And I loved it! It was so much fun. I had no idea. And, we won (Kraken....so that in and of itself was a bit of a miracle). I went with a friend who, thanks to her Canadian husband, is a hockey fan. A couple of weeks ago the three of us watched a game together so they could fill me in on the rules of the game and that was key. I still had questions last night, but I was actually able to follow the game (and the puck, and man that thing is FAST). Are you a hockey fan? What's your team? How are they doing this year? BTW mikklynn , I have a whole new respect for what your Grandson is doing. He must be very talented (and focused)!

When I was in high school, I had a mad crush on Wayne Gretzky and followed hockey quite a bit. My dad played for years so it was a way we could bond.
I was so excited when there was an exhibition game in the Tacoma Dome and I got to see Gretzky play. I had a sign and he smiled when he saw it. I could have died right then and there.

I have never gone to a hockey game before - pro or otherwise - but my best friends daughter has started playing in a youth division. I guess she is pretty good and starting to get attention from people who know these things. I plan on going to see her play. She's the only girl on the team and loves playing.

I have never been but I actually do want to go- it just hasn’t been something we prioritized. An old coworker of mine has season tickets and she loves it. I’m actually wearing a kraken shirt right now I had picked up at Costco a couple years ago (thinking I’d go and have gear 😁).

I’m going to a Flames game this week. Although both of my kids played hockey all through their youth and teenage years, I don’t watch televised hockey unless it’s the playoffs. Bad Canadian! 😄
Both of my sons and my nephew are playing together in a rec league and I’ve gone to a couple of their games. It’s fun to watch!
The Kraken farm team (the Firebirds) plays in Coachella so DH and I will likely catch a game when we’re down there in March at the new Acrisure Arena.

Back when I worked, I was in construction. We used to be gifted sports tickets, a lot. Being the only girl, at first I wasn’t getting asked to go. I fixed that by offering to be the designated driver. I always got invited after that. Hockey games were my favorite!

I LOVE hockey. My whole life is planned around the Stars schedule. Unfortunately we live about 2 hours from Dallas so we usually only get to one game a year. Never miss them on TV though. We used to have a minor league team here and we had season tickets. When that folded, we got a junior hockey team and DH and I were a host family for two years. That was a blast!
I love the Kracken colors and jerseys.

Are you a hockey fan? What's your team? How are they doing this year? Yes, Canucks always and forever and I have no idea because we never get any coverage down here. Back when I worked, I was in construction. We used to be gifted sports tickets, a lot. DH is in construction and we were always being offered tickets. We ALWAYS accepted hockey and people knew he was a Canucks fan so we've seen plenty of Ducks/Canucks games. When that folded, we got a junior hockey team and DH and I were a host family for two years. That was a blast! That's cool. I grew up in a city with a junior team and neighbors hosted a couple players for many years. I'm so glad you enjoyed the game, MichyM. Both hockey and basketball are so fun to watch IME, because they are such fast moving, always in motion games. Football and baseball are so hit and miss. I remember going to a Padres game and DS asking when it was going to start. It was in the 3rd or 4th inning. The dude in front, with his stats book marking everything down, was NOT impressed by the question.

My husband and I have been season ticket holders for the local D1 college team for many years. I think it is our 35th season. We also had tickets for our kids when they lived with us. We have a lot of promising freshman on our team this year and it’s fun to see them score their first goals and come together. We had a shaky start and we’re finally finding our groove. A former player from the team we follow is one of the tv guys for the Kraken - JT Brown. He was a freshman when we won our first National championship. He was named MVP of that tournament. He was a fan favorite. Hockey is such a fun sport to watch but I have sat through so many games where I was a shaky, nervous wreck. Even when you have a nice lead things can fall apart quickly.
I’ve been to many high school hockey games too but I’ve never been to a professional game.

MichyM He is extremely devoted to hockey. You would not believe the schedule the high school players have. A typical week is: Sunday off Monday 6 am skate, then go to school, followed by dryland workout after school. Tuesday after school skate and dryland Wednesday 6 am skate, then go to school, followed by dryland workout after school. Thursday game day Friday after school skate and dryland Saturday game For kids at this level, they practice, workout, and play all year long.

