one-word description matches any other players, the guesser does not get to see the matching words.
For example, if the word is Liar and two people put Trump, one person put fibber, another person puts dishonest, the guesser would have to figure out liar based on their clues of fibber and dishonest.
A ten-year-old would might have a completely different descriptive word than a 20 something so it really is a good game for any age to play together.

Zombie Dice is the game I always reach for when dealing with board game muggles. It teaches in about 30 seconds, works for groups of almost any size and age, is nigh indestructible and easy to carry. Honorable mentions to Liar's Dice, Sushi Go and Kingdomino.

We had a gaming day last month for a family birthday. It was great fun! These are our current favourites:
Ransom Notes - you have about 50-70 magnetic words (like fridge poetry) and use them to answer a writing prompt. Examples - describe the sleeping arrangements to your new cell mate, the best things about being single. For adults!
Colour Brain - questions are identifying colours - e.g. the colours of the Domino's logo, the Olympic rings, Super Mario's shoes, etc. Each team has the same number of colour cards, and submits the ones they think answers the question. Incredibly easy to learn, fun to play and suitable for all ages.
Shit Happens - this was really interesting and lead to lots of discussion. 200 different situations are graded in awfulness, and you have to decide where each card fits in to the situations you already have. Example - is watching a porn movie with your parents worse than or better than bed bugs, or having the wrong limb amputated? Very easy to learn, definitely for adults.
Soundlicious - opposing members have to guess what word you have on you card, based solely on you trying to replicate the sound it makes. Easy when it’s a cow, less easy when it’s a hand blender. Works for all ages.
Tension - each person/team has to name 10 items in a category, but it has to be the same 10 as are on the card read by the opponent. So Girls' Names beginning with S might have Sarah, and Sheila, but not Sylvia or Simone. There is a timer if you choose to use it. Highly frustrating, but great fun!

Do you have any of the expansions? We have Prosperity and maybe a sea or pirate one that are fun. I’ve been looking at Menagerie.

Ransom Notes…SO funny. Described above.
Ravine…more cooperative. Good for 4 or more. You are survivors of a plane crash and have to survive until rescued. You work together to build shelter, keep your fire lit, stay fed, etc.
Cover Your Assets…card game where you make pairs of items, try and protect them from being stolen and try and steal others items.
Bohnanza…another card game. You plant rows of beans. It sounds so lame and odd, but it’s SO MUCH FUN. I played it at a friends and came home and bought it right after. You do need 3+ to play.
In my cart are Cracklist and That Sound Game. I always buy a game for each of my immediate family members for Christmas I need two more…off to check some of your suggestions.

For a quick silly card game that incites a bit of chaos, Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza. We bring this out on holidays when family is together and we laugh our sides off.
We also like The Chameleon--another quick game where someone new is a mole each round.
And though it's certainly not new, our extended family also enjoys In a Pickle. For the creative it's fun to come up with odd pairings as you place cards, for those with a love for words, you get to twist various meanings of words to work on your behalf, and for the philosophers, you get to try to convince people that a memory is larger than love, or vice versa.

Has anyone played Outsmarted? I got this for the family to play over Christmas. It seems like a marriage of Trivial Pursuit and Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. I particularly liked that there is remote play so family members can be in their own home and still play with each other if it's not possible to get together.

SkyJo is a fun, quick game easy to learn for ages 5-100. A 5 yo may need help or help flip the cards over.
Monopoly Deal -card game that is fun once you get the hang of it. Either play with someone who already knows or watch a Video. Quicker version of the board game.
Mexican Train- a family favorite that 6 people can play at a time
Rummikub- another family favorite. Easy to learn and play.
Taco Cat Goat Cheese Pizza is fun and loud! It’s a silly game that’s easy to learn and play.
Spoons- classic card game where you have to get 4 matching numbers and grab a spoon w/o others noticing. Last one with no spoon loses.
