I live in an area where it’s pretty much required that we appreciate the genius of Bob Dylan. Not complaining - I am a better person because of it. My daughter and I went to the movie today. She went because she is a Timothee Chalamet fan and he was impressive. It was an interesting portrayal of an artist and the vision he had for himself. If you are even a little bit of a Dylan fan, I think you’d enjoy it.
Did anyone else see it?

Two thumbs up from us ~ DH, DS and me. 60's was my teen years so I grew up with his music ~ and Joan Baez' music.

Thanks for the reviews. I think I will try to get out to see it. I cannot remember the last time I went to a movie theater.

I'm looking forward to see it because I have never understood the appeal of Dylan and I'd like to see how he is portrayed.

Two thumbs up from us ~ DH, DS and me. 60's was my teen years so I grew up with his music ~ and Joan Baez' music. We plan on seeing it tomorrow.
In 1973 we saw Bob Dylan in concert and were/are huge fans. I don't care for his current music at all. I saw a photo and he has not aged well. One of the reasons we loved his concert then was--he sang the fan favorites and did not ramble on with talk between songs. He apparently knew the audience came for the music so that is what we got.

I went to see Bob Dylan in San Francisco in 1978, I was a freshman in high school. He talked and talked and talked and we ended up leaving, with nearly everyone else, before he even played one song. Terrible reviews from that concert.

After seeing the movie you will feel fortunate that you happened to see him when he felt like singing those songs.

I saw it on Christmas Day and really enjoyed it. It was interesting to learn his story and some of the history of folk music.

I saw him in the mid 80's. He was ok. All of his songs sounded the same.
Saw him this past spring. He was terrible. First (and I know this is controversial...) we had to put our phones in those locked bags before we went in. I presume he didn't want anyone to take videos to document how bad he was.
He sat at the piano the whole time. Didn't say anything to the audience. I see a lot of concerts and now since the performers are getting old, they are very sincere and appreciative--like "thank you for all your support over the past 50+ years, etc." Not one thing from Bob.
He stood up away from the piano at the end and mumbled a few words.
Oh, and the songs-I recognized three of them. Most were from his newish albums. These guys know that 90% of the audience wants to see the music they know, not the new stuff. Again, all his songs sounded the same-but that's Bob.
Digressing but I saw the Eagles the same weekend and they were great!
Oh, you asked about the movie, not sure, maybe when it comes out on Netflix.
And did you know that Bob has a Heaven's Door whiskey that is something like $500 per bottle!

Not at all a fan but I do like Timothee, he's quite talented. I would watch it at home if it was on.

buddysmom I saw Bob Dylan in October of 2023. My experience was much the same as yours however I loved every minute of it. The concert started at 8 on the nose and ended at 10 no encore. I was home by 11 pm. He sat at the piano and played and sang and I enjoyed the music very much. I did not have to listen to a bunch of talking or audience acting foolish. I didn't mind the phone being locked up because I was there to listen. And the music was very good. Small venue too. This was about as close to a perfect concert experience as I have ever had. I didn't think anything about that concert was bad.

The four of us went Christmas Day. DD27 hated it. DH, DS(26) and I thought it was OK, not great.
We thought the acting (especially Edward Norton as Pete Seeger) and singing (especially Monica Barbaro as Joan Baez) were great. It was the editing and pace that dropped it to just OK only for us.
My three take-aways are: I wonder how Joan Baez feels about this version of events, how horrible it is to die from Huntington's disease and I want to rewatch the Johnny Cash biopic, Walk the Line.

We saw the movie this afternoon and loved every minute of the movie --and loved the walk down memory lane. I graduated from HS in 1963, so his music is part of my college years and beyond.
I mentioned it in another post, but we saw him and The Band in person at a concert in either late 1973 or early 1974. DH and I were dating and saw him in a Fort Worth concert. DH remembers he paid $35 each for the tickets.
The movie gets 5 stars from me.
