Or a tech inclined one. Yesterday, my Facebook locked me out and apparently I've turned on 2 factor authentication in the past. I can't find the app I downloaded then or any codes and I cant get the correct codes from Facebook because I can't login. It allowed me to reset the password but then takes me to a screen that asks for a code. It's sending me a 6 digital code but saying it's incorrect over and over and the only other option tells me I can scan a qr code or enter a key...both of which I believe you have to be logged in to access. Anyone techy with any ideas? I've been going round and round, and im on the same screens after googling and trying everything I can find of. It's got me locked out of Facebook and insta and a few other apps. Any ideas before I just delete socials and call it a nice memory?  |

Is there any indication of where they are sending the code?
I never gave a phone number so codes are sent to my email.

I have two factor authentication and I can’t for the life of me find my notes on it but I know I had to nominate someone else to get details from FB if I couldn’t get in. Do you remember giving someone else’s contact details? Mine was someone who is on fb every day.

It's possible someone hacked your account and turned on the 2FA, putting in a different phone number for codes.
Can you have someone else view your profile from their account to see if it's doing anything weird?
My experience, unfortunately, was that when I was hacked and the hacker had changed over the identifying info on my account, I had no way to prove I was the account owner. You can't get ahold of anyone at Meta to ask. I was never able to recover that account and had to start a new one. Sorry.

Is there any indication of where they are sending the code? I never gave a phone number so codes are sent to my email. I have the option of phone or email and it's sending them to me but the codes say they are incorrect. |

My partner was my person but he looked earlier and said it wouldn't allow him and it was saying it was because i had set up the authentication |

I vaguely remember turning it on a long time ago but I cant find the app or saved codes anywhere. Im wondering if it didn't somehow transfer when I replaced my phone. You do not need to be logged into fb to use the qr code or passkey. A different code is sent every time you request one. There was nothing to save. Request a new code, TYPE it in the box and it should work. DO not attempt to copy/paste. That will get you a "wrong code" message. I think the spacing between numbers might be different in the copy/paste. Also there is a short time the code is valid, something like 5-10 minutes. So only request one when you can ignore the rest of life. |