I've been to a few Silvertips games in Everett, but that's about it. I wouldn't consider myself a fan. My son and his fiance do love the Kraken and try to get to games when they can.

I went to a college hockey game and didn’t like it because I couldn’t follow the puck. It was also really violent with fighting and hitting

Since you are from the same area, you know pro-hockey wasn't an option when I was growing up. And the Canucks were typically so bad. So DH and I never got into hockey. We were offered free Avalanche tickets, but didn't care about the team enough. However, we can watch all the Kraken games via ESPN+ so we have definitely gotten into watching them. DH got me the Kraken Winter Classic Lacer Hoody for a Christmas present. Last night was a good game! Anyway, we might go to the game when the Kraken visit CO in the future.

Despite living near a hockey town that had back to back Stanley Cups when I was a small child (Penguins), I really don't remember watching a ton of it growing up. After their Cup wins, they were not the best and there was always the rumor that they'd be relocated to Kansas City.
Fast-forward to meeting DH. He LOVES hockey. The majority of the scrapbook of ticketed events we've gone to together is Capitals games (which is sacrilegious to our fathers... if you know, you know). When the Winter Classic was in DC, we walked around the pre-game activities and watched the game at home (same day we got engaged).
Due to the pandemic, we haven't been to a game since 2019. We talked about going to last night's Pens/Caps game, but didn't wind up going. With our pending move, we are talking about taking a day trip in March for my birthday and going to a Cleveland Monsters game. We've been to 2 minor league games for anniversaries (Hershey Bears and Norfolk Admirals).
I love going to games. I've screamed myself hoarse and barely had a voice the next day at work (worth it).
Ovechkin is inching closer and closer to Wayne Gretzky's goal record and it's absolutely unreal.
(Heck, my profile pic on here is an old pic of us in front of DC's arena.)

I'm Canadian, so I'm not sure that being a hockey fan is optional ... I grew up spending my winters in rinks watching senior hockey games in whatever town we were living in. We'd occasionally go watch junior games when my cousins and family friends were playing close by (they played with the Prince Albert Raiders and the Swift Current Broncos--unfortunately during the year of the crash), and in high school, I put on many kms following our senior team and the bantam and midget teams that my classmates/friends played for, and Humboldt was the closest 'big' town, so were were there a lot, too. In university, there was the city's WHL team (and the World Juniors my first year at school--most exciting game I've ever been to--Canada vs USSR for gold!) and the university team and my boyfriend's (now dh) senior team and the odd middle of the night rec game to go watch ... often we went straight from the bar to those! Once we had kids, there were all those games (plus my daughter played ringette, so more games!), and our local WHL team's games where we had a box suite. Dh now has Oilers season tickets, and I go to some of those games with him, but not that many because I like to go to bed early, lol! Dh has lots of friends who played professionally in the NHL and in Europe, and now he has lots of friends who work in hockey and hockey-adjacent industries like broadcasting, and whose kids play at an elite level, so we're always at a game somewhere. Dh was on the committee when our city hosted the Memorial Cup a few years ago, and he was on the World Junior's committee when we tried to host during the pandemic and only got a few games into the schedule. We go to games in whatever city we happen to be in ... I think we're at least more than halfway through all the NHL arenas. It's always fun to check out a new rink! I prefer to watch minor hockey over professional, but the atmosphere at a big arena is always super fun! I'm not tied to any one team--I'll just cheer for the team where I know someone or the home team or the team with the best colours. I guess I'm a hockey fan, not a team fan! I'm not a fan of 'old time' hockey, though, so I support all the changes made in the last decade or so to make hockey culture more inclusive and less dangerous ... My cousin's dd plays college hockey in the US, which I think is awesome--and my goal is to get so some PWHL games when we're next in a city that has a team. Dh says that the Kraken arena/game night are the most exciting he's experienced at an NHL game, so you picked a great first foray into hockey spectatorship! Sorry ... what was your question again ... I tend to get on a hockey tangent

Edmonton here. We played hockey as kids, my dad coached so my brother and I both played. My brother worked as a referee for youth hockey. I have been an Oilers fan my whole life and have been lucky enough to go to a lot of Edmonton Oilers games. I work close to Rogers Place so game days, even when I am not going are still pretty exciting around here. Edmonton is a hockey city, seeing an NHL game in Edmonton is like nowhere else. That is great you liked it, the Kraken are a fun team to watch.

