I keep number of presents the same. I also try to keep total amount spent on each as close as I can. This is close to what I do. I definitely keep the number of gifts the same, and I try to keep the total amount spent relatively close, but my main concern in the number of gifts.

I set a budget every year. I spend relatively the same per person. I don't stress over it as I don't buy one person a house and the other socks. lol In my world as long as I'm within $50ish of one another I'm good.
As for the DIL I'd just give her a gift card and be done. Apparently $$ is all she cares about so don't waste the time and energy putting thought into and stressing over her gifts.

We have always tried to do a one to one value. Doesn’t mean I actually spent that on the item. But we also try to stay within the same dollar amount total for each kid. Some years that doesn’t happen. And since they aren’t married, I don’t spend as much on their significant others.

MIL would try to make the number of gifts even. It was kind of annoying at times because she would give a lot of “filler” gifts like calendars she got from donating money to some charity or useless mail order things we didn’t want or need. She spent a LOT of money on literal junk just to keep things “fair.” We finally told her we really didn’t care about the number or even the cost as long as we were getting things we actually needed, wanted or could use. IMO the best gift is money. It’s always the right size and color, LOL.
