This board has become way too slow. So I thought I'd throw a few things on here.
What do you really like about scrapping in the 2020s that is better than the old days?
I like that Creative Memories doesn't have a stranglehold on the industry. The judgement from "correct" scrappers was annoying.
I like all of the choices of mixed media. We used to ink our edges (man, I really liked that look- going to try it again on my next layout) but there wasn't the selection of sprays, glazes, butters, oxides, etc. that there are now. I love the mixed media look.
I like 49 & Market (well, I did until they went all weird AI this year). I miss a lot of the old companies but 49 & Market was a great addition.
What do you like about today's scrapping?

The main thing for me is that it still makes me happy and it's still a creative outlet that I love so much. ❤️
I miss all the excitement about scrapbooking on various boards, CHA, the magazines, QVC all-day events and the plethora of new products that were constantly coming out but overall I think it's the process of it that truly brings me joy.

Polymer stamps because you can see where to place them. Stamping platforms Dies that cut the matching stamps Die cutting machines—manual and electric We can now watch how to and inspiration videos online. Even though I miss LSSs I do enjoy shopping online.

I don't have to use a letter stencil and some weird UFO shaped cutter to cut out titles...
I love my Silhouette, and being able to resize anything to any size I want and don't have a bunch of consonants and no vowels after spelling out one title. I am actually trying to phase out my letter sticker supply.

I love this board! I am connected to wonderful people with a shared interest.

The diversity of size people are using to document. I know some sizes are becoming hard to find but I appreciate there being more options than just 12x12 now.

I like that I still do it! I also like that I can find almost anything relevant to what I'm scrapping, like I was looking for some specific embellishments and did a quick search on the interwebs and found some digital files that I could print and cut out.

It still brings me joy. I want to carve out time to craft. Working with my hands and creating and reliving things we did makes me happy.
Tech. A lot of great advancements especially with stamping (stamp platforms and die cuts for the stamped images as well as the markers).
Lines aren't overly cutesy.
More techniques and wide range of layouts now a days to fit what you are looking for as far as inspiration.

The internet. I mean we had the internet before but now it seems so easy to look up tools and inspiration or anything you need.

I don’t scrapbook anymore, I’m a stamper but I’d say the tool innovation. Out with fussy cutting and in with wafer thin dies to cut out stamped images is my #1.

I love the advent of digital scrapping. I love that the internet is full of inspiration, so that we don't have to spend hundreds of dollars a year on scrapping magazines - even though on the other thread I said that magazines is one of the things that I miss about scrapbooking's heyday!

Definitely the technology. Although I had the 1st silhouette run by some software that I don’t recall the name. Stamps with matching dies are also the bomb.

I love the friends I've made here and the opportunity to crop with those friends on Google Meets.
I love that while we all approach our hobby differently - 12x12, Pocket, cards, TN, planners, 8.5x11, mini-albums, 9x12, 6x9, paper, hybrid, digital, simple, artsy, mixed media etc...we all have our love of crafting in common and we can all appreciate the variety of creativity here.

As I've age, I appreciate having my finished scrapbooks, more than ever. The memories and the photographs that they hold, are priceless.
Especially if I am feeling like I've haven't done a lot throughout my life....a look through all of my scrapbooks reminder me otherwise.

I like that I have more disposable income to spend on scrapping now than I had 20 years ago.
I'm really glad for all the things that have made scrapping easier, like die cutting machines instead of cutting titles out with an exacto knife.
I love that I've found my style and really like the pages I make.

I used to feel like I was doing scrapbooking wrong (or at least differently) when I read magazines and visited stores because it seemed like everyone was making pages gushing about how amazing their families were and how much they loved their kids. That's not my style and not my culture (I grew up pretty reserved). I appreciate that I can find a lot more inspiration from people making pages about different kinds of families, maybe not so happy families, people who don't have kids, as well as people documenting random everyday things. PL was probably the thing that broke that open for me - I have tons of random everyday stories. I think I also found people who create in my style, or maybe my style developed towards something that wasn't so hard to find. I was not a fan of mainstream country-cutesie stuff that was what I mostly saw in my early days. Digital and hybrid scrapping and PL helped a lot with that too. Being able to find clean modern designs and snarky stuff Technology now is a huge boon. Digital photography for starters! Not having to manage piles and piles of printed photos. Being able to reprint on demand if a photo got messed up or change the crop or size so easily. What a luxury.