Washington Capitals. #1 in our division. I used to be a Pittsburgh Penguins fan and when i still lived in Pittsburgh I went to a few games. Switched my allegiance (sacrilege to some, lol) when we moved to the DC area, and cemented that allegiance when dd discovered she loved hockey and when a couple of Caps players moved into my neighborhood. However, I've never actually been to a Caps game. lol. Dd has though. She doesn't live here anymore but occasionally when she comes home she and some friends will go to a game. I watch on TV.

It’s on my bucket list.
Either Penguins or Capitals. The arenas are probably not much difference distance-wise.
I do have a Capitals hoodie. Bought it because it was soft inside. 🤣

Glad you enjoyed your first experience!
Life long Oilers fan! Grew up in Alberta (living in BC now though), just outside Edmonton in a family that was always majorly into sports, hockey, baseball, soccer etc so naturally a fan from a very young age. Played pond hockey growing up, dated a goalie during my high school years (that almost turned me off of hockey 😆) married my husband (from Regina but he moved to Edmonton in his 20s) who is luckily an avid Oilers Fan too. Went to the very first Heritage Classic in Edmonton and froze but got to see many great players such as Gretzky but really there’s nothing like watching Draisaitl and McDavid right now, reminds me of the 80s glory days.

Chicago Blackhawks!! To go to the United Center, the house that Michael Jordan built, was fun!
We were going when Kane and Toews were playing. We'd pop for tickets around Christmas time. Boy were those fun games to be at. The announcer was amazing.
I miss their games. We can't always get Chicago games where we are living now. I know it's not the same team. It would just be fun to follow.

How fun! I’ve been to a few Kraken games and a couple pro games in other cities, but grew up going to Thunderbirds games (minor league hockey?). I really like hockey and the atmosphere of being in the arena but I don’t watch it often on tv.

We love hockey!
Our hometown has continually had a minor league hockey team since 1952. Then we moved to the D/FW area and well…The Dallas Stars!
Now we’re back ‘home’ and we are a hockey family. We have a grandson playing 18U AAA Travel Hockey. This weekend he’s in Chicago and next weekend he’s traveling to Dallas. Over spring break, he”s one of 4 from his team that will participate in the NAPHL 2025 T1ER Top Prospects Tournament in Missouri, where there will be Junior league and college hockey scouts.

I'm Canadian, so I'm not sure that being a hockey fan is optional ... Lots of fans up here, for sure! I am an Oilers' fan, but before the NHL came to Edmonton I cheered for the Toronto Maple Leafs. How crazy is it that I remember when they last won the Stanley Cup? (Hint: it was when I was still in University) We didn't have a TV, but I was on a city bus when that series winning game ended. The driver had the game on the radio and we were all listening, cheering them on. When the Leafs won the cup, cars were honking all over Edmonton! I agree MichyM that a live game is way more fun than watching on TV. Lots goes on in the stands and on the ice other than the game itself. There are people who come out during commercial breaks and other breaks in the action to run little games, do quizzes, pit one section against another for some fun competition.
I couldn't afford to watch NHL games live every week, but it is lots of fun to watch my grandkids play. Like bunnyhug says, if you know a player or two it really makes the game exciting.

When I was young, my Dad got front row tickets right next to the ice once a year through his work. It was fantastic! One year, he caught a practice puck they were tossing out to the crowd. I still use it as a door-stop. 😃

We are not a sportzing family. But over the years we have been to a pro basketball game (Sac Kings), college football game (UCLA), pro baseball (Angels) and pro hockey (Ducks). Pro hockey is the only one we've gone to multiple times. I only need 1 game a season but I do enjoy them, much more than any of the others. We actively avoid going to baseball games. They are the absolute worst in our opinion. 🤪
