I did a search & didn't see any threads on it, and I admit I was surprised. I loved the stage play & now that my best friend has seen it (we live 2ish hours apart) and she liked it - after not particularly enjoying the stage version - I am definitely psyched to see it.
What did you like or not like? Did you find the whole offstage stuff re: Ariana Grande & Ethan Slater interfered at all in watching some of it? Like did it take you out of the film at all?
I have gone down multiple rabbit holes in terms of Youtube videos related to it. On the one hand, I'm excited, as a wheelchair user, to find out that the actresses playing Nessarose (both as a child & as a young adult) are also disabled. I like that I've heard the adult actress, Marissa Bode, had input into how to portray disability and the movie is less ableist than the stage version.
On the other hand... I can't figure out how they're going to manage the key plot point of the shoes allowing Nessa to walk. It's Nessa gaining the ability to walk that results in Boq deciding to stand up for himself & leave her, which in turn leads to what she & Elphie do to his character.

There is a thread from when it first came out. We all loved it. I plan to see it again this weekend. Arianna Grande has always just been someone that I would hear on the radio. I was absolutely blown away by how good she was as Glinda. Nothing from the outside world was a distraction from the movie. I saw it on Broadway ten years ago and went in with high hopes. I LOVED it.

I’m one of the few who did not see the play. In fact, I knew absolutely nothing about the story line. Which is the way I prefer to watch things. Somehow I manage to usually avoid all spoilers on everything.
That said - I loved it. I am going to see it again when my dd is on her school break, teacher.

I loved it. I saw it twice. The first time I watched it I went with my nieces and mom who have all seen and loved the show. The next time I took my husband and 16 year old son who were both apprehensive. Neither of them like musicals, but I thought they would both enjoy it. They both said they liked it more than they thought they would. I really want to see it a 3rd time! Arianna Grande was so much better than I thought she would be. She was funny and not over the top. Cynthia Erivo was amazing too. I’ve seen the Broadway show 2 times, so I was super unsure when the movie was announced, but it was fantastic.
I’ve also wondered about Nessa walking. I’m sure they will use some type of CGI. I’ll be very curious to see how act 2 does because Wicked is notorious for having a great act 1 and just a so so act 2.

I'm sure I'm the odd woman out. I'm not into musicals at all, so from the start, I was not that interested, but the Target commercial really turned me off. Then there is the fact that I have a difficult time stomaching Ariana Grande. So with that, I really have no desire to see the movie.

Some movie versions of musicals are ok but plays and stage productions, no thanks. I hate how over-the-top they are. It's all I can do to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade. It makes me cringe. Unlike you, Ariana Grande is the main reason I'll even attempt to watch this. I like her voice. I did read the book but that was ages ago and I'm not sure I remember much about it. I remember it took forever to finish reading.

I am a stage/musical person and almost always don’t like the movie versions as much. I avoided as much about the movie as I could until i saw it last week because I wanted to be surprised. It was really good! I think it was done well… it had enough movie magic while preserving important choreography and connections between characters.
And I know so much has been made about it in press, but Ariana and Cynthia’s connection is so evident. I really can’t wait for part 2 and maybe that’s my only criticism, having to wait a whole year.
I will look forward to watching it again at home. The whole off set relationship thing didn’t really cross my mind at all. I feel like that’s their business!
I am glad it’s being received well…I like a Broadway success story!
Hope you enjoy it!

I didn’t particularly enjoy the stage show (Dh did) but I’ve heard nothing but good about the film and Dh is (surprisingly) keen to see it so we’re going soon.

I have seen the Broadway and touring versions of the show multiple times and LOVED the movie. I thought they were respectful to the show while adding things that were entertaining, and the performances were outstanding.

I wasn't a huge fan of the stage musical, but I LOVED the movie version. Actually can't remember the last time I enjoyed a movie that much.

I'm in the minority. I thought it was somewhat entertaining, but I didn't think it was as wonderful as many do. I found it to be VERY heavy on theatrics and very light on story. I don't expect to watch it again, even on TV and don't know whether I'll see Part 2. I went with a large group of women (at least 20 of us) and the one sitting next to me kept falling asleep and I was starting to nod off a few times.

I hated the book. I have never seen the stage production or listened to the soundtrack.
I loved the movie. Ariana Grande is great. She is funny! Cynthia Erivo is captivating. The sets are amazing. I was mesmerized. I am going to make my dh see it with me.

My kids and I saw it and while my two kids LOVED LOVED LOVED it.. I was on the just one LOVE. And it could be we went on Black Friday and exhausted.. and didn't go until 9pm that night. I had a hard time staying awake. It was a dumb move to do that... lol...
I normally can't stand Arianne G.. but she SLAYED it.. she was so funny and her singing was so good. Otherwise to hear her talk outside that movie drives me INSANE.. but she can sing and if you have seen her interpretations of other singers.. I don't think anyone can beat her.
I could have done with a little less singing and more on the storyline..
