I had that big, long thread going about all the crap going on in my current job. The crap is still going on. But, I interviewed for a job Tuesday and I was given an offer contingent on criminal background check this morning. It is actually a step down. And I will take a pay cut. However, it is not too terribly huge of a pay cut and there is room for advancement here. Retirement/healthcare/vacation is all comparable. One day a week in office. I also very much liked the people I interviewed with. I think they will actually be a great team to work with. This is a newer organization, so there will be some autonomy in fleshing out my role which is quite exciting. But best of all, I'll be away from the garbage I'm currently dealing with. Even if this is simply a stepping stone, it is worth the peace of mind to get out of the place that is slowly killing my spirit.
So I'm just waiting on the background check paperwork to come through. There's nothing there of issue and it's standard in my line of work. Once I get the official offer, I will put in my two week notice. They'd like me to start January 6th.
Update: I sent an email to HR early yesterday morning about my vacation eligibility for my final week of employment. They said that is acceptable if it is approved by my manager. So I sent the letter of resignation to my manager and the director (my two bosses) yesterday morning stating my intent to leave and requesting vacation time for my final week of employment. And? crickets. No one said anything. I logged out yesterday wondering if they had even seen my email.
I logged in this morning and I had an email from late last night from my immediate supervisor with a very short message of good luck. OK. So I responded back to him that I had formally requested those vacation days in the system and once he either approved or denied them, I would send out a message to everyone letting them know what would be the final day they could reach me so I could wrap up my business. I have not heard anything back.

That is amazing news! I think you and I are in similar fields, so I am aware of the pressure of the job even in a healthy environment. So glad you are able to move on from all that mess and drama and start fresh!

Congratulations! This put a big smile on my face this morning, I can only imagine the relief you are feeling since you get to leave that toxic situation! I do wish it was not a step down, just for the icing on the cake. But I also absolutely believe a step down is worth your sanity and peace of mind.

At long last and not a minute too soon. I am positively thrilled for you !!! Smiling down to my toes.
And I'd love to be a fly on the wall when your idiot bosses and colleagues realize they will no longer have you to save their sorry butts.

I have so many friends there I am certain to hear of how things go once I've left. I just need to get that background check information. Makes me nervous. Don't know why. I have nothing there. But until I actually get a written offer to sign I feel like it's not official. I'm not saying a word until that time. I need all my ducks in a row. But I can't wait to actually tell them.

Woohoo! That is such great news to wake up to. I don't have anything to add that others haven't already said. We all know how much this can amp up stress levels and all the things that stress does to you mentally and physically. What a wonderful thing to know the other stressor is almost out of your life. I agree with a couple of others in that I would love to be a fly on the wall the moment after you turn in the resignation and leave the office, when reality hits a week, couple of weeks or month(s) down the road when all is discovered how much you were helping and doing.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year kind of news!

ooooooooooooooh I am so so happy for you!!!! I was just thinking of your big thread the other day but didn't want to bump it up bc the holidays are so emotional to begin with and I assumed you would have updated us if there were any changes!!!!
Background check should be smooth - just may take a little time if they are backlogged - but once you get that written offer, put your notice in and use up whatever leave you need to... and ENJOY your last holiday there!!!!

Congratulations, I am so happy for you! I am another who would love to be a fly on the wall - first when you tell them you're leaving (I expect begging from them, but I know you won't give in) and secondly, about a month after you leave, when it really sinks in to them what you did to keep them going.
