IIRC the attachments between the tilt head and bowl lift aren’t interchangeable. I have a 4.5 qt tilt head too and none of the attachments for that will work with the bowl lift. The 6 qt bowl lift from Costco is on sale right now for I think $299 and it comes with the paddle, whisk, flex edge beater, dough hook and pouring shield. I hate only having one bowl though, and hated how everything would come up out of the top of the 6 qt bowl when making a double batch of cookies so I was really pleased to learn the 7 and 8 qt bowls also fit that machine. The one thing I don’t like is that there is no stainless steel paddle for it even as an accessory option. I don’t like the painted ones at all, and it’s hard to determine if an aftermarket stainless one will fit. That's why I've hesitated on upgrading, I'd have to rebuy a lot to replace what I've accumulated over the years since they aren't interchangeable. But knowing that I could get different sized bowls to use on the bowl lift is a big plus. I made over a thousand Xmas cookies each year and at least 2 bowls is a must. Also how I killed my motor with too much thick cookie dough for doing 2-3 batches at a time. I was in the same boat. I had a 4.5 qt tilt head first that I bought an extra bowl and a flex edge paddle for, and then decided it just couldn’t handle the volume I typically did and I was tired of the mess from stuff getting kicked out of the bowl. The 6 qt bowl lift has a bigger motor and that was the deciding factor for me to upgrade. I bought a second bowl (well, technically I got it for Christmas one year) but didn’t get any of the other add ons for it because it came with all the attachments I normally use. I still have the smaller one too and I like it for smaller batches/quantity, making icing, etc. so I still use it for some things. If you are doing that much cookie dough in multiple batches, you might also consider getting a Bosch Universal. Word in my cookie groups is that it’s a beast and can do quad batches of dough, just don’t use the cookie paddles because they WILL break! They only use the dough hook start to finish for cookie dough. The Bosch typically goes on sale around Black Friday, regular price it’s about $450. The KitchenAid 6 qt is on sale now at Costco for $299.

I have an old tilt-head and the OG metal bowl it came with. When we renovated our kitchen, I briefly toyed with the idea of upgrading the mixer, but my contractor shared the adage that they don't build them like they used to and I decided to stick with what I got. But I did glow up slightly by buying a copper bowl which I love. My red mixer is 25 years old and is so so much sturdier/stronger than the magnolia green version I got from Target last year. Apples to oranges indeed.

Some very good pros and cons of each type of bowl were brought up. Thank you! Out of idle curiosity, I decided to weigh the glass mixing bowl that came with my 5 qt KA Mixer. It weighs 4 lb 9 oz. EMPTY! My goodness. I still have a lot of research to do before I purchase (hoping for a black Friday deal), but the weight of the bowl when empty was not something I had even thought about until now. Thanks for the replies and real kitchen use experiences. I'm not sure if there are lids that fit on the glass and ceramic bowls but I know that the lid that fits on the metal bowl doesn't fit on the glass bowl that I have. I have a lid with a spout shape that fits my glass bowl. The lid that fits the metal bowl is just a circle.
