What will he be doing? I work with mechanical engineers! Not sure yet. The company is a Natural Gas company. His interest is bio med engineering. He is interning at a bio med company right now. They have no openings unfortunately.

Congrats! It’s a huge deal. I have a daughter graduating from college in May and I’m hoping she’ll have a job lined up around that time. It is such a relief. Good luck to her!

That’s awesome he got something before graduation. I hired 5 engineers last year and they said the job market has been rough. I wish him so much luck. I’m a mechanical engineer and it’s been a great career.

Fantastic! That certainly takes the worry off.
My nephew graduates with a civil engineering degree this spring. He interned at a civil engineering company last summer and they've hired him for next year. I'm thrilled. I'm also amazed at the starting salary of an engineer (I'm a teacher) - engineers are paid well.

Congratulations to your son. Thats really exciting and exceptionally well done.
My daughter has one more year to go in her double Chemical Engineering / Science degrees so she will finish in November next year. I hope she finds something quickly. I'm nervous that shes going to be the most qualified person at the restaurant she works at over the summer.

Congratulations!!!
We still have one that hasn’t flown the nest. He’s done school - Brewmaster - and is working at a brewery but not full time hours yet and not brewing. They know he can and likely when they need another he will be tapped. But for now he is their delivery driver.

My son is studying Mechincal Engineering too! Any idea what he will be doing? So exciting, congrats! That's awesome! What area is he wanting to focus on when he finishes? I'm an ME and it's been a great career for me. My son is a freshman at Auburn and just about done with his first semester... I know he declared a ME major, but not quite sure what his focus will be when he finishes since he just started!!!! I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you consider good ME paths are!

I know he declared a ME major, but not quite sure what his focus will be when he finishes since he just started!!!! I'd love to hear your thoughts on what you consider good ME paths are! I don't think there is any bad path for an ME. The things I considered while getting my degree were: Location: What types of companies were the most prevalent in my desired location. I knew I didn't want to move away and since I live in a small town, I'd be traveling to either north or south to bigger cities for work. North was very heavily department of defense, and south was more machine based (a very wide spectrum) Availability: Looking at indeed a lot while in school and I saw the trend of more job opportunities north of me, while south was hit or miss. Pay scale: This one for me was very obvious, north was where the money was at. It took me a bit to find my comfort zone of the type I really enjoyed doing. Interning was crucial for me and helped me find my sweet spot. I wish him all the best and hope he enjoys his career as much as I do mine. ETA: Alabama is where I live and work. I wanted to go to Auburn but ended up going to University of Alabama Huntsville (UAH).

Congratulations! You must be so proud of his hard work!
DS turned in his master's thesis Monday and will defend it on 12/17. I'm very proud of him and can't wait for him to start looking for a job. His GF finishes her clinical hours by the end of the year, so they're both onto the next stage in their lives.