Yes to all of this! I love the variety of supplies, especially since I still have tons of stuff left over from the "olden days". I love that we can choose if we want to do quick and easy, or layered and artistic: it's all "okay" and all possible with the tools and supplies available.

I definitely feel like there is less pressure, there is no right or wrong way to scrapbook. I like that there is a lot of inspiration on you-tube. I like that there are a variety of stores to shop online. I like that there are small stores like color cast designs, shadnee on Etsy, scrappin happy studio etc that carry unique items.

And while I agree with Linda that I love the friends I've made through this hobby, I also feel the loss of people in my life who used to share the passion with me but have left it behind...I wish the vibe that can be found in our little niche could be found in my neighbourhood as well!

Not feeling like I have to scrap every photo and in chronological order. Not being “behind”.

It was hard for me to see what's "better", so this post helps with that a bit. Great question! I like all the videos for scrap room dreaming and organization online now, the availability of snarky and edgy scrapbook items, and the fact I finally dialed into my style with the help of Shimelle and Victoria Calvin.

This may sound crazy, but I like that I have a stash that I’ve built up over the years and can make or do almost anything I want without buying anything.
I’ve tried a few things I don’t like, so I got rid of that stuff. I kept what I enjoy and have lots of it. If I want to stamp, great! Foiling—got it! Travel journals—I’m set!
I’ve seen most trends come and go and come again so I’ve developed my style, and can try most of the trends when they come back around and re-inspire me.

Most who remember the "old days" likely find more disposable income & time to craft as the best aspects of papercrafting now. If only we still had all of the LSSs (especially Memories & Archivers locations) for the in-person supply shopping experience (i.e. perusing entire walls bursting with a rainbow of Bazzill cardstock, aisles filled with multiple racks of patterned papers, pegs full of embellishments & tools, etc.) & the plethora & diversity of companies, styles, & creativity in the industry from its heyday!

I love that I have money to spend on supplies without feeling guilty. I love that I have a whole dedicated room with my stash. I love that my daughter is old enough to appreciate her books and enjoy crafting with me. I think I’ve said on this board before that she had to do a school project and pulled out her baby book to see when she hit the milestones. She was flipping through it crying, saying “you really love me!” I’m so glad that shines through! I love the die cutting technology and the ability to create anything now. I don’t have to find just the right sticker, I can make my own. I miss having local scrap stores but o appreciate all the online retailers and the plethora of different colors and styles available. I still really enjoy the process of designing a page, layering a die cut, inking the edges, embossing, all of it. I find it relaxing and I love looking at pictures of the people And places I love

Like many of you, I appreciate that we still have this hobby (dedication) to enjoy. Although I truly miss the lss, we do have many online options that do a great job of stocking so many supplies. It's also easier to access inspiration for l/o-s on the internet on many different sites. And even though I miss the old 2Peas site/store, it's wonderful to have this board to stay connected to what's going on and to enjoy everyone's posts & comments. You all are awesome.

I like the technology that makes scrapbooking easier...quality at home photo printers, electronic die cut machines, phone apps for editing and wireless/Bluetooth connectivity. And in the vicinity of that - - online crops & classes
- youtube tutorials, process videos and collection reveals.

I echo a lot of what others have said. I have more disposable income now, which allows me to indulge in the hobby more. My stash has also grown to reflect this. I am lucky to still have an LSS and some great online options.
For me, personally, I tend to create more at home and on my own than I ever did in the past, where I scrapped mostly at crops. I enjoy having a bit more of a space at home to use and enjoy when I have a few minutes. It's a nice way to de-stress, and I feel like there is less pressure now in terms of how many photos are put on a layout, pockets vs. traditional layouts, size of layouts...everything goes, sometimes all in the same album!
