I did not realize that people use almond bark or candy wafers to make these. I have always used chocolate chips and melted them down but last night a lady was talking about using flavored almond bark. Which do you prefer? Is there a big enough difference to switch from chocolate chips to almond bark/wafers?

Ghirardelli makes wafers.
The benefit of wafers is that you dont have to temper the chocolate, if Im not mistaken. If you like using chocolate chips, go ahead!

We prefer the flavor of real chocolate to candy bark, so I use Guittard chips or wafers for anything that needs to be dipped.

I must say that I find TJs dark chocolate mini pretzels absolutely delicious. I've never dipped my own.
Do you use the thick pretzel rods?

Any thing is better than the bark. Bark seems so watered down. I would continue with the chips or as others mention the Ghirardelli melts.

I think bark is generally "chocolate flavored" so we always use the real stuff. We like Trader Joe's dark chocolate pound plus bars.

That was my initial thought as well -- though I think bark tastes like plastic. I just wasn't sure what most people used. I think I am going to use the Ghiradelli wafers this year.

I only use Callebaut callets. I feel like the wafer melts give me a chemical taste and leave a waxy mouthfeel and I don’t like that. I honestly don’t bother with tempering the chocolate… it’s only for us and we usually eat them within a few days, so if the white bloom develops I don’t care. Still tastes good. 😂

When I was growing up we always did the white almond bark for pretzels but I feel like the options were a lot more limited, especially in a smaller town. I don't think I've made them as an adult. My kids like the Hershey hugs melted into round pretzels, which gives the same general sweet/salty taste.

We use the wafers that come in a big block at the grocery store. We like to make the rods and we use an old crystal light container to pour the melted chocolate in. Makes it much easier to dip the rods in and then we add sprinkles. It’s a fun and easy, no bake dessert and everyone loves them!

I just made this....Tic Toc made me do it!
Oven on 170 Cookie Sheet (with sides) Parchment paper Pretzels....fill the cookie sheet with a single layer Large Hershey candy bars-3 dark chocolate, 3 white (or any combo of large candy bars). Lay them on top of the pretzels. It should take 6 bars. Put in the oven Wait for them to melt
Remove from oven Drag a toothpick from long end of sheet to the opposite end Sprinkle with sprinkles and mini M&M's Put in freezer
Take out once frozen and break it all up!

Real chocolate is going to taste better but needs to be tempered so it will set up right again after being melted. The wafers taste just okay (and some brands are better than others) but are easier to work with.
