I always have SS that are relatively inexpensive. Example:even though a cell phone would be small enough, I would not include it in a stocking.

Our stockings typically wouldn’t have any one item more than $10. We love our stockings and jam a lot of stuff in there!
Each stocking would probably be in the $75 range.

I probably end up spending a lot more per stocking than I should - I buy all the kids "overflow" reusable shopping bags. But I wouldn't spend more than 15.00 per item (it's just that it's a lot of items I put in there...)

Stockings have always been my favorite. Santa only brings 5 gifts for the kids, but the stockings are bonkers. I have to write a list to keep track. :X We even upgraded everyone to have this 36" stocking.DH & I only fill each other's stockings. Not everything is expensive, I just don't limit things to $5 or candy, etc.

The stuff I put in my stockings is relatively inexpensive Socks, phone chargers, earrings, guitar picks, stickers, airplane size booze, hot sauce, candy, cable ties, hair clips, pens, nail clippers, etc. Nothing crazy expensive.

I fill 13 stockings now so I do try for lower cost items overall. It all adds up anyway with those numbers!
I do one “substantial” item in each but still under $50.
My downfall is the three grandbabies. I have little restraint when it comes to special items for them.

One son got AirPods in his stocking one year. So, no we did not have a price range. 😁 We have also put gift cards in their stockings.

No price limit. Stockings are usually for something my son and daughter-in-law didn’t put on their wish lists. I always include Reese’s trees and scratch offs. This year I am including those little table top vacuums. No idea what else will find the way in there.

No specific limit, but I don’t think I put anything over $20 in them. Watches, phones etc are under the tree gifts. But, I also don’t necessarily let size limit me. We have overflow Santa bags. I think I bought them on sale from Pottery Barn years ago www.potterybarnkids.com/products/santa-bags-new/?position=1

No, we usually put small things in the stockings ~ it's just DH, DS (38) and me, so no kiddies. So there might be a large gift card, jewelry, etc. We take the stockings into the living room where the tree is so they are opened with the other gifts.

Or do you do the whole Santa thing for everyone? Now that our kids are grown (but no grands) trying to figure out how I want to do this going forward.

I don't really add up the stocking stuffers, but expect it is in the $100-150 range total.

I generally try to keep it to more inexpensive items, but I have put $25 iTunes or other gift cards in them on occasion. If I have a “big” gift that’s small in size, I usually put it in a big box and try to disguise it in some way, either by putting a stack of heavy books in the bottom of the box, or including something noisy like a small Lego set or jigsaw puzzle or even an envelope with unpopped popcorn taped inside to throw off the receiver if they try to do the shake test, LOL.
I still end up spending way more than I expect to on stockings because all that little stuff adds up. I mean, twenty $5 things still equals a hundred bucks! 😳

A question - do you only do stockings for your adult kids & grands?? Or do you do the whole Santa thing for everyone? Now that our kids are grown (but no grands) trying to figure out how I want to do this going forward. We moved to drawing names amongst the adults several years ago and we really like it. We use the Elfster app. It allows me to block spouses from drawing one another and we have it set to not repeat gifters and giftees until we get through all the possible match-ups. We all still gift to the three children and they are the only ones who get presents from Santa. I do all the stockings myself as that's always been my favorite part. Right now the oldest grand is 4 so none of them really know where gifts or stockings are coming from. And as I have four boys, we have three daughters-in-law to consider so our "family Christmas" celebration is not on the actual day. I leave that for each family to decide to be with her side or to start traditions of their own at home which is what two are planning to do going forward.

I do smaller and cheaper things in stockings. I try to make sure everything I buy fits, it can overflow out the top but it's gotta basically fit. I also try to make sure the total stocking budget is $50. I'd rather save my budget to spend more on the bigger gifts

No. Stocking gifts are based on size. It normally happens that most uber $15, but not always.

Bags of different Goldfish are good fillers. Walmart still has the Madaloirian bags of Goldfish. ...
Stocking can have anything and everything in them. Of course they are from Santa but anyone walking by can drop things in.
I still send stuff to Florida for DGSs', 24 & 26, stockings. They used to be much better but my DDIL has learned well. Over the years they have gotten batteries, pens, pencils, small LEGO, and yes they used to get underwear as did their dad!
One Christmas the adults sat at the table and put all the small LEGO sets together. Five Below was a good source. And I picked things up all year long. This year they will get $2 bills and NJ 'golden' dollars( I forgot them last year's.).
Not stocking, but their Hess fire trucks were delivered Friday. I remember buying DS's first Hess truck. It cost $1.49, and debated about pay that much. Bought it because it came with the batteries.. sure wish we still had it, but he played with them all, including the tanker. 60 years...
Stockings, nail clippers, tooth brush, manicure set, razor or blades as needed. Tickets for things. Candy, sicks and much more..

I try not to spend more than $10 on a stocking item, but make an occasional $15 exception. We have a budget for each kid and DH gets irritated that I never include stocking costs in the budget. I get it, but we don't spoil the kids much.

I have occasionally put a "real" small gift in a stocking, and I will even wrap it if I do that, but mostly they are filled with small fun things.

My kids don't like a lot of stuff, so I put in their favorite treats and then Santa brings a good gift then as well. We open gifts Christmas Eve.

I only do my DDs not their significant others and not grand kids. My DDs do their partners and will do their kids. I’ll admit my SS can be expensive sometimes. I buy what they would like. My girls love it and I love doing it.

Stocking stuffers in our family are smaller inexpensive items. Socks, Life Saver Books, items from somewhere like 5 Below.

No budget. However most items are small and inexpensive. If there is an actual gift in the stocking it gets wrapped, other items are always as is.

Normally nothing is too expensive. If something expensive winds up in a stocking, I will wrap it.
Does anyone else hide a little gift in white paper with a yellow ribbon up in the tree from Santa Mouse?
I love Santa Mouse! When ds was little, Santa Mouse typically gave him a matchbox car. Now Santa Mouse gives a mini Lego set. I am positive that ds will do Santa Mouse gifts for his kids when the time comes.

99% of the time, the stocking gifts here are inexpensive. We do buy quite a few stocking gifts, though. I would say typically about 15 items per stocking.
I would say that they are all $10 and less, and most are $5.00 and less.
One year, I did put an MP3 player in DH's stocking. That was probably 15 years ago or more. It just happened that he had a few gifts that were inexpensive, but bulky, so his wrapped gifts under the tree didn't have a lot of value, so I felt fine sticking a more expensive gift in the stocking that one time. And it did work out as a great surprise, since he would never expect something worth more than $10 to be in there.

That said, it makes me a bit twitchy that the bag for the Jackson family is personalized with the name The Jackson 's. Aren't there like dozens of eyes on things like this before they make it to the photographer? <---- rhetorical of course

I don’t do stockings per se, but our DDs and teen granddaughter get a gift bag with girl stuff. The SILs nor grandsons really care. I do keep the costs under $50 this includes panties 🙈. Family joke and I will continue it.
