We renovated to sell and painted our 90's oak cabinets a bright white ... don't remember the price - sorry! They looked amazing ... that would be my recommendation! Here they are:

I love the floor! I haven't had cabinets painted, so no help there. I'm with you and would prefer a cleaner cream paint. There's already a lot of texture and variation in the room with the backsplash, counters, and floor.

I'd price out new doors and drawer fronts as well. We've had mixed results with repainting cabinets and long term durability. I wasn't happy with the results after a couple years in a previous home so we went that route on this house. You can still paint the low touch areas, but the cabinets in particular around knobs just get a ton of use.

We've been in our house for 2.5 years. My husband thinks the glazing that's on our 2015 houses' kitchen cabinets (and one bathroom vanity) looks "antique." Since we have antiques, he likes the look and doesn't want to pay $$ have the cabinets re-painted. I, on the other hand, think the glazing was poorly done and, because of this, the cabinets always look dirty to me! My friend has glazing on her kitchen cabinets but it only highlights the deeper spaces on the cabinets-it's not smeared all over like mine. I like that look much better. If I had the cabinets re-painted, I'd want the same cream/off white color. Oh, and yes, my wood floors do look that busy in person! They are "acacia" wood and have grown on me since we moved in Fun fact: Acacia wood appears in the Bible in several instances, including the construction of the Tabernacle and the Ark of the Covenan. Opinions, please? If you've had kitchen cabinets re-painted by a professional, how much did you pay? How long did it take the painters? TIA. The cabinets are gorgeous. The backsplash and countertops are very dark and busy. They have paint out now that you can paint over granite and tile/glass backsplashes that supposedly are very effective. I think if you lightened those, you would like the cabinets more.

I love your kitchen!!!! I'm stuck with my 1974 kitchen cabinets. I've lived here 5.5 years now. Last summer (2023) I did get new flooring in the kitchen thanks to a dishwasher issue. My plan is for new countertops in the first part of next year, I will not pay for fancy ones as this is not my forever home. But newer than 1974 will be amazing!!!! I can't wait.

Check out the Facebook page called Paint it Beautiful. People will gives you tons of advice, including touching them up yourself. The paint is fantastic! People paint their own kitchen cabinets all the time
My kitchen is similar to yours and I love it but I see what you’re saying about the glaze.

I like the floor and the rooster. The cabinets are ok but the entire thing says RHNJ 2007-ish. To me the backsplash is a bigger concern than the color or finish of the cabinets.

If I was throwing $5K+ at that kitchen (which is what I suspect you’ll be, at least!) I’d put it toward the backsplash and/or countertops first.
I haven’t ever repainted existing cabinets because I’ve always heard they don’t last like a factory finish. So, if the cabinets were really my #1 priority, I’d do as Darcy recommended and go the new doors/drawer fronts route. Even if it’s the same amount of money, or more, the longevity would be worth it to me.
I also agree with Zee that this is more mid-2000s. 2015 was when the white/Nancy Meyers kitchen vibe started trending. (Not that that really matters, but if it makes it easier for you to justify replacing a 20-year-old backsplash versus 10. 😜)

I think my first thing to do would be to change the backsplash and see how you feel about that. I feel that the backsplash and counter top are clashing

I feel that the backsplash and counter top are clashing I agree, but I think I would replace the counters instead of the backsplash, I like the backsplash better than the granite. OP, We looked at having someone come in and paint/refinish our cabinets and it was $3-5K. I decided to refinish myself. I am not thrilled with the way they have held up tho, and I wonder if that is bc I didn't sand them first. The finish is totally fine tho - I didn't want it to look like I painted wood, if that makes sense? I boughht a self-leveling paint tho that was specifically for cabinets and supposedly you didn't have to sand. But some of the paint has chipped, and then I got really tired and actually didn't paint the backs of the cabinets, so now DH is thinking we should paint those. I am attaching pics of what my kitchen looked like vs how they are today. before after

We used the Rustoleum cabinet transformations paint on a set of really old dressers I had as a kid for my DD’s room after we moved in 2012. Now granted, my brother who is a professional painter sprayed them for us but it has held up remarkably well especially considering they’re in a kid’s room getting daily use for a dozen years. I still don’t see any chips or scratches on the finish.
If you’re going to be moving anyway in another year or so, this might be a very good option to update without breaking the bank.

I would not want stone in my kitchen, I think it would be impossible to keep clean with airborne grease from cooking oils which also attracts dust.

People who have the money to put stone in their kitchen don’t have to worry about the practicality of cleaning it. They have housekeepers, and/or the kitchen is mainly for show and not used heavily. It’s stunning, but that picture is definitely AI.

We repainted our oak cabinets about 11 years ago and I’ve been happy with them for the most part. We had them professionally done and I highly recommend that. There is more to painting cabinets than it looks like. The only issue with painted cabinets is that you must treat them with care not to chip or wear often used surfaces off, like around handles. I keep a paint pen in the kitchen to repair any nicks. No matter what I like them a million times better than the orangey oak they were before.

The whole kitchen says "what was trending in my town in 2015" to me. The granite is great-quality but all the brown business-yuck. While I get what you’re saying about just not liking some of the elements in your kitchen, as a side note this comment kind of jumped out at me. If you update now, ten years from now will you be saying your kitchen is too 2024?

Here’s the things that jumped out at me. On their own, nothing is too bad, but when you put them all together it just seems weird.
1: What are the three silver things on the left side? They aren’t in the right place for cooktop knobs, and salt&pepper shakers come in twos. Are they part of the stovetop, or decor? Can’t really tell. 2: Where are the baffles/filters for the vent hood? From this angle, we can see that there’s nothing in there. 3: The oven face is wonky. There is one handle, so a single door, but why is there a vertical line and two windows making it look like there are two ovens with doors? 4: Why is the cooktop offset from the oven, and not centered over it? Both of those have to be installed within the cabinet framework, so the cooktop can’t extend to the left into the next cabinet, while the oven doesn’t. 5: Why is there one round knob on the lower cabinets when the rest are cup pulls? Or, if that’s a cabinet door instead of a drawer (possible) so it has a different knob, then the cabinet in the left corner is wrong… if it’s a cabinet door it would also have a knob, and if it’s drawers it’s missing the cup pulls on the lower one. 6: How does the window on the right relate to the room? At the bottom it looks like it’s just background in another room, but at the top it looks like it’s connected to the ceiling. The window is not on the same plane as the back wall. If it’s at an angle, where does that walkway go… straight into the window? 7: The wood island/cabinet on the right has a cup pull (fine) but then also has two vertical pulls side by side that don’t match each other (weird).
