I guess the ban is supposed to take effect at midnight, EST, so little over an hour.
If you use and love TikTok, have you found another "home" yet? Will you look for another site? I hear RedNote is trending, but that is also Chinese owned. Will there be a last minute reprieve?
I don't have an account, but I do enjoy seeing some of the videos.

I don’t have TikTok, but, I was just searching for a recipe and it linked to a TikTok video…when I tried to watch it, I got the message that it was banned and was not able to watch.

Yep it went down at 1030 EST. Now when I open the app it says it’s banned and my only option is to close the app. ☹️

I saw people flocking to RedNote/little red book but I won’t be going there. First it’s owned by China and I support the US navy and I have a clearance. We got an email warning us about downloading it on Friday. 2nd it’s more like China IG than TT and I’m sure it will be banned shortly too. I haven’t deleted my meta apps but I did delete Twitter a while ago and joined Blue Sky. There are several apps in development - Neptune is in Beta I think and Skylight is I think being supported by M Cuban. I’ll wait for those but I also kinda suspect TT will be back. |

This is such a propaganda campaign. And it will work. It will magically turn back on after the inauguration and all the users will then let Saint Trump get away with whatever he wants or does, out of gratitude.

All I’ve read is that he’ll have a prime seat at the inauguration.
I downloaded Red Note but it’s just too confusing for me. I deleted Facebook and Instagram when Zuck started kissing the ring and blathering about masculine energy. I guess I’ll just read on reddit & bluesky?

All hail the TT lord and savior Trump. He’s going to save us all by reactivating TT. I hate him so much. I hope that everyone who is against him being president walks away from TT. I don’t use it but will be sure to fully boycott it if he gets it reinstated.

People are losing it on local groups but are sure that FF will bring it back by Tuesday. They forget that he was the one that wanted to ban it until he met with the owner or whatever he is. Then he was all for it. Sort of like electric cars.
It’s ironic that his SCOTUS approved the ban.

I’m so glad I got all my saved videos downloaded to my laptop. I love the booktok community there and have found a bunch of really nice and genuine creators. I’m bummed for them.
I was all set to go on it last night and not realizing it was shut down. I honestly was bummed lol. Instagram reels isn’t the same and I’m not downloading rednote yet, until I know more about it.
And CapCut? I loved that editing app. I had a few videos I made and I’m sad I can’t get access to them.

Just as an FYI for those of you with content:
I'm Canadian and still have access. I can see all the messages between me and my friend in Mississippi (it's our love language to send them back and forth). I can also go to her page and my friend in Georgia's page, and see all of their content.
So your stuff is still there, just no access.

I lasted about a week on TikTok. Hated it. I want to choose to play videos and hear the sound, not have content I didn't choose blasted at me constantly. I can't see any content there that can't be created on another platform.

I never had a TikTok account and honestly just never had any interest in getting one - I feel bad that some people are losing their revenue but at the same time, we did manage to survive before it ever existed.

People don’t care about any potential security risks and he doesn’t anymore, either, now that he thinks it’s an advantage to him. People will pay no attention to the fact that Trump was the first to bring up wanting to ban tik tok. He will just be seen as the good guy and Biden bad (even though Congress passed the law). I’m sure the owner of tik tok is doing his best to kiss trumps ass and wants to be on his good side. |

I can't see any content there that can't be created on another platform. When I first tried it I hated it too, for the same reason. My daughter convinced me that if I spent some time searching for content and liking pages that were relevant then TikTok would start showing me stuff I liked. She was absolutely right, I ended up curating my For You page to all kinds of interesting things. The great thing about TikTok is that it is egalitarian- anyone who posts, it will show your video to 200 people and if it gets traction it will show it to more people. It was a great way to amplify voices of all kinds of people, not just influencers or whatever. Short form videos in this format and algorithm I have not seen on any other platform. It was also a place where Gen Z and Millennials went for a lot of political discussion and a big source of info for Palestine activism. |

And if the US government is so concerned about data privacy they can enact wide reaching data privacy laws that cover all companies. The idea that Meta and every other corporation isn’t selling our data right and left is laughable. I deleted FB after 20 years last week. Screw Zuckerberg.
