I will say my only criticism is that the lids do not fully meet the space between the cubes. None of mine do. So any slight movement can cause liquid to go to another cube. Not much but I have had the lid stick because liquid go on the wall and adhered to the lid.
So I move one, pop the lid off, wipe the top and place the lid back on.

Interesting! I wonder if MIL would like those. Lush that I am, I looked at them just now and saw fancy ice cube molds for cocktails.

I have some, haven’t used them much, only washed them 2 times once when I got them & once when it emptied. I had no issues with the contents in the freezer but I’ve only used them for broth so far.
My only issue with them is the length of the broth rectangle when frozen. I have them with 1cup slots but the length of the cube when frozen is way too long for a mug or my small soup bowls. I used them to prep a winter bone broth with added onion, garlic, ginger in it for when I’m under the weather. However since the cube doesn’t’t really fit nicely into anything but a pot I never feel like thawing the broth when I’m under the weather. Making a pot to wash then pouring it into a mug just seems too much when I’m coming down with something, I’m lazy. Even the 1/2 cup ones are the same darn length.
I have looked for one of those very wide soup mugs but haven’t found one that I like that is wide enough yet.
So there is my 1st world picky issue with them. 🤣🤣🤣

I have two each of the 2 cup, 1 cup, 1/2 cup and the little cubes. I love them! It's just DH and I and I cook a lot so it's nice to freeze things, pop them out and put into freezer bags (although I hadn't thought of using the Foodsaver until this thread) and then on lazy nights I have something to pull out for dinner. The quality is great. I think it's a great gift idea!
I keep seeing the ad on Facebook for the stoneware and I'm trying to ignore it.
I bought mine on Amazon. They are the souper cube brand.

jeremysgirl - I think its a very thoughtful gift. I would do this for my DD who recently moved out on her own and does not like to cook, but I think I'm already spending too much $$ on her. I will have to order some for myself though. I just need to remember to use them! Perhaps you could post and let us know when you fill yours, what you are filling them with. Maybe a bit of inspiration for us?

I recently got the 1 and 2 cup versions. I'm loving them. Making soup, stew, shepards pie and freezing lunch and supper sized portions. I can make a large pot of something and not have to eat it for 5 days. And now I have meals ready to go.

I have just gotten the 1 cup size in the last month. I knew soup season was coming up and I thought I might be making soups that DH didn't care for. I thought I would just freeze a couple of lunch portions and throw in freezer baggies. I like the idea that pantsonfire had of putting them into food saver bags. Thanks for starting this thread. I love getting ideas for something I already have!

I also admit to having bought some off brands at TM several years ago. Square, maybe 1/2 cup capacity and a couple of smaller ones. I did use those quite a bit until I just didn't. I would use them for chicken broth as stated above. Once frozen just popped then into a baggie. The smaller ones, I think were a couple of tablespoons sized, I would use when I opened a can of coconut milk. My homemade ranch called for a smaller amount than the can. Whatever was left, I would put that into the small cubes, freeze. This worked out really well for those times I just needed a small bit of coconut milk. They went through the dishwasher just fine. My only regret is that they do not have lids. I would have to make sure they went in flat or were on a small sheet pan to not shift and spill.

My idea to give them for Christmas filled? They tend to really like my cooking. I love the idea of gifting the cubes but hate the idea of gifting them full. IMHO, it takes the joy of unwrapping and have a fresh, new item to use away from the recipient. I do like the idea of gifting both the cubes and a freezer bag of labeled soups or cookie dough as an example of how they are used. That way the gift can go under the tree and the frozen things stay in the freezer until they head home with your MIL/SIL.

They are mega handy. We use them for homemade chicken broth. I think that would be a very clever gift w/the cookie dough.

If others share this point of view then maybe I will look for a different gift then. It just doesn't feel like gift enough to give the cubes empty in my mind.

I really like them. I freeze both ingredients and leftovers in them. Once they are frozen I often pop the blocks out and vacuum seal. But I’ve also left stuff in the cubes and haven’t had issues with freezer burn as long as your not leaving them in there forever

How about giving the cubes, wrapped, along with an IOU (also wrapped) that's good for several types of soup?

I don't think they would ever say, hey, how about you make me that soup now. They just wouldn't. I was going to make 2 types of soup, 2 types of chili, and 2 types of cookies. So they would get a huge assortment. Even if they did ask at some future point, I can't say I'd be up for making all of this on someone else's timeline. And the idea of making the soup, freezing the soup, and gifting plastic bag of soup plus empty containers just seems really weird. Let me think on this some more.

Not sure how the relationship between you all is right now but what about having a big batch going and having them over for dinner and sending them home with a Souper cube or two of left overs. Next time you feel like having them over, ask them to bring their Souper cubes.

It's really hit or miss whether I like what they give me, but they at least try to find something that is unique, creative and thoughtful. I can't just give them empty soup containers no matter how much use they might get out of them.

I gave my aunt and mil souper cubes, silicone bags and prep containers and a printed out booklet on batch cooking so they could make a bunch of meals for the freezer. The souped cubes are great- they fill, freeze, pop them out into individual freezer bags, ready to put it into a microwave safe bowl and heat.

What about putting together a jar of the dry ingrediants? I have seen mason jars of soups and brownie mixes and some other stuffs sold at craft fairs, and then pair them with your cubes? I love your idea, but I do think having a gift of the already made soup is a little ackward....

I also have a food saver that once my soup is frozen in one of those cubes I pop them out and then vacuum pack them with my food saver. This is probably a surefire way to prevent freezer burn too. And get more use out of each tray. I think it’s a great idea. My idea to give them for Christmas filled? They tend to really like my cooking. Yes…I’d fill them.

I just spent the last half hour looking at recipes and I don't think they would like them. Bouillion cubes and dry ingredients with no veggies, it just isn't the way any of us cook. I've got some other ideas to run by Jeremy when he gets home.

I have them. I used to make homemade chicken broth a lot and Souper Cubes were really helpful. I think it is a good gift if they make food ahead and freeze.
